try it with your firewall disabled to see if its due to the firewall blocking any incoming connections and if so then within your firewall settings set a rule to allow, as other have also said if this did not fix the problem then it could very well be your router settings (built in firewall/port forwarding ect)

It could certainly cause some glare when close to a strong light source, but that would be easy to spot as glare, as for the sky anything that would be caused by light reflecting from the lens or windscreen would affect the image as a whole

Quote from 5tag :Quick feedback on night time lighting:

Head lights as well as tail lights appear way too bright. This might also be due to excessive bloom and the fact that all those lamps emit light omni-directionally (which in reality is of course not the case, especially not for head lights!).

Another issue is light temperature. Since LFS' cars generally belong to the late 80s to early 2000s, pretty much all of them would use traditional light bulbs. The only car I would imagine having xenon headlights is the FZ 50 (and of course the VW Scirocco, once the time comes).

Finally, the night sky over a city is usually not that dark, since clouds get illuminated by the vast amount of street lamps and other light sources. Of course the odd atmosphere is also because none of the buildings/windows are lit.

Edit: I'm not overthinking this. It's a visual update and I'm commenting on the visuals. Also Scawen is the one striving for realism in every detail so I was hoping to provide another perspective. And yes of course you can, theoretically, retrofit a dozen bone-stock 90s hatchbacks with LED rear lights, but that's not the point. Scawen and Eric can take my opinion to think about what they want to achieve, or they can leave it. But I don't want to discuss this with other users any further as it needlessly clogs up the thread.

mostly good points, unsure about the night sky one though, but obviously many variables can alter how it would look

Not sure if i understood correctly so sorry if not, but you can have multiple LFS installed each with a different account loaded for each one, or do you mean just profile switching on the same instance

someones phone as a virtual mouse and keyboard via wireless (wifi or bluetooth. Is pc running really slow such as mouse cursor lagging. Unless it was a friend or someone close to you i would say that even though its possible to be controlling your computer while not connected to the internet(scripts VB ect) i would steer towards hardware issues

You could do with checking what is set to run at startup

Press the Windows key + R type Regedit then press enter then as carefully check the following with only removing anything in the following folders

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]

If using windows 64 bit you will also need check in the syswow64 folder

Or download CCleaner from pinform and use the tool for disabling startup programs via the software

Quote from Scawen :Jeremy Clarkson is one of these right-wing nutcases that just thinks we should burn whatever we can and have a jolly good time and **** the consequences. He writes in the same newspaper that Boris Johnson used to write in, a terrible paper called the "Telegraph" or "Torygraph" which indoctrinates its readers to hate the environment, cyclists and wind turbines.

I used to find Top Gear amusing but gradually got more annoyed with the stupidity of it that seemed to be increasing until it got taken off air after Clarkson punched a producer because he couldn't get a steak.

A lot of British people have a similar kind of attitude. You can tell by the popularity of SUV type cars and so on, designed to look big and tough. They are quite sad people really and are obstacles to progress.

Stereotyping people is not very fair, and unless you had actually met a huge percentage of the population any opinion could only be based on the circle of people you get to meet or hear about. Also which cars are popular changes for each age group and location

Regarding kyoto photo

Looks great and i look forward to getting to see this in VR

Quote from Scawen :In the interests of explaining how development goes...

Warning, totally technical and not interesting for most people!

Most of the day was on restructuring the generated sky system a bit and removing some old code that is no longer needed so that yesterday's test has now become proper code to stay instead of being rapidly hacked in for test purposes. Although generating the sky on the GPU instead of the CPU, which is much faster, there was still a quite perceptible glitch long enough to cause a click in the sound each time a new sky was generated - that can be about once every 20 seconds around sunset / sunrise. The click was in my debug version of LFS and might not have happened in the release build but it's best to make it glitch free in the debug version, then it's sure to be OK in the release build, and also won't annoy me all the time while developing. Smile

The glitch turned out to be because I started a new thread to generate the sky each time. A 'CPU sky' still needs to be generated for reasons related to lighting (in addition to the GPU sky) but now the CPU sky can be much smaller in size because it is not for direct display. Still, it's good to use a separate thread to do it to make use of our multiple core CPUs. The solution to the glitch was to have a sky generation thread running the whole time, just waiting for the command from the weather system to generate a new sky texture when required. It turns out that starting and stopping threads is quite expensive in debug builds.

While testing the updated sky I was driving around South City at sunset and started looking into the remaining white pixels, now that the worst offenders were cured by bounding the fog exponential. I applied the _centroid interpolation modifier to various inputs to the pixel shader until I located the one that was causing the white pixels. It turned out to be the ambient lighting data from artificial lights. Now I can drive around South City or visit those camera locations at Blackwood without seeing any bright pixels at all.

So, a good day's work, though not the sort of thing that sounds very exciting to most people.

More exciting than you can believe Big grin It is moving along nicely. looks great

Quote from k_badam :As much as I love LFS, the only thing that is wrong about this is that I don't think we need anything to hold us for an extra couple months. We've stayed here with virtually stagnant development for many years, don't think anyone who is still here will be leaving that soon... Which is a shame because I think people not playing anymore is the kick in the backside that Scavier really need to get some updates going.

I mostly agree with your statement apart from really being stagnant, Its probably that the work that has been done does not apply for your use of LFS, For us that use VR plenty has been done and scawen has shown what they are working on

Back on topic. Really looking forward when its released, would love to see how it is in VR

Quote from Bose321 :The big difference with a lot of sims is that their content is community-made. So that's something that keeps things interesting. People still play rFactor because there are loads of good tracks/cars, even though the last update was a few years ago. I think the same will go for AC for example when it will age and no longer receive official updates.

So they keep interest by allowing community made content while LFS is here nearly 20 years later without having done that, i very much doubt AC will age as well

but LFS servers today is governed by people who always have some issue either user vs admins or vice versa. being server owner is more or less also misusing peoples identity and ip tracing has been seen often in

I agreed with most of what you said but would like some explanation on this one, i part own-run MRc servers and what you claim here has never been the case at all for the 9+ years i have been at MRc(we may keep hold of someones ip that has been banned to attempt to trace any new accounts they make but only a trusted limad 5 (supads) ever get to see the logs containing such info , I agree about cargame servers, i also at first used to like going to cargame's servers, the setup of the server gave a different experience which i enjoyed. Many racers that i met there still race but are usually seen at any decent event races being held

@Racer X NZ LFS has always had its own development speed , most projects may have many patch releases early on then they start to lessen over time. Tell me what other game/simulator gets updated often after more than 16 years.
I feel for you in regards of racing from your side of the world, it must be frustrating as hell

while they give the choice of location based chats and add people nearby ect, there either will be already or will end up being some way found to exploit it

EDIT: He either used to run some type of league on LFS going back to 2013 or is someone that put a lot of effort into his con

The following are real racer names that were active back in 2013 and not played since 2016-17, and the attached image was posted back in 2013(apparently)

Quote from cargame.nl :And? A forum is a discussion platform. An opinion is not less or more valuable based on the amount of laps, years or skin color.

I agree that everyone's opinion is equal, but never confuse someones opinion with the truth or facts about anything. If someone expects to be instantly good at something but they find the opposite then its common place to lay blame on the game itself rather than see it as they themselves that are the problem and not the game itself(dunning kruger effect) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect)

I am not trying to put someone down or offend anyone in regards of stating if they have only having driven so little in a few years, but i will state that if someone has no interest in the first place or misplace the blame on the game it then means they not giving LFS a real chance and will speak ill regardless which does matter

Heres an example the first time i played chess was at the age of 5 years old and i have played it a few times in the following 33 years, so in the same context as the post i am on about if i say i have been a chess player for 33 years while in a debate about chess, would it not give the false impression i am a very experienced player with 33 years experience and wrongly add weight to my opinion yet in reality i would not have that much experience having only played a few times

(@scawen sorry for derailing the thread even more by replying to off-topic post)

The thing that everyone does not remember when talking about these other sims is do you think they will still be around and have the servers populated when they are the same age as LFS currently is, Most users who complain about new tracks and cars are a lot of the time the same racers who have driven under 1000 laps in over 10 years and will complain no matter what is or is not released

Quote from David 96 :Don't bother arguing, you'll get the same answer over and over: "Lfs is the bestest evarest".
I moved to rFactor 2 and having so much fun. Fun that LFS was never able to give me. I've played LFS since I was 13, and it's sad to quit playing it. But at the same time, I've found better alternatives.

To be fair you have not ever given LFS a chance, i think you wanted a game or simulator that you could be good at which in reality is not always a realistic scenario and takes the realism away from it

Put in some serious practice in LFS and you will be good which would make you more satisfied with the product

While i agree that the other sims are more superior in graphics and content, i can say with all honesty that assetto corsa's physics is crap compared to any other sim, project cars (both) is graphically better than a.c and LFS and i-racing. LFS is more user friendly in terms of being able to get online and asking people for setups to try vs a.c's messing around of having to either download a .ini setup file or copying from someone that is willing to tell you online each individual setting

Quote from RC-Maus :Honestly
I played AC but since minorating stopped their work I don't like the game at all anymore.

2e rFactor 2 I have it and think it's only fun when u do leagues I never enjoyed it

last iRacing I will never rent a game and I believe many are like minded.

btw also tried automobilista but all these sims never gave me the fun I had in LFS.

I think the big plusses for LFS are.
good spectating mode easy chat good insims.
ad better graphics + updated interiors and maybe tyre physics and maybe LFS on top again.

And another problem is many guys never heard about lfs and just check steam for games.

agree with each statement in your post and it pretty much sums everything for me too

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0TlRkNWheQ

You're right, LFS temp simulation is inaccurate. Videos like this are rare and valuable resources for small development teams.

Am i wrong in assuming that to be able to compare the video to the LFS temp simulation you would have to replicate it using the same setup of the tyre, such as camber and tyre inflation as both should alter which part of the tire heats up and how fast it heats up

Great video to watch btw along with the other ones posted on their channel
