Quote from Inouva :rFactor is like a duck...
duck is the only animal that can walk, swim and fly... but he sucks in every situation.. he never will walk fast as a human, swim like a fish, or fly? like an eagle..... so this game have too many features for too low money, ended up being a bad game in every aspect

I don't know about rFactor, and you are surely right. But leave them ducks out of it. Ducks are wonderful animals. Daffy being my favourite.

I use 720º, H-shift, clutch, brakes. I'm sure I could squeeze a second if I used paddles, autoclutch, and a smaller wheel lock. One keeps loosing 10ths, because it's more difficult to be exactly precise. And one runs the risk of engaging the wrong gear, sometimes damaging the engine.

But then, it's 100 times more fun. With practice it very posible to get decent times and compete with the best. Another cool advantage is that, at least to me, it's easier to correct small mistakes without suddently biting the dust.

Keep practicing, you won't regret it.

I've lately been doing a webcomic. It's all about a man that decides to leave his current job and pursue his dream job of becoming a comic artist (Who hasn't dreamt of leaving their job and following their true passion). He also has a cat Sandy. It updates once a week, usually on thursday.

If you haven't read any this will link you to the first page:

http://www.drunkduck.com/Lets_ … x.php?p=601715

This will link to the last updated page:

In any case, you can easily navigate through pages in there.

Hope you enjoy it.

People are giving you very good advice here. My tips would be,
  • the faster you drive, the slower you go
  • so.. drive slow, go fast
  • drive the car, don't let the car drive you
  • get a wheel
LFSLapper has helped me a lot to practice off-line, long stints and then race distance ones. I reset times and start slowly, you will see your times improve quickly as you get a feel for every sector and the car's behaviour.

Racing is more than just being fast, something that helped me a lot is starting last and take the race step by step, focus on small goals "can I get nearer the car in front?" "how can I overtake him?" "can I keep calm and make a gap?" "next car!" "hmm not easy to overtake" "one more lap" "wow! that was fun! started last, and finished 4th" ALWAYS be clean, makes racing much more fun, and don't give up, last is far better than DNF.

In two words HAVE FUN.

You are bored? after 6 laps? 1.38+? Only tried XFG?

If you like driving, this is the best game out there. And once you get to race well (no need to be the fastest out there) and you get in racing with a nice group of decent racers, won't matter what position you finish in, you'll have the time of your life.

Hopefully I'll soon have S2, can't wait to try out all those cars and tracks. Meanwhile Blackwood and the XFG are far from boring me. Maybe the day I'm soo much better than anyone, which won't happen anytime soon.

Buy S2, and let the fun begin!!!!

I only use Windows for LFS and Flight Simulator. I might consider installing Win7 if THEY paid me $250 as long as I didn't have to use it for anything except gaming.

If you are fair and respect racing rules, I can't see any problem. After all this is racing, and overtaking IS and SHOULD be part of the fun. You might find a few fast guys that will unfairly bump you off, but bear in mind that these are not real racers, if you meet one of these just let them pass, after all they don't deserve your respect. But most love a good race.

You have to of course follow the racing rules plus a few common sense ones.

-leave space for the other car, if it's on one of your sides don't push it off the road.

-don't go blocking like mad. you are entittled to one blocking move, and a return to your racing line. As long as the other car is not already occupying that space (one or both will fly).

-If you loose control, and because of this loose speed or leave the track. You loose your rights. Don't go trying to fight in this case. Recompose yourself and remember the race isn't over.

-If you are passed, sometimes the passing car has to take a less ideal line which will allow you to re-pass. But remember, don't crash into him.

-A fight with another car will by definition slow you down, so if your direct fight is with another car, just let the other car pass, and get on with your race.

-Be in control of your car, learn when to go fast, you can't attempt to break your PB on every lap, you'll end up making a bad mistake.

-Enjoy your races, finish them. A last position is better than a DNF.

GREAT IDEA!!!! maybe this way there will be less crashing in demo servers. Wreckers won't be able to see you LOL.

On a more serious note. What happens in "real life"? Do they close down the track untill the weather gets better? Could be fun, specially if the weather is variable and the fog doesn't last the whole race.

Quote from Bandit77 :you do know that you can pretty much get along without ever touching the rudder-pedals in any plane, do you? [/smart-assing]

Hmmm... Maybe on a perfectly calm day (0 knots wind). Then you'd need to be towed from and to the parking lot. The landing field better be wide and long. Of course if you have a wonderful autopilot then you don't need other than a cigar, a bottle of single malt whisky, and a good book.

A race where everyone had 720º and H-shifter with clutch would be nice.

I duno, but maybe a solution would be something in the following fashion,

--There is a server that sets up a special racing category, and posts it's "setup rules" then before entering the race setup is sent to the server. You could also have the server check that sent setup coincides with setup being used at random. And at the end of the race, at least the podium and some at random will have their setup checked. If the setup used differs from the setup sent or in some way doesn't comply with the rules then the offender is penalized accordingly.

Seems to me easy enough to implement (hopefully only minor change in LFS code). Seems to me that this could make boths sides happy. Those that want it non-limited can still use it, and those that want a limited category can implement it too. Also it will be more like "real life". You could also have it that FERRARI get away with any setup

I saw this "Jamie" at the BLACKWOOD DEMO XFG XRG server at around 2am today. I remember because he just kept ramming into me, so I looked at his username and it was effectively ORANGE BOY UK. He wasn't alone either there were 3 or 4 others wreaking everybody and creating havock. It seems they come in packs to avoid getting banned.

I hope this information might be useful so these guys can be detected and dealt with.

So what did Julius Caesar Speak? Quechua?

First I want to say that I find it great that they can be language packs for any language or slang, and it's a great idea.

I've read quite a bit of literature in "Spanish", and independently from the country or region it comes from it is still the same language. It has many dialects, but any native speaker should be perfectly capable of understanding another one.

I think this "Latino Spanish" must be a USA idea, it's not like there is only two ways to speak spanish. The one that is spoken in Spain and the one that is spoken elsewhere. The variation between the way Spanish is spoken in Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba etc is as varied as these with Spain.

As for the Latino bit, well, it seems to me that the Romans never invaded America. So saying that the Spanish spoken in America is Latino and the one in Spain not, is like saying that English spoken in America is Anglo-Saxon and the English spoken in Britain is not.

Anyway, just my opinion. Nothing against a new language pack. Just that "Español Latino" might not be the best name for it as, at least in my humble opinion, all varieties of Spanish are Latino.

For me just the demo is worth the price of the full S2 licence. Hopefully I'll be able to get mine soon (do you hear me Santa?). Just divide the licence price by the hours you play, and you will find that the cost per hour is negligeable. So even if you pay for the licence, you still get to play the game for free .

I'll find out when I get my full licence but I suspect that it has more to do with people's personalities than whether or not they have a licence. One tends to believe that those that have paid for the game will behave better in general but of course one should expect exceptions. But it's their loss. Nothing beats a tight race with fair drivers. But of course "courses for horses" so I suppose it's a matter of finding the right group of people to race with.
