I'm also on an aging GPU (Radeon 270oc) and LFS runs like butter. Everything is maxed except the flags in the mirror which isn't really important.
I'm not even sure we can change the post-processing while in VR, I'll have to check it out tonight.
VR is a game changer to me. Had mine a week ago and I need to race LFS every night. That MRT now.. Heart
[Controls] Bind the "VR Reset" function to another button

Hello,

I would like to be able to bind the "VR Reset" function to another key / button than F8.

I play LFS in VR (Oculus) with a 3DOF rig.
As I want the Oculus to track my head's position according to the rig and not according to the floor, my Oculus sensor is mounted on the rig. But Oculus has a "motion cancellation" system that regularly reset the helmet default position, and often while my ris moving (it can happen 3 or 4 times a lap). Fortunately, when the resetted position is wrong, the next reset give it a good position.
But still. Having to "guess" where my F8 key is when my hands are on my wheel, my eyes behind an Oculus and my body on a moving rig is not easy.

PS : The "motion cancellation" is not a LFS related problem, it happens on all games. But on those ones, I've binded a more reachable button to the "reset VR" Wink

i think it was f8 to bring up the VR orientation window, and then select your option... the trick is to do this without moving from your driving position.

There is a vr reset as well as a vr clicky shortcut on the Control tab in the options I believe.

I am currently testing the Trinus Vr software and not a single racing sim can currently compete with LFS. I am certainly a fanboy but I can not stop drive LFS since a week. I would never have thought (never) how awesome LFS with an external software and a normal smartphone would feel. Anyone who has a FullHD and higher Smartphone and a Geforce card should look at the combination of LFS & TrinusVRSoftware(usb) & Moonlight Software & TrackIr. The sheer madness! LFS

I am in love..... again.... with a ...... software Shrug Na-na

(yes, the resolution is not so good with an FullHD Smartphone, but the combination runs very smooth with 50-60 frames and are a realy good test for Vr) I never go back to a normal screen in LFS. Not even with 8k TV Omg omg omg

Thank you so much to Ibtasim6781 and Shirtkicker for the detailed responses!

A followup to my questions:

1. I discovered the LFS Hotlap Analyzer: https://www.lfsworld.net/rafa/ If I understand correctly; these are the current records for the particular tracks on a particular car? Looks like I can download the RAF/SPR of these laps. This is perfect for me; data to learn to analyze and learn to drive!

2. I will take take notes of autocrosses I attend and create my own courses Smile

3. Tyre Physics would be excellent! The XRG is good enough for me for now.

4. i5-4590 with a GTX660; thank you for the data point! DK2 is 960x1080 per eye. So that's 2M pixels approximately. You're right; 3 screens @ 1920x1080 per screen is a lot more pixels. 3 times as many in fact haha. I'm happy to hear that VR gives a whole different level of immersion; just poked around Youtube a bit and it looks amazing! Definitely will have to start saving pennies for that Smile

Thanks again, looking forward to start driving! Cheers,

Hi daftKow - welcome to the forum.

I can't comment on the 3-screen setup, but I'd suspect it would need far more power to run than a VR headset. I myself have been happily running an Oculus Rift DK2 on an i5-4590 with a GTX660 video card without any problems (no overclocking either). It plays other VR compatible race sims without complaint too.

My headset recently bricked itself, and I've had to go back to driving on a screen - it's so difficult! There's a whole lot of directional feedback that comes in directly through your neck and eyes that is totally missing on a flat screen. I could compare it to having your steering force-feedback switched off - it's that dramatically different.

Luckily the price of the Oculus is falling quite rapidly right now, so I'll definitely be investing in another soon Smile

Quote from daftKow :1. Is there a way to get the computer to run a "perfect lap"? Sorta like in OptimumLap; so I have a reference to approach. I see the "Pro" AI; is that a good place to start or still easily beatable by a good driver? Can I export that lap to look at the data and compare mine?

2. Is there an autocross course generator? One that follows SCCA guidelines would be awesome. Not crucial, but it'd be nice. I found the thread on the layout database so I'm sure I'll be happy for a (long) while.

(kinda a followup to q1+q2Smile A computer driver run a "perfect lap" on a custom autocross course would be awesome ...

3. I'll probably be focusing on the XRG as it's RWD with similar power to the Miata. It is a bit bigger and heavier though. Any plans to include a Miata-type car? same power as XRG but a bit lighter with double wishbone suspension...

Welcome first of all!

Answering the question/s:

1. Well, even in PRO you can beat them easily if experienced enough. To get you an idea:
BL2 (Blackwood Historic) with Formula BMW: A good lap for average racers is mid-low1:12s-low1:13s, and AI on PRO do 1:15-1:16s. Its good for references, but for online racing its pretty bad. Idk if you already discovered it, but pressing 4 both on numpad or the numbers below Fbuttons, you can toggle the race line, which will help you learning the track. AI runs 2-3 seconds below average racer laptime to resume such a testament.

2. If I understood the question well, Autocross has only MRT SCCA-alike layouts by default. Sadly there isn't any SCCA-like layouts by default for other cars, so you'll have to create them yourself, or search around the forums for them :S.

3. For now the top-priority is to release a new and improved Tyre Physics and the Volkswagen Scirocco. I'd leave that on a not certain. There will be more content added thats for sure, but we don't know which cars and tracks will be. It's a big question mark for now.

4. I'm not into VR, so maybe another user experienced enough with VR will answer you this question better than I could even do Nod.

Hope I answered your questions. Have fun racing on LFS!.

Hi All, new here.

Just downloaded the Demo but I'm sure I'll upgrade quite soon.

I drive an NA Miata and autocross on weekends. In order to improve my driving (and understanding of vehicle dynamics), I've begun looking at data acquisition and analysis.

LFS looks PERFECT for me. I'm excited to get practice at home as well as pull data from runs to play with; understanding how to use that data to be faster; as well as tuning my car.

Right now I only have an XBOX360 Controller; I'm looking the Thrustmaster T150 when I have the space and budget for a wheel. I will also attempt to drive with my mouse/trackball haha!

A few questions (to be fair I haven't messed around with it yet; so I apologize if they answers are obvious):

1. Is there a way to get the computer to run a "perfect lap"? Sorta like in OptimumLap; so I have a reference to approach. I see the "Pro" AI; is that a good place to start or still easily beatable by a good driver? Can I export that lap to look at the data and compare mine?

Try a wheel if you want to drift, Kb & m is bad enough to be precise with racing (Yes, there are some aliens with kb & m) but a wheel is far more precise, more enjoyable, and realistic.

Do you use a keyboard to drive your car ?

Seriously, the dev's here are on about VR, at least use a wheel with a Sim game in 2017.

Keyboard with GTA # = fine
Keyboard with a racing sim = Face -> palm

This is already happening, and not just random youtubers either - dedicated Sim racing channels have been singing LFS's praises for years.

There was a resurgence a couple of years back with the advent of VR, when LFS was making headlines because of its seamless VR integration, but since then it's calmed back down.

Until something substantial in the way of updates comes along, there's no point throwing money at promotion. For now, at least...

2) Finish some graphical updates that will help with new tracks.

Any chance that you have an improvement of physicsClock(100Hz) to screenClock(typical 60Hz) micro stutter issue in mind?

I know that many don't see the micro stutter as a problem, in fact some claim they don't have it which cannot be true unless they of cause run 20,25,50 or 100Hz on there display, but for me after I found a way to clock my main monitor down to 50Hz and seen the smoothness of constant image change frequency, it hurt my eyes looking at the jitter composed by the 100Hz to (60Hz or 75Hz) "latest frame" sampling which LFS currently does. And I would bet many would see it as a very big improvement on immersion, if this issue was addressed somehow someday.

Actually this issue is why I have not dared to buy a VR headset yet because I would intent to use it almost exclusively with LFS but afraid that the 100Hz to 90Hz jitter would ruin my experiences because I know it could be more smooth. And eyes are very sensitive to jitter when image is scrolling, the brain know it is fake and not a real world image.
This actually stimulate your balance centre the wrong way compared to real world image, which the balance centre use among other things to keep track of your balance and avoid you becoming dizzy. Of cause maybe the micro stutter is not making anyone dizzy and pop but it sure is noticeable when compared to none stutter and much more important for immersion than getting the lighting of the scene or the 3D models more photo realistic or even getting the tire physics(almost back on topic :-) ) more realistic than it already is.

The funny thing is that implementing an interpolation between physics and graphics each thread running on separate CPU core would actually yield more headroom for both physics and graphics improvement and solve micro stutter at the same time. Of cause this is easier said than done on a SW architecture I would guess was developed before multi core CPUs became mainstream.

PS: nice bikes..same story here, quit smoking and began bicycling 5-6years ago :-D only road biking though.

Hi Folks!

Been Messing about in Lfs for a few weeks now, I have a HTC vive and recently got a Logitech G29 wheel With shifter and had been looking for a great running simulator, i had no idea how great a game this would be, so i bought an s2 licence a few days ago and have been hooked ever since. Most Immersive thing i have ever done in VR and its great that i can play along with everyone rocking pc's/laptops. I feel like this is the Car/sim equivalent of Arma the way online feels.

Anyway just wanted to say hello! I know the game is old in the realms of things but i see a community still stands and i think its great that this game has stood the test of time so well!

See you out there Smile

Victor should probably ping them about LFS+VR combo - being available easily? (or maybe after V1 experience there's not much energy to get into such stunt again .... also I would guess all the major deals were secured before this was announced, and there's probably some vendor-lock-in going on in the background, so the chances for LFS would be slim any way?).

LFS in VR is awesome too, only racing sim with proper VR rear/side mirror rendering... such an awesome sim

never regretted buying this game for one second, from playing on single monitor, even laptop, to 3 screens and wheel to VR setup with cockpit, this game has such range; F1 racing leaves you tired and shaken after a few laps, so intense!

Copying from :

https://www.quora.com/Is-there-a-natural-gyroscope-in-the-Human-Body-to-balance-itself

"Vertigo is what happens when there is dissonance between your balance senses. There is more to balance than just those loops. Your body also knows where it is in relation to other parts of itself, which is how when you are sober you can touch your nose, but when you are stumbling around after a few too many drinks, you end up poking yourself in the eye. Also, your sight helps with balance. There is a large portion of your brain devoted to processing what you see, and one of its outputs helps with balance. If one or more of these senses are not reporting complimentary information, your brain gets confused and simply gives you a dizzy sensation."

I am doomed :-( on VR as even the smallest dissonance between sight and labyrinth makes me sick...

Not necessarily.

I can play AC all day long - no problems after a small initial acclimatization. No problems with any of the content designed for VR - except maybe Eve: Valkyrie if I do the barrel roll thing. But I tried Skyrim using VorpX and even though it works well and looks cool, I found the same as you - under a minute and I felt terrible. Tried a few times, and doesn't seem that I'll be able to do it.

May have to do with VorpX / framerates / FOV. I used to think if I could just get games to render in VR it'd be no problem, I guess there is a lot more to making it comfortable than I gave it credit for.

My dad managed about half a lap of South City Classic in our DK2 before feeling ill for the rest of the day. Long story I've posted here before, but now he's on it hours every night, and just won his second ever race in iRacing tonight at 57.

Took him a couple of weeks to find a way to deal with it. Few months until it wasn't an issue. A year later and he can do donuts and J-turns in LFS that make me queazy.

You CAN find your VR legs if you keep doing it bit by bit, and avoiding stuff that triggers it at first.

For my dad it was reversing, and if he got in a spin he'd have to close his eyes until it stopped.

Also, play in a cool environment with a breeze or a small fan blowing your way.

Well that is interesting but there are some points to consider.

- The software for motion seats often adds extra motions that aren't really there. For example the seat may lean back to simulate acceleration. I think in your case you want the seat angle to exactly match the car's angle. This may be available depending on which seat you buy.

- Normally the seats don't rotate so there is still a disconnection from what you are seeing.

- Most importantly, VR headsets don't naturally work with motion seats. There are serious problems, because the movement of the seat affects the input to the sensor. There are related problems no matter if the camera is mounted on the seat platform, or the floor. The guys at VectionVR have been solving these problems by hooking into the software and taking account of the position of the motion platform. http://www.vectionvr.com/en/index.html They know about Live for Speed and used it for early testing.
