I just wanted to say that the new "View lock" to filter / horizon feels amazing even without VR! ^^

Just a maybe here, because i've never tried VR, but is it a possible reason that when Live for Speed is not running smooth enough (at 50Hz/50fps / 100Hz/100fps with vsync is smoothest), lets say if it is running at 60Hz with no vsync and that is causing the motion sickness, dizziness?

Quote from bishtop :it will take a little time for your brain to "reprogram" itself. My 70 year old dad was the same using his for a short while but soon got used to it

I'd be interesting to know if age was actually a factor. It took me some time to get used to VR. The process of feeling comfortable enough in VR to race in LFS took quite a while too.

Quote from Bmxtwins :I bought a cheaper WMR headset for $100 and it’s been working great. Haven’t tried on LFS though.

I was really impressed with the HP WMR headset when I tried it with LFS. The VR experience was comparable to the Rift or Vive in LFS so people on a budget should not overlook the WMR range.

For the record, I still think the Rift offers the best VR experience in LFS.

It's really just a quick update to fix these very serious issues with some new VR headsets. I found a few other things to fix and some quick updates. I won't be getting into improving the AI drivers in this version of Live for Speed. I'm getting right back to the lighting code in the development version next week.

Sorry for my lack of presence. I had some issues where my pimax would stop working, so I had to have someone help me which took a bit of time with the time differences.

I can confirm it works without PP, and IPD correctly reports in VR now. Great work, this is why LFS stays quite good after so many years.

Quote from loopingz :Side question what hardware do you run and how many fps in lfs? The 8k looks crazy on the paper (except for the lower refresh rate) and the 5k not bad either.

Heh afraid I'm using the 5k+ on a 2080ti, so lfs isn't very demanding.

OK, here is a test patch which I hope will work correctly with Pimax in native mode (with PP disabled).

Please give it a go and let me know how it goes.

I'd also like to know if your IPD adjustments are taking effect in LFS.
You should see a message at the top left when you adjust the IPD.

I'd also like to see the contents of a log file (LFS\ovr_deb.log) if it works or doesn't work.

Yes, I can confirm its working fine.

Running with your updated DLLs I Switched ON the option for Compatible with Parallel Projections and then closed SteamVR.

When launching LFS Steam VR starts up and all is fine. I guess as I only really have this that needs PP switched on I was disabling it to go back to the other games before restarting the PC or Steam.

I do agree that the image looks cleaner without PP but I only have one eye to go with on that and from what I have read elsewhere it will be much more efficient without PP.
https://forum.pimaxvr.com/t/psa-parallel-projection-makes-things-blurry-on-5k-8k-dont-use-if-the-game-doesnt-require-it/11564
Saying that though, I have my one running at maximum quality for everything and still get 80fps easily although I do notice artifacts in the sky, black polygon flickering now and again.

Parallel Projection is set in the Pimax software, PiTool under the Settings->Brainwarp

I haven't found anything else that needs PP enabled yet but they have a list here
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11ljKyF0eMgY3qqZWjVVBvI0brfv9IxocXjroYtJyTlY/edit#gid=0

If you are in the Kent area (Chatham) of the UK feel free to drop me a PM and do a bit of testing.

Hi Gavin and emiljensen2, please could you try this test?

EDIT: Please see the new test in a later post:
https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/1946022#post1946022

It will not correct anything, but I would like to see the results in two different modes to help me understand what's going on.

1) Install the test dll attached to this post. It's actually the same one as posted in the Odyssey thread on 24 February.
2) Enable Parallel Projection, enter VR mode, exit LFS and rename the log file LFS\ovr_deb.log
3) Disable Parallel Projection, enter VR mode, exit LFS and rename the log file LFS\ovr_deb.log

Then attach the two log files (or paste their contents) into a post here so I can have a closer look.

Thanks.

Short answer: If you have S2 - NO

Long answer: Blah Blah VR, Blah Blah Rockingham, Blah Blah.... Ok, I'm now out of long answer. See many of the posted responses above for differing opinions.

If you still have any LFS online racing in your area and they race on Rockingham then perhaps.

IMHO S2 is all you need until the ( upcoming, long awaited, being worked on, see the progress reports.................................) game is updated to make S3 a meaningful update.

Disclaimer: I purchased S1 in 2005, then purchased S2 when it was released on June 24, 2005. S3 was released on 19 December 2015.........
And yet I still do not feel it is a mature DLC release in late February 2019.
Just my opinion, feel free to disagree.
Did I Say That?

Work a small single digit number of hours and forget about the question altogether.

If you like LFS, you'll like whatever extra content, especially after 10 years, and the idea that your handful of $CURRENCY will help LFS move fwd that bit more.

The question is better worth asking for something truly substantial like investing in new simpit gear or something. If you've been gone 10 years then (IIRC) you missed the VR developments, for one.

OK, this one is the same as before but with some initialisation info logged to a text file "ovr_deb.log".
When it's convenient for you, please enter VR mode using this DLL then exit and post the text file here.
It's just a small file with no private info as you can see.

Quote from README.txt :Installation:

1) Exit LFS
2) Rename the original LFS\dll\LFSOpenVR.dll
3) Copy the test version from this zip file into LFS\dll
4) You will also need the OpenVR dll "openvr_api.dll" dated 30 Jan 2019

Now you can start LFS in the normal way.

Quote from chanoman315 :Well, the endurance races gather a lot of people. The Daytona 24h had 2k ish players, and average https://iracer.info/statistics

It is the most played simracing game nowadays for sure. I'm happy paying, at least we get updates, cars, laser scanned tracks, and most important, other players to race with.
Racing IRL is expensive compared to iracing so I really don't see a big problem.

Yeah, as much as I don't like iRacing's pricing model or even physics model, it's hard to beat the consistent races with semi full grids at all hours of the day. Where with LFS I have to plan all week for the 3 races I can drive in, and if I'm even 1 minute late, then I don't get to drive any races. Where iRacing I can just check schedule on my phone and ensure I'm around near the start of an event I wish to drive in and get to race against others.

I resubbed to see if the physics got better (they haven't) but I'm still enjoying myself especially as I get to have some pretty interesting races with other drivers.

LFS is still much better in VR (Menus are accessible, graphics are sharper, I can handle a 4 hour session (quali + 3h race) in VR in LFS with ease, where after like 40 mins I have a headache from iRacing

I still don't know what's wrong with their physics though, I started driving the Pro Mazda earlier and there's this really odd "understeer into snap oversteer" that I feel and I'm not sure if it's just bad setup or just how the iRacing aero model is.

I've compared IPD in Windows Mixed Reality debug window and IPD that LFS shows. They have the same values. When I'm changing IPD on headset - LFS shows right values.
But in Odyssey+ I'm feeling how left and right eyes have incorrect IPD. And it's not only horizontal problem . Vertical position between left and right eyes are incorrect too. Looks like right eye have a little bit +right and a little bit +top values.
p.s. I've tested Odyssey+ on two different PC's, with clean last version of LFS. I've tried to use different NVIDIA drivers, different versions of STEAM VR. And I've tried to switch between Odyssey 1gen, and Odyssey+. Every time I used Odyssey 1st gen = all is good, and Odyssey+ had this issue.

In NZ anyway, there is no VR. No real retail, competition etc. And if you read what I said, It's the fact that VR isn't NEEDED for gaming at the moment. Yes its nice, yes its still being developed, and yes, it still has a long way to go.

Clearly Codemasters feel the same and believe that they will sell enough product without the need to support a still emerging tech.

I'm just happy that they are still trying to produce a decent Rally game, with weather, good physics, and immersion.
I'm much happier with that being the outcome personally.

For those of you that feel that its VR or nothing, more power to you.Na-na

Linus is also known as an avid hater of VR for whatever reason. VR is pretty cool, but needs probably 1 more generation to be truly great.

When their predecessor supported VR (which means they have decent engine support for it), the lack of VR is just weird/silly.

Quote from Racer X NZ :Well, VR is just so mainstream as "EVERYBODY" runs it... NOT.

As someone who thinks VR is a massive **** only enjoyed by those with a large disposable income who will need to spend equally large amounts of money repeatedly until this either dies or becomes usable, let's see which, here's an opinion from a 1080 gamer.

Looks good, Codemasters seem to be focussed on an actually rally sim. As the last great rally sim was Colin MacRay, untold years ago, much credit to them for trying to create a great rally sim.

When other racing sims (including first version of Dirt Rally) support VR, omitting it is a huge blunder. Sim racing is already pretty niche as an activity, so catering to that niche is important.

Adjusting graphic parameters in-game is, or atleast should be instant. If you're installing higher-res textures, you can avoid restarting the game by switching first to half-size textures and then back to full again, this will force texture reloading. This all can be done on track without exiting back to the menus. Good to hear you solved your issue though.

If there's a possibility to set the render scale, LFS doesn't use much resources so I think having twice the resolution would improve the image quality a lot without taking much toll on the FPS. I don't have any clue about this though, I don't own a VR set yet Tongue
