Yes, the .TEX files NHeat use is not the usual .TEX files you see that you can open with photoshop or PSP etc.
No, they are not impossible to hack, but... NHeat came out some time 2000 and is very soon six years old. The only .TEX viewer made during that time is a real hog to get to work, and the output is a very poor version of the original paint.

Skinning for NHeat is very similar to skinning for LFS. You start with a template, paint away and save your work when it looks ok in the 3D program. Then you go trough the extra process of converting the skin to a .TEX file and make it very hard to unpack.

Now... If I make a skin, I almost always put my country flag and my name on it somewhere. Something I like to do cause there usually are names and flags on real racecar paintjobs. I don't think anyone would like to use that skin unedited

I find myself talking a lot about Nascar Heat in this forum, hehe. But anyway... In NHeat, when you make a paint, you have to save it as an uncompressed 24bit .TGA and then use a tool to convert it to a .TEX file witch NHeat understands and can show. There is almost not way of reverse this process (makinga .TGA out of the .TEX) and it has proven to be most effective when it comes to stop people from ripping off other peoples work.

So... A one step process of encrypting the .JPG skins into LFS's version of a .TEX file witch is still downloadable and still viewable in every aspect, but not possible to reverse and load into a paint program. I bet it would take a lot of the fun away since no one (well at least no one I know) would like to drive in a paint with someone elses name on it.

Possible?

Felt like I had some time so I downloaded it for Nascar Heat and took pictures for you

If you do a quick search around the Nascar Heat and NR2003 fourms I'm sure you'll find at least a few pictures of it. Than some of the awesome painters could have a go at it from there

Hmm... Wonder why There are loads of people listed in just about every country except Sweden, Norway and Denmark? I mean, there has to be more than one in each of those countries playing LFS right?

It seems as most people in this thread agree that the reset option should be available, but with a time delay of sort to simulate the fact that track marshalls has to run to your car and manually push it back on track.
So the ultimate solution would be to have this as a server option.
Reset Possible - On/Off
Reset Delay - X seconds

Everyone should be happy and everyone could have exactly the sort of racing and rules they like. And chance of this being implemented?

I agree that it should take time, there and then. Time added to final time just isn't the same.

I agree. I don't use the reset option very often since it's usually don't do much good. But a reset option with a timedelay would be more than ok if it put you back on track.
I know it's not "real" to have it that way, but for the sake of gameplay, it should at least be there as a server option. Just imagine to be the one putting the car in the trap during a 24 hour race and having to explain to your team mates that you went off and ruined the race for them all.
5 seconds seem a little low though. I could go for up to as much as a couple of minutes.

I have no idea about how much programming that needs to be done to implement this sort of thing, but I do know that I would really like to see it
Most important to me is day to night transitions, since this would ad a lot of feeling to 12 and 24 hour endurance races. This even exists in SCGT these day (with clever use of animations) so I guess it's not as hard to do as dynamic weather.
Having dynamic weather and all that comes with it would indeed add to the feeling of this sim. The possibilities are endless if one had to race in a constant spray from the cars in front, suffer from malfunctioning windshield wipers, always trying to drive in the "dry line" and so on. But... Day to night first please

I had this when my Gfx card started to give up on me. Some games worked fine and some ran for a short time or not at all before the computer rebooted. After a while though, it was impossible to start anything gfx heavy.

I have a Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP. IT's my second one and I've had it for about two years. The first one lasted for about the same time, before it starte to malfunction. However... The pedals have been great and I still use the pedals from the first wheel. No real need to change them since the haven't let me down once in four years.
I will get a DFP some time this month, but from the sound of it, I better stick to the Wingman pedals

Anyway... For a budget wheel, I can really recommend the Wingman Formula Force GP. It will last for about two years of fairly hard driving (about a couple of hours a day in average). If there is one thing that will malfunction, it's the shift paddles. Not a big problem since you can manufacture a sequential gear shifter from almost any joystick and place it beside the wheel.

oups... sorry about that. I own that to actually (got it in a software bundle), but never had the chance to race it online.

I'm a newspaper distributor, or paperboy for short. It's like this...

140 kilometers of gravel road
1 Toyota Yaris
700+ newspapers
A crazy guy who spend his free time driving race sims

Result is a lot of frustrated subscibers wondering when and where that damned fool will wreck the car, and why the hell does he have to drive like that

More server possibilities (spelling?).

* Auto Welcome message.
* Choice of rolling start (with formation lap).
* Auto drive trough penalty for hits from behind (I know, I know, it's hard to do, but it was done in STCC by Digital Illusions).
* Credit system as option (mentioned this in another thread). Basically you use the credits to "buy" cars, pay entering fees to race and pay for repairs, and also win credits when racing.
* No instant return to pit and start from scratch, but rather (for the sake of gameplay) an option to "tow" the car to the pit and continue the race after X ammount of time.

Other stuff I'd like to see is at least dedicated pit slots and maybe a guy holding a pit marker (no real need for animated crew).
Day and night, and day to night racing with rain.

I would like to see some versons of real tracks. And especially Swedish tracks
A track like Mantorp Park for example, could be a perfect track location since it has at least three possible configurations.

And it would be VERY fun to have the not yet finished (if it ever will be) Viking Motor Park in LFS

As you can see, this one has many planned configurations and if finished, it will be one of Europes biggest tracks.

Why compare? Why compare only two sims? Why not play more than one sim? Why always these kind of topics that generally don't lead anywhere? Why do I bother to type this? Well as long as I'm here, I might as well go on
These are the simes I drive or have driven.

SportsCar GT
GrandPrixLegends
Nascar Heat
F1C 99-02
Nascar Racing 2003
Live For Speed
rFactor

Each of those has it's own ups and downs and none of them cover everything that I value in a racing sim. If I had to chose only one, LFS would be the obvious choice, but I'm glad I don't have to.
Some of them I've stopped driving because of issues that has not been solved or improved upon.

NR2003... This one has virtually killed a gfx card for me. And nearly took another one out a few weeks later. Long discussions with all kinds of people and no one managed to figure out why or managed to solve the problem. All I got out of it was an empty wallet. I don't play it any more.

F1C... You can say what you want, but this one could have been great if the multiplayer function had been better and the graphics performance had been better than average at best. Mod's for this sim is what kept it alive. I don't play it any more.

rFactor... You talk about LFS not being finished, and so we can not compare it with rFactor. Well in my not so humble opinion, rFactor is far from finished. It lacks a lot of stuff that really should be in a professional sim from day one. If this sim had been relesed like this and not been open to modders, I would probably have gotten a refund after about an hour or so.

GPL... I don't drive it as much as I used to, but it's still on my harddrive. And when ever I feel the need to focus on something other than real life for a while, I start it up. Because, let's face it. If you don't focus when you drive in this sim, you're no longer on the track.

SCGT... This is the one that never will die. I stoped counting available cars when they hit 1000, and I've lost count on tracks a long time ago. An educated guess would be somewhere between 400 and 700 availble tracks made. It has a lousy multiplayer code, but the AI cars can (with a little editing) be really tough. Some of the tracks has better AI than ever was seen in F1C. This one will never leave my harddrive.

Nascar Heat... If you find a better multiplayer code in the universe, please tell me. This one is second to none when it comes to online racing. If you think that the Papy sims have cood multiplayer, you're in for a treat if you try this one. For those that don't like the "turn left, go fast" kind of racing, there is ton's of roadcourse mods for it. The only thing this sim lack is that truckload of roadcourses. Only about 70 roadcourses availble for it, but all the classics are there avialable. Try it, you'll like it

LFS... This is the crown jewel in my collection of sims, and it's not even finished yet. If I could wish for only one thing, it would be that ability to create cars and tracks for it. But for now, I'm more than happy with what's in there. Keep up the Good Work Gentlemen

Why drive only one sim, and why fight over witch one is best? Just drive them and make up your list of favourites like I have. If the sim you drive doesn't make you feel good, stop driving it and remove it from the harddrive. Simple as that.

I got the race manager up and running and most things seem to function, but I need help with one thing. In the track changer, I know how to set the tracks apart from how to tell it to use the reverse version of the track. How?
X-Ter

Could it be third party programs that cause this kind of stuff... I've been trying to set up race manager to work as I want it. So... Yesterday, I didn't run it much and had tons of people on the server all day long. Today I've run it all day long and haven't had a single connection...

Server name www.score.does.it is running. right now, so if anyone care to try if this could be a thing that causes a server to refuse connections, feel free to do so
