I too have the centring problem, my MOMO will do sharp turns unexpectedly. Its cost me a few definite 1st place finishes but so far nobody else's race!

Quote from JJ72 :ain't that the basic idea of all motion sims?

Not sure what you mean?

All the current racing simulators ive seen so far just replicate the forces with the movement of the seat in a general fashion. Not delivering 4 separate movements/vibrations etc to the seat.

As far as i can see (ive never actually used one of these things) no attempt has been made to give feedback about what the tyres are doing. Which i believe are totally different things.
Had an idea!

I was just thinking today at work about how far racing sims can actually get to the 'real' thing. And at first i thought ok so you wont be able to experience the G-force or at the very best get around 1 G with a pivoting seat.

So after a few google searches thats pretty much all i found, seats which tilt backwards and forwards to give the impression of the forces the car is under.

Then i thought, what exactly do you miss sitting on a chair rather than in an actual car. Simple, knowing what each of the 4 wheels is doing. Which means you need to know the suspension movement for weight distribution (instead of imagining it) and bottoming out, and the vibration and noise each wheel creates depending on where abouts it is traction wise. The effects of G-force are neither here nor there, you dont really want or need it to have full feedback from the car its basically a wasted by-product.

So i had an idea, how about putting a racing seat on a stand with 4 corners each representing the wheels. Each corner would have its own struts reacting independently to give you the suspension movements (or weight distribution), with facility to vibrate or shake with the help of a speaker to give an accurate sensation of the tyre load.

Does anybody else agree that that would give you total feedback of what the car is doing?

Thanks,

And yes im not that naive to think that this hasnt been done before and somebody is going to post a link of something similar to end the thread

Those comparison shots are insane, really is impressive the level of realism going into games these days.

Good news all round i say

I was also from the GT world until it became unnecessarily expensive (PS£) and i can say that LFS is a totally different world. The physics is on another planet in comparison, or rather actually on this planet lol. For that reason only the die hard racing fans tend to stick around and learn how to drive properly as its not a pick up and go game it takes skill and that only comes with prefect practice.

There is a few downsides however, you wont be screeching a GT40 around the city lights against a Jaguar race car and you wont have your own personal garage of unique exquisite looking cars. But you will have a better tool and environment to get at the core of what racing is all about.

As you can see im still quite passionate about the GT series and i hope it makes it onto PC someday

From the bottom the blue line would be better because you would get on the power earlier and therefore have a much faster exit. The red line would only be faster up until the apex of the corner whereas the blue line will be faster from the apex right up along the next straight however long that will be.

I would have done 1.14.xx, but I stayed too long on the curve so it ended and i went on the grass. How should i do the corner after the big straight, I alway go too slow there.

Your first problem is learning how to use the controls, every time you stab at the throttle pedal you unsettle the car, this is fine when your recovering from an accident say or pulling away but not mid-way through a corner.

Its also been mentioned before but your steering is too much and too 'jittery', it should be one smooth turn in and then turn out, not in-out-in-out etc.

I beat my PB the other day with 1:13.41, and the biggest thing that has crossed my mind since i was on '16's a few month ago is that the more time you spend on the throttle the faster your times will be. For this sole reason brake earlier and power round the corners rather than braking in them and coasting then gently applying throttle.

When this technique becomes second nature you will then need to concentrate on keeping the car balanced into the turn which is the stage i am at now.

Quote from codehound :If the tire model update makes it even better than it is now I don't think LFS needs to worry about iRacing.

I agree with this simply because LFS has its own feel which you cant replicate. Also iracing is very expensive and also American IIRC so its quite different in that respect.

What im trying to say is LFS has its own market and way of doing things which is a good thing for the game but not so good for the enthusiasts, naturally people will move to iracing like everybody moves from game to game just for a change, i know i used to play on rFactor just for a change of scenery!

Server hosts??

can somebody tell me what the crack is with some hosts, the other day i was racing on the ///M server, FMB @ Blackwood, one of the ///M guys was clearly wrecking others racers, he even stopped mid race to do some donuts before cutting me up at the chicane (i was 2nd) wrecking my car. when i opted to kick him, i got kicked off the server. how fair is that??

and just now, i was racing on the Hell server, same car and track, one of the [Hell] racers was leading, spun off on the last lap, i overtook him and was immediately spectated.

why are these people allowed to do this

Quote from dawesdust_12 :I read this thread and found nothing useful... (except apparently I skipped over bbman's post which explains exactly what I have written)

If you buy S2, you get all the S2 content for the rest of LFS's history. So you can upgrade to what becomes LFS 1.0 in the future and your licence will be valid. The thing that sets the licences apart is what content you are able to use. S1 can use their set of tracks and cars, S2 can use the S1 set plus the S2 tracks and cars and S3 (presumably) would have the S1 and S2 sets, along with the S3 content.

In short, the stages for LFS you are buying the content (cars/tracks), not features (everything that isn't content).

correct, but thats only because LFS is nothing other than cars and tracks. any 'features' the devs put into the game are essential to the running of the game and as such would be stupid not to include. i suggest you buy S1, play with the new cars and tracks, and then go for S2 depending on whether you think S1 was worth the money.

i play rfactor when i get bored of the LFS content, and in comparison, it really does suck. the graphics suck, the physics sucks even more, and the tracks and car mods always seem half arsed. not to mention the standard menu system and everything is just rubbish.

still, if you want to burn a F430 around the top gear test track, or take a 1955 F1 car around the Nurburgring theres not many other places you can do it!

its highly worth it, one of the best £24 ive ever spent. and you dont even have to spend it in one go, just £12 for S1 is much better than demo. its not just a game, your buying into a whole active community and thats something you really cant put a price on.

i guess your always going to get a different story from those interested in racing,, but, i am interested in racing and i live 5 miles away from the circuit, and when the crass tracking and motobikes is on its a pain in the ass to listen to. even though i live so close, i still havent been round it cause its god damn expensive. it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference to me if it was gone, my number one passion is cars and driving and if i cant make use of it then what good is it doing for the average joe who also lives round here.

its what you make of it i guess. you could turn driving a real car into a game if you were so inclined.

its an awesome idea to build one and id love to do it myself. however id prefer to drive a manufactures car in LFS than a custom job. just doesnt have the same appeal to me.

yes, was exactly the same for me. driving the BF1 was impossible, now i am just a few seconds of a WR using race set. its not so much throttle control but everything, you have to be on the right part of the track with the right balance etc and then good throttle control. you will get it eventually though.
