I believe this is true for me, until I can drive like Lewis Hamilton there is no need spending big on other racing software. LFS provides sufficient physics, tracks and setups for me to learn all about racing which is all I wanted out of it. When I reach this, and if LFS is no better, then I will go elsewhere.

I too have a love/hate relationship with the RAC, I regularly use it when I get bored of the rest and want to drive something a bit funky. The interior looks really good I think. As has been done to death, the handling is pretty bad. Understeer into the corner and death oversteer on the exit. It can even be pretty fatal just going over a crest like the first chicane at Aston Historic. I think the main reason for it is due to the short wheelbase, mid engine and road tyres. This means the low polar inertia will allow it to turn very quickly without the stable front:rear balance and grip of a longer wheelbase with slicks. Still it might be how the MGF, Elise, MR2 handle characteristics.

I think once we hit the 100 page milestone in another 6 or so months Scawen will close the thread saying this has gone on too long, if you hadn't figured it out already there is no new patch, LFS has done it's business and we have moved on.

6 months on into 2010 and people still think an update is coming......

I think the best thing to remember is if they car feels easy to drive, it's usually slow. The best thing to do is to be able to have a fast set (usually a bit oversteery) and drive it right on it's limit just before it breaks rear traction all the time. That will feel better anyway, and you'll just be overall faster everywhere because you can carry more entry speed, so more apex speed and you can drive the car straighter on the exit too because you're not struggling to get round the corner and it won't bog down, or have that 'too much friction' effect you mentioned...

What I don't understand is that the theory of making the tyres evenly and optimally heated is supposed to make you faster. However it seems having 70 degrees on the inside and just above cold on the outers makes you faster. Is this a problem with the simulation or is it practice in RL because I have read a difference of 5 degrees is the goal.

I don't think it matters whether LFS get's content or physics updates, it's about the simulation progressing. Either would be nice, but knowing it *could* be better and knowing nothing is happening is demoralising at best.

There is plenty of traction for cornering, that is what's puzzling me. I have included the setup as an attachment. I believe you are correct in that the only way forward is to go stiffer but this is counter intuitive to RL is it not?

I have created my first setup for Blackwood GP with the FBM, the tyre temperatures are between 68-70 on all 4 and across the entire tread. I have given it a soft suspension setup with next to zero wings. The setup is very drivable I can stamp on the brake late and hard throw it into the corner and apply full throttle almost instantly. In theory it sounds good but it's exceptionally slow, I'm struggling to get below 1:15's when my PB is 1:13.4 with a much harder setup.

I believe what I have created is a setup that is too grippy so it's causing excess friction and slowing it down. I think what I need to achieve is the car more on the limit which means less grip. However what is the best way to achieve this?

Has the new LFS been released yet??

Every WR that I have seen is a joke to be fair, nothing that could ever be done in RL. Full braking over the curbs, drifting, bouncing over chicanes, tires wrecked after one lap. Dear god.

I think when you stop recommending LFS to people is when you know it's really fallen on its knees.

I check a week later I see nothing new. What a surprise.....
