Quote from sinbad :If you look closely he appears to be nudging the shift lever with his knuckles whilst braking with that hand at the same time.

Pretty impressive, i'd like to see what the throttle looks like.

Edit: clearly it's a slightly different set up in the second video. On second viewing it's probably an actuator in the first video too.

It's the same setup. The gear stick moves because the gear change is probably done hydraulically and because the gearstick is connected to the gearbox the hydraulics move it too when he downshifts. I think that is visible in wrc videos and in most gt car videos where there is a stick and paddles.

Just hand controls

Wonder how he downshifts?

He has a button on the wheel, and an automatic blipping system. but yes he does have his hands full around the track.

last year he had anyways.

and the throttle is the ring around the backside of the wheel. the brake is what is sticking right up in the air and looks like a Rally handbrake.

Yeah, what I meant is that the distance between brake lever and gear lever is greater in the second video, so it's not the precise same layout as the first. Strange combination of levers and buttons anyway.

Off road racing driver that paralyzed from the chest down. Was actually good with it. Had his left hand on the steering wheel (doing more stuff obviously), and his right hand was on a thing that looked like a motorcycle twisting handle. However moving that "lever" forward was used for braking.

Can't find a video sadly. It was cool to see it happen when I was younger.
Wayne Rainey and Alex Zanardi are another couple of well-known racers who've adapted hand controls to drive karts/cars after losing control of their legs.

Don't hurt me. :I

Late response, I know.

I'm a motor sport 'traditionalist', but I really enjoyed that!
To me, this is exactly what drifting should be; skilled stunt driving as entertainment.

It's unfortunate that drifting also tries to be a competitive form of motor sport, which is where it all unravels.

Great vid!
Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Nasty, but what the fudge happened with that other car?

No idea. Was an insane crash, don't know if anyone was injured either.

Going by the comments no serious injury although the co-driver (or Navigator as they call them down under) stayed in hospital overnight. I would imagine the other car went the same way as well although ending upside down. No footage of that one although apparently there are some photos somewhere.

Scary stuff
In the video description: "Both occupants were relatively unharmed, the navigator had a short stint in hospital, but was checked out later that evening."
