100% Rain on the forecast resulted in me not going to the trailer to do any more testing.

Next event, is on the 25th, if it does not rain, or if they give me an indoor spot. I may not get to do any more testing (with the monitors & wheels) until then. Next event after that is on the 27th.

SEMI OFF TOPIC:
Video Devices had me thinking about how well VR would work in multi instance. Is there any obvious reason 4 Vive Helmets would not work with LFS on the same PC?

OK, here is the test patch. I don't recommend it for everyone, as some lighting has been removed from some of the objects in the more recently updated tracks (WE / BL / RO).

Please backup your version R LFS.exe so you can return to that version at any time.

EDIT : UPDATED TO R7 ON 24 OCTOBER

NOTE :

When you first run this test patch there will be a hang of around
40 seconds while the old .raw files are converted to .png files.

NOTE2 :

Due to various updates, the rendered lighting has been removed from
modelled objects in the game. This can only be fixed by supplying
freshly rendered tracks but this is just a small test patch.

Installation :

A FULL version of LFS 0.6R must already be installed

To install the PATCH :

1) Move or save the patch into your main LFS folder
2) Double click the patch to extract it to that folder
3) When you see "Confirm File Replace" select "Yes to All"
4) Now you can start LFS in the normal way

NOTE : You can see if the patch is correctly installed when you run
the program (LFS.exe). At the bottom of the entry screen : 0.6R5

Changes from 0.6R to 0.6R5 :

Textures :

PNG files are now used in the few cases where RAW files were used
Removed option to view sky in 16-bit colour
Sky now uses DDS (compressed) textures

Commands :

Improved processing of command line to be more flexible
New command /settings=X.txt - uses X.txt instead of cfg.txt
Command /settings must be the first on command line or in file
Command /mp (join local host) can now be used on the command line

Misc :

Live for Speed can now recover from a graphics driver error
LFS starting in borderless window mode now goes to the same monitor
Textures are no longer reloaded when changing weather (avoids hang)
New option "Display LFS logo in game" (not optional in demo mode)
English file is no longer saved when LFS starts (can be deleted)

VR :

New commands to skip F8 menu /vr reset_headset and /vr use_relative

In the meantime I get the new AntVR II (Cyclop) (as a backer: for free).

Because AntVR make use of SteamVR, the headset works in "VR Headset" mode without problems. But because AntVR solves the position tracking only with the carpet (with the internal cam), headtracking is like DK1 (forward/backward and side moves are NOT tracked). Thats really bat. But normal headtracking (looking around) works really good. The Headset is ok. But currently the latest consumer Oculus Rift is cheaper then AntVR and works better.

All of them - although some are easier to see into than others. If you have VR, you can also see yourself in the mirrors.

Open LFS client,in options under misc you can select the resolution of automatic skin download - if you select 1024 for cars and 512 for helmets, you'll be charged 1 pound for each 2000 automatic skin downloads.

PS. I'm not sure if it's worth to select helmets to higher resolution, you can't see much of them anyway unless you use some of the VR options.

Where excactly do you want to play VR games?
Remember it is not like playing normal games on smartphone, you have the display mounted on head and can not see anything. So it is not practical to use in almost every situation where people typically play games on phone.

I guess there are already some hacks to connect some USB wheels... but even some VR controller should be enough, they are reasonably accurate.

That said I don't think this will happen anytime soon, unless Scawen would be willing to spin-off that sub-project to somebody else. Smile
How about LFS for Android?

Hello,

Could it be developed an Android Version of LFS?
The LFS is a quite lightweight simulator, so i think it can be ported to Android. So, we can use it with Smartphone VR(like GearVR), play it without PC, and multiplay it anywhere! Don't you think it's an interesting idea, uhu?

Yup..

Quote from MKRYDR : Police sirens!

That is what you make of it. Since patch N by the way. Had something to do with a virtal keyboard for VR not working. And you try to rape this as a reason to backup your own suggestions. Bad idea.

Anyway.. It's not going to happen, keep on talking.

Yes, this whole VR thing.. Was it all being done by own intel? Or where there talks in the scene and the job got done faster due to help of others? The thing with this physics is that no assistance can be called and I assume thats the reason why it is being stuck for so long. Running into problems by which nobody can help.

Don't forget that LFS was among the fastest to implement VR. The ability is there, enthusiasm we can speculate on. If LFS were at a dead end, i think we would see more S3 content, as the potential S3 income decreases as LFS ages- though no one ever accused the LFS team of being marketing geniuses.

The physics release will revive the community, for some amount of time, and I think implementing multithreading will be one of those things Scawen excels at. From there we can see graphics improvements, and then LFS is right back in the conversation of "which racing sim should I play?".

A computer that is well below their minimum spec will also run an Oculus without any problems. For instance, my DK2 ran perfectly on my i5-4590 with a GTX660 2G GPU (Fatal1ty H97 mobo, 16G DDR3 ram - built for NZ$900 (US$750) in 2014).

Once you get started in VR though, you'll definitely be playing other stuff, in which case I'd recommend getting a more powerful GPU, as the CV1 resolution and refresh rate is a bit higher than the DK2's. But don't buy a "package" - they charge premium prices for low-quality components in order to make as much profit as possible.

Pretty much any decent PC can run LFS even in VR.

The question is if you want to run other things aswell, if you don't then that PC is overkill, if you do then this is the minimum requirement.

You say you are not into PC's, if you feel up to the challenge of building your own you would get much better components for the same price or less.

Example: (first google result didn't thoroughly check it but looks ok at a glance) http://pcgamehaven.com/best-900-dollar-gaming-pc-build/ 900$ + 400$ for rift and touch = same price, faster CPU, faster GPU, faster RAM + SSD.

The PC bundle you linked is also about 2 years old, you can probably get this used for a much better price.

I use Trinus VR for LFS -> android smartphone VR.

Turn on view control: mouse XY and you're good to go for cheap VR.

Quote from Abone :Down significantly in 3D Mode. You tried the same setup in other sim or game? if yes, how goes your smartphone?

Yes. Assetto & RFactor2 & Pcars

Every other Sim is not recommendable with my Setup/ Pc. The frames seems "okay" but there is a little stutter and a little fisher eye look. Lfs is the only Sim with native Side by Side 3d mode.
(Big win)

For the other sims you need a external Programm like Tridef to double the Picture but its not realy good compared to LFS. (But i must test it little bit more, maybe there are some other tweaks.)

In LFS you are in 30 seconds on the track with your VR Smartphone. The other sims are very much harder to config. Wink

~150-250 frames in >3d mode<. (But i lock 100 fps most times)

(Amd 8350, 8 Gb, 660Gtx)

But now i try/play in VR. (Smartphone,TrackIr,Trinus,Moonlight, usb terhering). On the smartphone i have about 50-70 frames left.

I do the very same thing by using the custom view as a passenger. It's pretty neat and a good way to show LFS in vr to some friends who are not into sim-racing. You can add a passenger in the setup screen to fill the void if you don't mind the added weight.
We can even take a seat around the track and watch cars passing by with Shift+U. I guess now we need some big screens around the circuits and some popcorn.. before we get kicked out for not racing on the server Tongue

3D monitors run at 120 Hz. I would be interested in this (not VR)

Update:

Been gone for a while. I still use this rig and have made only minor modifications.

Might remove the monitor entirely in favor of a VR phone solution I found recently. The monitor is trash right now.

Also I put screws for support around the pedals.

Multiplayer users should be able to join as a passenger on a drivers car. They would be able to look around. This would be amazing for VR.

While racing in VR, or even on a monitor, it's a bit weird having the information from the F9-12 keys being shown on a HUD outside of the car. It would be nice if we could stick a tablet/phone whatever screen on the dashboard (where we want it to be by choosing the X and Z coordinates ourselves) and having access to these telemetry there instead. We could cycle from these windows with a simple click between tyre temp, brake balance and whatnot.

update:

Some marbles building up around the track as races progress would be great. Aesthetically it would show the racing line but it would also be more slippery if you go out of it, making overtaking manoeuvres more realistic and challenging.

Ain't sure the developers are still reading this thread as there are over 800 posts by now and their hands are full already but still, might be worth a look in the future as to make LFS more realistic.

My settings:

Limit ingame framerate Yes
Max framerate 90
Sleep every frame NO
maximum buffered frames 1
Multiplayer speedup option Yes
Multiplayer car draw 250
Dynamic LOD reduction 0.50
Accelerometer Relative
Post processing shader Yes
Shadow gen Default

I was surprised to see that your much better video card wasn't able to handle it smoothly while mine was alright, than I figured out that while in VR, my post processing shaders aren't different while On or Off. Maybe it's a thing on AMD cards, but it's working while I'm in the 2d mode.

I'm glad you have it working, hope to see you on the track soon!

I5 as well, clocked to 4ghz. 980ti. 16g ram. win10

Turning off post it def got smoother. Actually done a few laps without a perfomance monitor in my face for the first time.

It's not running terrible but even when I've got a fair bit of processor headroom I've noticed cars judder a bit and in corners the scenery seemed quite jerky as it scrolled by.

It is the only racer I've tried in VR that hasn't needed ASW on 100% of the time. The perfomance monitor constantly reports 90 which is at odds with what I see tho.
