Quote from blackbird04217 :I wasn't saying they didn't have relays or indicators. Just stating I am not sure the GTR class should since it is a purpose built race car, not a daily driver/track car combo. That said I understand the relay (which is required for the indicator) is what makes the sound we are all familiar with. But I just stated that with the GTR class it is a toss up whether they should even have indicators (lights included) in the first place. It is kinda like the single seaters don't have headlights or indicators - because they are purpose built race cars.

Yes, the relay made the sound that we are all accustomed now, so much that on new cars - where you wouldn't hear a thing from the relays - the tick is reproduced by loudspeakers to give the driver feedback... Endurance racing cars (and GTRs fall into that category) often retain their indicators as a means to communicate to lapping cars, but even if the relay would make a sound it would be completely overlayed by engine and gearbox noise so you couldn't hear it anyway...

It's a bit of a far cry going from server relocation to progress on the new patch - they're completely different, there is now common ground whatsoever... But whatever works for you, fine by me...

The Lotus looks good on first sight, but then you realize it looks very much like a Lotus F1 from the 90ies - I wonder if it's aerodynamically as sound as their competitors'..

Quote from Wilko868 :I personally think the oval side is more fun than the road side to be honest (and I'm English!). The Legends are great fun if you're up to speed, I love it. Only problem is I'm struggling to get my SR up without getting punted off, and it's SO expensive for tracks and cars. But I shall try my hardest!

The Legends is pure fun - full stop. Sadly I missed the Legends Road Series, but the 24h du fun at the Glen was epic...

WOW, that was close... Would be interesting to find out exactly why the car stopped right on top of the tracks - awfully suspicious location to break down...

Quote from Memph1s :the black stripes are while the car stands and the red ones while driving.

What? Toe doesn't change with speed, unless you have aerodynamic devices acting on the suspension...

Toe in is often used to make a particular end of a car more compliant over bumps and undulations... As the tyres are pointed inwards, they provide a stabilizing force when the tyres regain traction...

You can also use toe to alter the handling of a car (should be the last resort though) as you can make one end deliberatly more or less unstable... In addition, adding toe out to the front is a cheap alternative to ackerman geometry if that isn't available...

But be aware that by angling the tyres inwards/outwards, you will increase friction (thus hurting your top speed) and tyre wear on every straight so you wouldn't want any more toe than absolutely necessary...

Quote from Intrepid :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3n4ga35fSg Part 3 Shows Glock's wing proper deform/snap before it fell off

It looks like he's dragging the wing on the floor through the corner and then over the rumble strip, which caused it to disintegrate...

Quote from Mysho :Great film from school surroundings, a teacher who learns about fascism etc. with let's say a little bit too formal relationship to his students, creating his own 'extremist' group called The Wave.

Slight correction in your quote...

It's based on the short story by Todd Strasser which itself is based on the experiment the high school teacher Ron Jones conducted in the 60ies (which didn't end in murder though)... I believe Mr. Jones is even featured in the extras...

How can he take Jamie Foxx from Oscar winner to a bit of crap on the end of a shoe, but he found a way? Another 1980's memory ruined....You Bar-steward

I partly agree with you - crap film, but freaking epic sound!

Well, done with it, in just under 40 hours...

Loved the story, all the characters were so well thought out and presented you just couldn't help but care for them (only Zaeed was a bit alienating with his over-the-top machismo) and the cliffhanger at the end will make the wait for the third episode really painful - I just hope I made the right choices... The quick time events were implemented very well, I'd never thought it would improve the dialogues but it really did... The ship gets really creepy after the one mission you're not Shepard (which I found could have been done better - it just interrupts the flow a bit too much when without warning you're in another character)... The mining game became tiring really fast (especially without upgrades), but after mining 3 systems completely clean I had more than enough resources to complete all upgrades (I was short only about 1000 Element Zero and Platinum)... I encountered only two bugs: Verner said I put a gun in his face when I didn't and although I did the mission with Grunt perfectly his special ability somehow wasn't unlocked...

Anyway, if the other games this year are on the same level (yes, I rate ME2 GotY-material), 2010 will be an awesome year for gaming...

Quote from Byku :Do not agree. I believe that better collision system will create better racing... after lap 1 ^^ and MUCH MORE exciting ^^.

Nah, iRacing shows that even with a very punishing damage model AND a stat tracking how many incidents you have there will still be pile-ups in T1 because some idiot(s) can't deal with his surroundings...

Quote from tristancliffe :Shifting 0.2 seconds late probably costs in the region of 0.0000001 seconds per lap.

Added up, that doesn't make even one thousandth of a second over the course of a 24h race...

Quote from tristancliffe :[...] like shifting better (0.05 seconds per lap), [...]

Now it's 5 hundreths per lap all of a sudden...

Quote from tristancliffe :No point finishing 2nd by one second when you could win by 2 seconds...

And finally it's worth 3 seconds over the course of a race... Come on Tristan, I know you can do better than that - pick one and stick with it...

Quote from tristancliffe :Motor racing isn't about finding large advantages. It's about sewing together lots of tiny ones - like shifting better (0.05 seconds per lap), lower drag wheel bearings (0.05 seconds per lap), being lighter (0.1 - 1.0 seconds per lap), increasing downforce (or decreasing lift) without increasing drag (0.01 - 3.0 seconds per lap)....

There is no one big BEST thing to do in racing. But if you aren't doing your shifts well then you are going to be slower than if you are. Surely that is all the motivation one needs to learn about it, and to do it better?

Hold on, first you tell us the advantage of perfect shifting is negligible, now you say that every bit - however small it might be - is important... What's it gotta be now?

Also, a real sound card will go a long way to good quality audio... These audio chips really are terrible in comparison and are very susceptible to interference, and you will free up the CPU a little as bonus...

Quote from Mr_Lonely :u dont need liquid for dust..

thers no rain, thers no dirt, just dust..

unless ur digging deep into the ground and get to the wet part.. but thats neever gona happen.. ^^

From that response I'm guessing you're more of a digger-person than a car driving one, your idea of dust (especially that on a race track) is completely wrong...

Completely dry dust will never stick to your windscreen, so you'll never have to wipe that off anyway... What sticks to it is oily/greasy dust, which you will need some form of cleaning agent for as you'd just smear it across the windscreen even with water... This is why in every endurance race there are people vigorously cleaning the windscreen every pitstop, not because they just want to make the car look shiny new...

SimBin wanted to show off their working wipers (which is pretty much the only thing that sets them apart from ISI) so much they had to somehow integrate it even in fair weather (they're not really much help with bad weather, but that's another topic)... The tear-offs on the helmet are a really good idea (you'd think nK would have come up with it or at least copied it in the last five or so years), but cleaning a dirtied up windscreen with only wipers is a bad idea on the road and an even worse one on a race track...

Quote from Nathan_French_14 :Instead of coming on here and asking us to diagnose a problem with your car OVER THE INTERNET, and then getting some "Audio Samples", why don't you just get underneath the car, and feel around the exhaust for any air escaping where it shouldn't....You know, like most car owners would?

:geezer:

Yeah, "feeling around" a hot exhaust is the best way to go about this... How about just looking and hearing when its on a lift?

Anyway, it sounds exactly like you have a hole in your exhaust somewhere... I know my car sounded like it had a sports exhaust or no cat shortly before I was dragging the whole exhaust pipe on the road...

Quote from lukelfs :Dude, its a free beta key, not the full game.. this has nothing to do with the last part you said... Well the people who got there accounts stolen had great friends

I'm sure you read that the beta is tied to your EA-account and that you can port your nick in the beta to the full game once it's out, so it DOES have repercussions if you misbehave in the beta... If you didn't, well now you have...

Quote from rockclan :On his opinion about the windscreen wipers working I kinda like that.

Think of it like this:

Scawen codes a nice thing that you get dirt on your windscreen during the race, then you turn on the wipers to clean the dirt away.

Ok, we just wait a few years until you're old enough to have a car and then you tell us how much dirt you're able to wipe away without a liquid of some sort... Forget RaceOn, that is a textbook-case of a feature for feature's sake...

Quote from GenesisX :I disagree. Sometimes small eye candy makes a hell lot of difference. Why? It gives more control to the driver and thus a higher degree of presence in the simulation. That's what I think. I may get flamed for saying this; (rethink :shrug I WILL get flamed for saying this, but hey... how long have we been waiting for Scirocco, and new physics? A long long time. If it is going to take that long, then we might as well get some newer small improvements; the multi monitor stuff was good; update update update... here you go! That will at least give some of us (me) the feeling that LFS is moving forward, and not at a stand still. To tell you the truth, I truly doubt that the newer updates will come in the coming year... And no, don't tell me to play rFactor or iRacing if I don't appreciate the game or the developers because I spent money on S2, and can't afford to buy those other games. I love LFS... it is just that S2 has been out for a few years now, and not much has been moving on, like the first few years it came out or what I observed when I first noticed LFS (Y, and Z).

So you want an utterly pointless addition to the game just so your (misinformed) perception of how LfS should be developed is satisfied? I'm sorry, we all know the update is taking its sweet time, but I'd still rather have the devs spend that time with meaningful improvements... If we get weather I'll be the first among the people suggesting windscreen wipers (if by whatever brainfart they're not already included in that patch), but until then it's completely pointless and it would only be the opposite of moving along...
