So, all the cars being completely soundproofed. Is that part of U32?
I can't even hear my own horn in there. All I can hear is my engine, the people around me's engines and a faint whine from the tires. When outside of the car everything's close to normal except for the weak squeak from the tyres still being there.
your both wrong its.. both lol
this is funny actually
try and understand this one:

[Late Latin, from Greek onomatopoiiā, from onomatopoios, coiner of names : onoma, onomat-, name; see n-men- in Indo-European roots + poiein, to make; see kwei-2 in Indo-European roots.]

LOL, that made me chuckle

With the engine sound down, and other sounds up, I am starting to really like the changes actually. Not as odd sound as I first thought, and I think this thread's had enough repitition that he'll get the hint
so u tried the mangled anglosaxon explanation from dictionary.com or similar when i have the explanation from latin based linguist?
err ok... i like those sites but their accuracy for non anglo-saxon is very...hmm...ruff.
what i pasted is correct. if u wanna debate it try the latin linguist specialist here:

no thanks im good lol

i think enough with the O/T chat though haha

Hiyas!

All Good here! I like the new sounds even a bit better than most of the CSR stuff.

Thanks developers!
Sorry for not commenting about the other issues but what i really, really, REALLY *NEED* is to be able of hearing my tyres.

Even with everything on "max" (skid on max, engine on min) i really can't hear it.

It annoyed me so much that i even went back to U30.

ps: i had unlocked my S2 just once, when i bought it, then today i unlocked it for U32 and then unlocked back to U30 again, now i'm left with no way of further testing U32 but really, i don't want to, unless i have some tyres' sound *pretty please*?

And if it won't get any better (tyres issue) maybe there could be an option to use the "current" sounds (pre-u32) on the next incompatible versions?
I would settle for that on a dime.

Else (without an option to keep the "old sound" and this issue not gettin' worked out) it would really drive me away from lfs.

Thanks for the attention...
What have they done with the sound of the cars? illepall
The sound sucks but it was nice with swedish
First off, loving the new sounds, still some way to go but a hell of a lot better than what it was. (Finally sounds like you have an engine of insane power behind you , instead of an rc plane motor)

Secondly, theres lots of nice little tweaks from the standard U patch, like the new mirror and view settings. Nothing too major but the small things are what makes the game :-)

Can't wait for Patch V (Few days, in your own words) and a big thumbs up from here.

One small question, Since i Unlocked for U32 - and thats the unlock/relock issue sorted, will i have to unlock yet again for the V patch ?
I had to go back to U30, when driving inside the car it sounded like I was wearing earplugs or something, everything was muffled and didnt sound crisp at all. After playing U32 then U30 in the lx6 I have to wonder if maybe my computer just doesn't make it sound right in U32, because it is so much better in U30
o my good ..... Sounds very very bad!

change please!
Not sure how i feel about these sounds. Some cars sound better, some just sound rediculous. Let me do a break down on how i feel about each car sound now....

First off, for the life-like street cars, the gear whine is TOO much compared to realism. In what average street car do you actually hear the gear whine? If it was fuel pump whine, then maybe i could understand. But even if it was, most street cars you dont hear the fuel pump unless the car is idling.

Uf1000: Sounds fine, i can live with it. Too much gear whine.
XFG: I think it sounds alright, but U30 sound was more aggressive, made the car seem more mean. Too much gear whine.
XRG: Sounds fine i guess. Although, i think i would prefer U30's sound over U32's. It was more agressive sounding and it actually sounded like a 4 cyl at high rpms. Too much gear whine.
LX4: Not sure how i feel, but there is too much gear whine. It should sound more like this.... http://video.google.com/videop ... &q=caterham&hl=en
RB4: Not sure how i feel about the new sound here. May be more muffled than U30's sound. Too much gear whine.
FXO: Sounds like crap. The FXO was one of the best sounding cars in the game, and now thats lost. This is one of the sounds that most upsetted me. Too much gear whine aswell.
XRT: Dont like the xrt sound either. It sound sound something like this http://video.google.com/videop ... 35552&q=rx7&hl=en
....again too much gear whine.
LX6: Sounds bad ass! I like the new sound. Gear whine is fine here, i guess.
RAC: Why is it so dang muffled??? Like every time you step on the gas it sounds like theres open intake, or as if someone puts their hand over the throttle body when accelerating.... i dont like it at all.
FZ5: i guess it sounds... OK. I really wish it wasnt so muffled. I like the U30 sound better. Gear whine ....maybe at low gears since the 350z has slight gear whine in 1st and 2nd gear, aswell as the porsche. Gear whine is too much right now.
UFR: Turned into a space ship. Thats all i can say.
XRR: TOO muffled. Whats up with all these muffled cars now?
MRT: Well, considering it has a street bike engine in the rear, and this sound is more like a touring bike sound, its safe to say that the sound isnt right. The gear whine is fine, because a lot of street bikes have that. Wish it sounded more like this http://video.google.com/videop ... 4467&q=zx6r&hl=en
FXO: I think this sound is great. Sounds alot like the mazda formula cars like someone had mentioned above.
F08: Too muffled. Needs to sound like the pistons want to fly out of the cylinders. Real life formula v8 cars SCREAM.
BF1: Sounds rediculous. Patch U32 installed a suped up moped engine in to the sauber. I have already been on 3 servers already that refuse to allow the sauber just because the sound is rediculous.
GTR cars: They all sound too muffled, not realistic... blah blah blah. Not happy.

Another thing. I do not like how the "gear whine" that has been implemented is a synthetic whine. It sounds more like radio interference than actualy gear whine. I think everyone should listen to how GTR2 sounds.... they have done a very good job replicating the sounds of all the cars.

I tried to keep it honest.
I wonder if the devs were expecting this response? I sure hope so or else the future of sound in LFS aint gonna get any brighter...
Hey mate im not agree with some of your coments about the cars, but well it your point of view, but in the case of XRT, u are messing for so long starting in your video coz that is an RX7, as most of mortal people knows rx7 use rotary engine, and as most of lfs mortals know XRT dont. point two is about the "gear whine" problem that u say. imho thats not the problem, i cant even notice a fail in that point, the thing in the xrt is the turbo that i almost cant hear, same with blow off. that in things that i "cant" hear. in the things that i can hear, the problem is that revs dont feet with the sound, and i cant feel the engine "effort" trought the sound.

i would like to have a bigger gamma of souds as u30, now cars sound pretty much the same in most of cars, atleast for street ones.

finally im agree Meanie, dont know if the sound of tires are that bad in the onboard cam but i need to be able to hear them as before or even more (much more) and more treble.

i hope u understand me
Just going by sinbad's comment on the LX4 sounding as if it were at 7000rpm when at 9000 and the Tristan's comment on the BF1 sounding like 8000rpm when at 19000... and the similarity of the cars... are you sure that the engine RPMs are being used and not a kind of percentage of redline rpm or something? (Probably not, just a wild guess but thought I'd post this in case its a bug in the code).

EDIT: Thought I'd also mention that the LXes' cloth roof shouldn't dampen half as much of the tyre squeal as it does now. It should dampen less than what the other cars do, definitely.

EDIT2: Just to make sure (not that I'd know by the sound but it should make a significant difference), is the right V8 firing order being used for FO8/BF1? They probably (I'm not sure) should be on flat-plane cranks.
Quote from SamH :Yes!! No!! Umm.. maybe!?

Yes.. I know Scawen's slogged his butt off the last few weeks, which is why he's not been around very much.. so I feel kinda gutted for him, that the patch hasn't gone down as well as previous patches.

This is why I'm keen to keep a finger on the broader picture: that this is only the first deployment of the new extensible sound system; includes a new auto-updater; a bunch of other modifications; a collection of gratefully received fixes; and so far (touch wood) is pretty darn stable.

But yeah.. I feel bad!

The reaction is fine!

I've made some notes from the good posts here - there was a lot of useful feedback. You have to filter out (ignore) the posts that just say "the new sounds are terrible" or "U32 is very bad". Those people should just ask someone who has ears, if the old or new sounds are better.

I like the posts which talk about this or that car, or general comments that make sense, and the technical discussions, and some good guys have been commenting here. So I've had quite a nice time reading these pages so far.

Now, apart from individual sounds, which I will look at, it's clear there are some overriding views that have been posted and are on my notes :

1) Need more skid and wind (default and option)
2) Need a bit louder turbo in road cars (but not too loud)
3) Need a slight reduction in muffling of roofed cars
4) A bit less gear whine in road cars (but not totally silent)
5) BF1 sound is universally disliked

Now that's just a list of the most urgent things for a quick update. Please, NO-ONE REPEAT what they have already said, for example exhaust sounds of particular cars, etc, just because I didn't write them on this very short list! I'm not going to write the whole 9 pages of comment here just so you know I've read the thread!

Of course there are improvements to be made - though I shouldn't really need to say or acknowledge that, because I never said the sounds were finished, I just said they have been improved, and that is basically without doubt. It's a much better system we have now.

Thank you for the mostly constructive feedback and I'll get some of the most important things done quite quickly and uploaded for a test of the automatic update system.
While there is room for improvement in regards to the engine sounds it's great to see the devs working on it. Reckon a lot of what we have in this patch is more to pave the way for a better sound system in the future.

BF1 does sound pretty funny though
Quote from XCNuse :i actually have one other thing i need to comment on
..buttons, when the computer is computing, and it keeps making that mouse click sound, and it repeats it several times.. that is VERY annoying (had that problem since U30 i believe)

Can you tell me which button you clicked for this? I know you just tried to make a general statement but I've fixed some of the worse ones of those recently - I'd like to know specifics so I can fix them individually.
I like that now the sound is louder at the exhaust side (rear). This is a step toward the reality!
Oh, can you shed some light on that auto-update thing, does it check for updates when you start LFS? Or when you connect to main server?
Quote from Blackout :Oh, can you shed some light on that auto-update thing, does it check for updates when you start LFS? Or when you connect to main server?

It's just when you click for a list of games, master server checks if you have the latest version and if not, then it will show you a list of files (sequential update patches) which you can then choose to cancel or go. It's a one-click system, your choice to update or not to update. It lists and installs the whole sequence of minor or major patches to bring you up to date.

The lfs_restart.exe is vital to the system and if you delete it or move it, the automatic update system won't work.
Great improvement with the sounds, good work, but they need some tweaking. BF1 sounds crap tho. All cars sound too muffled and way to clean.

Also the other improvements in the patch are great. Menus have been improved again. Good work!

And I found a bug:
When clicking channel in Audio menu the Garage-background pops up when you are still on track. Quite dangerous when you can't see where you're going.
I had another go at the cars...they actually do sound more accurate. I really like the FZ5 where if you rev it at 100% throttle, back off, then get back on it at 100% again, there's that surge in power you get from a responsive NA car. This wasn't there in U30. However, in turbo cars, the turbo whine (whistle) is much too loud i reckon. I was in a turbo car just today and the wastegate is louder than the turbo whine. Re: the UFR, it sounds very strange. As aforementioned, it sounds like a UFO or some sort of futuristic spacecraft. I think because you can't hear each individual cylinder firing, rather just a continuous sound, it doesn't make it sound like a car anymore. Just something i noticed.
The upgrades in the menu system is great. Nicer fonts and more intuative button asssignment system. The track selection page is very good!

However, I am very disapointed with the new sounds. All cars sound way too muffled, and very similar. Unlike in U patch or earlier, they are different, and very crisp, lots of treble that is. The U32 sounds lack so much treble, what is wrong? I can't even hear my tyres screeching properly now with MAX tyre scrubbing volume.

I hope it will be all sorted in the sound department and keep them as crisp as in U patch I recon. Different eng. sound is surely welcome, but has to be on a higher sampling rate. 44,000Hz, not lower or something like that.
