Quote from Jakg :STFU if you don't have a clue.

Please, tell me how an 8600GT (which isn't that good, btw), is better for playing back movies than an 8800?

Most 8800 have the old version of purevideo which is useless for AVC and VC-1 and not even spec compliant (no deblocking).

No time to read the whole thread right now, two questions:

Is offline driving possible or are the races that are organized every two hours the only way to get on the track?

Which sim does it feel closest to in terms of physics? Judging by the videos I'd say Driver's Republic?

Nice patch! Got me about 10-15 fps which is great for race starts. Although I have to admit that when I read the word "smoother" in the thread title I was hoping for inter-physicsframe interpolation to get rid of the judder inherant to trying to display 100 hz on a 60 hz screen.

vital as in "look at the _blinking_ red light you idiot"?

OK maybe not 100% team fault. But I think Canada is the only track on the calendar where the pitlane exit light is red during the race, due to the short time difference between the pitlane and the track. It's not something a driver would be looking out for during the race, which should be clear by the sheer amount of drivers that have missed the light in Canada (Montoya 2006, Fisichella/Massa 2007, Hamilton/Rosberg 2008).

I can only assume that McLaren and Williams didn't make this special situation clear to their drivers in any of the pre race briefings and/or forgot to remind them via radio. That's why they get the main part of the blame.

100% McLaren and Williams fault for not warning Hamilton/Rosberg. Wth do they have radio for if not to give the driver vital information?

Well if you consider a one ton car cornering so hard that its inside wheel is just about to lose contact to the ground them you have about 6 cm (500kg/8.3kg*mm^-1) of travel due to the ARB. Doesn't seem that stiff to me.

Anyone know where I can get goals or highlight clips in decent quality? And no I don't mean wmv, xvid, x264 crap, I want MPEG-2 streams.

How long do I have to wait to get ambient temperature tyres? I'd like to give it a test. Will be interesting to see how the warming up of the tyre compares to real life. As a reference in real life series like FRenault or F3 the fastest quali laps are often done on lap 5 or 6.

Why does it matter if GW is man made or not? Shouldn't we be just as worried if the earth was warming up due to farting dolphins or whatever?

He's staying. And judging by the responses of the ADAC and AAA this is already doing serious damage to the FIA.

I'm anxious to hear the reactions of the teams, especially BMW and Mercedes. As anyone living in Germany knows, there is no way they can afford to take this decision lightly as long as there is any suspicion of a Nazi element.

Wow, what makes them think people will pay that kind of money for playing a computer game? Unless they have their own über sim that will make real racing drivers come to get some cheap track time I can't see how they will survive. Does look like fun though, seems quick and responsive, like Force Dynamics. Glad they didn't get their technology from BRD.

BTW the track in the video is Zandvoort. Anyone recognize the game?

He's down to 2 seconds off race winning pace. I've never been a fan of his but that is darn impressive.

Have you tried higher than 30? I have yet to meet a person who can't see a very clear difference between 30 and 60.

And my intent was certainly not to offend or flame anyone, just to point out that some claims and ideas should be tested before random advice is given. For instance Ctrl-Alt-Del is all you need to get CPU usage, Fraps RAM usage and free RAM left.

Certainly there are faster and slower encoders. I'd guess fraps is about 20 times faster than x264. But 1/20th of a metric shitload is still a lot.

And video is actually recorded at 50/60 fields per second, not 25/30 frames per second. 25/30 only looks smooth when there is a lot of motion blur like in hollywood movies. But for video games and sports 25/30 fps certainly isn't smooth.

I dunno. I reckon there are probably more doctors that lack the maths talent for engineering than there are engineers that lack the capability to memorize lots of data.

There are some ridiculously easy engineering degrees out there though.

What is this thread? Try to sound techy by taking wild guesses?

To clear some things up:

No, fraps doesn't use a lot of RAM, only about 20 to 30 MB. 512 MB RAM shouldn't be a problem.

No, encoding high resolution video is not easy on the CPU, no matter what codec. At 1280 x 720 x 25 fps fraps uses about 50% of my 2.8 Ghz AMD X2.

Video Data rate is about 20 MB/s so any Hard Drive made in the last few years shouldn't have a problem, unless it's very fragmented.

And among all that "advice" you missed the one that really matters: dual core CPU.

Personally I record at half speed and then double the framerate in virtualdubmod and use the built in stretch filter to fix the audio as well. But if it's for youtube 25 fps is enough.

Wha! Nobody ever told me. Great for moving gear ratios between sets.

Great Patch! Just a few small suggestions that I believe wouldn't be too much work but would make the replay controls nicer and more polished:

-When clicking on the time line the current screen should just freeze instead of going black.

-The forward scrolling thingy while you are rewinding seems kind of unpleasant since it's going in the opposite direction of where you want to go. I think just waiting, without graphical representation of LFS starting from the beginning, would be better.

-Holding down shift and tapping "," three times should jump back 15 seconds instead of just 5.

-how about alt + <> for jumping back and forth by about 1 lap?

So has anyone got this wheel yet? I'm not interested in the G25 since the sequential shifter felt pretty poor when I tested it but this seems like the dfgt might be a worthy dfp replacement.

SRT says the new dials don't work. Any news on future drivers?

Why not ask them on their forum? They do look flat when you are close enough.
