First video just shows a total disregard for the other racers by stopping on the track and the second videos show's someone really lagging bad.

Trust me if you consider them to be cases of dirty racers you ain't seen nothing yet.

I am certain that copyright infringement law is the same for content in games as it is for music and i know that if i was too find music i created and copyrighted then first they are given a take down notice and have to be given a reasonable chance to remove the copyrighted material(or links too them) and this would be the responsibility of the dev's of LFS if the links had been posted here

If you had it so anyone posting or sharing their uploads had to accept the terms of service, and also in the terms state that anyone finding any of their copyrighted work they can submit a copyright infringement notice and it will removed if their claim is found to be correct.

You would then only be liable to any legal issues if you did not adhere and ignored the request to take down the copyrighted material
Racedepartment.com have the same for their site

"Intellectual Property and Copyright
If you believe your copyright-protected work was posted on RaceDepartment by one of our users without authorization, you may submit a copyright infringement notification. These requests should only be submitted by the copyright owner or an agent authorized to act on the owner’s behalf. The fastest and easiest way to notify RaceDepartment of alleged copyright infringement is to either use the “report” button, located under each forum post or resource file, or contact us directly via email.
Posts, attachments, uploads or links which contain original game files are not allowed."

Quote from Scawen :I was hoping to see something concrete and reliable, such as a page on a government website (hopefully UK) or something else carrying some authority. Something that really nails down the situation without needing to hire any lawyers (which we are absolutely not going to do at any time in the near future - I've got far too much work to do and don't have cash to burn - this attempt to open a special section was really just a quick idea that turned out more complicated than expected).

Thanks for the screenshot of the attorney's comments, but it is written with some errors and seemingly open to interpretation (I can't even understand the second sentence). It doesn't really constitute sound legal advice.

Thanks, quite a lot of info there.

Totally understand regarding something more clear but the second sentence for me seems clear but is more directed towards it being the game developer who will be using/making the models to be imported, in other words you could not import lets say a ford escort car model and call your game ford racing or make it look like ford are officially affiliated with the game.

Another way to look at the situation is that people are and have been importing car models into LFS for quite some time even though it was not officially supported, the models are all representatives of real cars so what currently would have stopped you already being liable for any issues. If you only create an importer for LFS and do not advertise/supply the car models here then the blame will be with those sharing the models, you could only be held accountable if your importer broke some law which it would not do

Quote from Scawen :Thanks for the discussion. If it was only about VOB mods now I'd just drop it. But this is also relevant to how user-created content may be supported in the future.

What is and isn't clear (to me) at this point:

- The copyright infringement issue seems quite clear. I'm sure that it is not OK to copy and publish someone else's mesh without permission.

- Also clear: It would obviously be fine for users to create fictional cars.

- Also clear: Developers cannot create clearly identifiable representations of real cars and sell them. Permission is required from the owner of the intellectual property (the design of the car).

- What is not clear to me is the law that applies when user-created content representing real cars is shared without charge and how this can affect the provider of the sharing platform (us).

If it's user created and shared without charge and both the model creator and game developer's do not try to endorse or affiliate both model or game to the real life manufacturer (ford, citreon ect) then according the attorney's comment in the screenshot i posted you wont be held liable.

Maybe requiring that Mods which are shared have a Creative Commons license attached, also allowing mods to be used but not formally supporting them or sharing them on lfsforum should protect you legally as developers of LFS

Quote from Drifteris :For me it's about the same, maybe slightly less stutters but fps still drops when more cars on screen.

Are you using the beta version of SteamVR, had a few people mention it being a problem, whenever i have used steamVR on other games it constantly ends up stuttering and if i do not close in task manager it can cause stutters while not gaming(browsing ect)

Quote from manran :Totally agree, i love LFS even the interface is unique and straightforward. Few developers is no longer an argument. You deliver or not, there are many sims in 2020, many choice available, they are all good. And if you say "we do what we want" so good luck. I see so many ironic statement all around the web about LFS "will never ship anything new". In my opinion the studio should work in some way to get more money and hire more team member. It's a vicious circle. No update means no interest from players means no money.LFS need to make a step forward to show that it's still in da game. Many time myself and many friend wanted to upgrade the game but there is an "abandonware" feeling in the air. It's hard to define where we are with this game. I know that the sim is still updated but too slow in my opinion. We see the update progress news so frequently but no release at all.

This game should have a beta program to allow players to try the new updates like dx11. With or without steam it's not an issue. Thus workshop items would be very useful...Many studio have released half baked game versions nowadays but it's not an issue for the user as long as the game has something in its core. It's better to deliver something incomplete vs being perfectionist and release nothing or take too long.

Needs to be remembered that whom are new to LFS and are potential license buyers are happy with current product as it's all new to them. Obviously people will be even more happier once the updates are released and while for us that use VR we can say that LFS had some major updates which started to bring LFS forward, everyone might not use VR but it certainly has brought more people to liveforspeed and for those that had already been here for a while it brought more joy to racing here.

Quote from Scawen :Hi Vulgar, thank you for your long and well written post which I enjoyed reading.

I was happy to see your support for our work and was interested in the other things you said.

I read it when you first wrote it and came back for another read today. Smile

I agree with most things you said but would like to correct this point.

In fact we do need income but less than a lot of people do. As we want to eat good quality food, keep the kids in clothes as they grow and keep our houses running and it's almost 'necessary' to keep a car on the road (though less so these days, with food delivery services). In recent years LFS income has indeed been a bit too low but the great thing is that people do keep discovering it, so there is always income. It would eventually reduce too much but I'm sure the new update will get it up a bit for a few more years.

Still, without debts to service and if you don't need to go on expensive holidays or keep buying the latest telephone then it's possible to have a very good life even while earning less than most people would expect. Though I am fully aware that my family and I are very lucky, living in a rural part of England, we can go on walks and bike rides on wooded trails and field edges so we don't need to spend a lot of money for entertainment. Though that's not really pure luck - we chose to move away from London 12 years ago because this job allowed it and we knew we would have more space, less pollution and so on.

Through my life I've never cared about wearing clothes with a fashionable name or having a big watch or owning the latest gadgets in order to impress other people. Actually I would find that kind of thing embarrassing. I've always wanted to pay off any debts as soon as possible and only buy what I can afford. So I've not ended up enslaved by the system, having to earn loads of money to be sucked out of my bank account all the time. When I worked as a motorbike courier in London, I was happy any time to work less and earn less. I've always thought that time and peace are more important than money.

I hope that might be interesting, I suppose our way of running our lives is also related to how we have kept LFS going even if it is a slow burn.

Off topic but seemingly somehow related: I hope that when world economies get going again after the social distancing, we may rebuild and run our countries in a slower and less polluting way. What is really the point of traffic jams, crowded trains and long journeys to work in polluted cities?

Same principles i live by and very respectable.

I would like to wish everyone well and hope you stay safe

Yeah it is usually the case when revisiting a forum you visit often but new users/members are usually information seeking and are more likely to see it and take a look if they visited to learn more about LFS or are looking for something else in particular

Thank you for taking the time to reply and all the best, hope all is and stay's well for you and the family/friends

Quote from racer1012 :You can benefit from gearing in electrics. Way less than in normal engines though.

Having gears on electric cars would be of no benefit, they just do not need them to run efficiently, and it would only add weight which would then have a negative effect for no improvement in the running of said engines

Quote from Tazka :I tried blackwood in AC and i thought it was rather well done, maybe it was different version? What bothers me most in those videos is that there's basicly no visible chassis flex in corners. Also in AC all the cars feel some what the same. And some cars have characteristics they don't have IRL, like snap oversteer, and fishtail like an extralong truck. On the other hand it's better than LFS in the part that the break from traction to slide is not gradual, it snaps off kinda like IRL. But putting it all together LFS feels more realistic and has more logical physics imo.

The version i had tried was back in 2014, just noticed that improved versions had been released so going to check them out, thanks for making me aware Smile

In regards to the video of fern bay, if you check all the guy's videos he is asked when mods are going to be released and he never has given any date or link to any downloads which is odd in itself.

track looks no different on either video compared to LFS apart from ENB or custom shader, if theirs no download links anywhere for it then it most likely is just LFS with someones custom Shaders/enb and smoke mod

I remember the poor job someone had done of blackwood. it just did not adapt well to A.C
