The BMW Mini is the same, bottom for gas and top brake/clutch. I much prefer the BWM style gas pedal, much more comfortable.
There is no direct connection between the throttle and the engine in a BWM btw. A computer sits between you and the engine, thats how the TC works etc.
Please no DRM, encryption or other related shite in LFS to protect these files that are ultimatly pointless to protect.
People bitch and moan about the dev speed of LFS.
<sarcasm>Yes, lets add another really pointless feature and slow down dev/testing even further, that would be a great</sarcasm>
Is it REALLY a problem?
Nobody is charging money for their skin/layout so why else would you want the protection? If somebody that believes its required could they give a REAL reason why it is required and why all the dev work to protect them should be done?
Get Rich Burns Rally. Its discontinued now so normally on ebay for in the bargin bin. Was too sim like for many so had crap sales figures and got pulled.
Shame as master piece if you are hardcore sim fan.
Let them exploit. Each new patch just really pisses them off and they dont gain that much per lap. Just enjoy the fact you have more fun as you are driving in a realistic way
You have auto gear change selected. No automatic system will change when YOU want, so if you manually change and have auto it WILL change to the gear it feels you should be in.
Just select manual and do the gears yourself. If you dont have clutch use auto clutch, not auto gears
I still don't understand WHY they need the overhaul. Nobody has explained this yet.
The cars are the cars they are. They represent cars from the 80s, and they are good representations of the era.
What we need is MORE cars not the same cars with a slightly different look but same feel as that would be a pointless waste of dev time. If people are asking for different look and different feel they that would be NEW cars, much better idea
The technique I stated can be used in a modified way, called flatshift. It is not used much due to the damage it causes, mostly just drag racers use it.
For this technique you force the stick out of gear without the help of the clutch and then start to force into gear without the clutch. As you hear the teeth grind you dip the clutch just enough to drop into gear and then quickly release the clutch again. All this is done with your right foor firmly planted all the way down. The time saved is not worth it for the damage though for circuit racers, hence mostly a drag race technique, at least until you get into the BIG power cars with auto transmissions..
I have used H pattern and 3 pedals since I started LFS back in 2003. I started with Actlabs shifter and pedals then moved to G25 when the Actlab shifter bust. I have always driven "properly" even though you could exploit the gear shift system and you could be faster using the exploits.
The benefits of driving right are that each time LFS got more realistic I didn't have to change a single aspect of my driving. The recent clutch update is a good example. In the end I hardly noticed a change, apart from the inertia, while loads around me bitched like hell
A classic worth the fight is "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig. A love it or hate it book that is worth the read if you like to contemplate the different aspects of humanity
I found "Lila" (his second book) too much when I last tried to read it 15+ years ago. Might give a try again soon now I am in the head space to try it again.
Currently reading "Philosophy in the Bedroom" by Marquis de Sade, written in 1795. Makes you realise how little the taboo and hidden side of humanity has changed in 200+ years lol.
The trouble with the current gear option is that its just too flexible. In reality you might pick gears by ratio's but then there will only be a few ratios you can pick.
You will not be able to adjust by 0.0001 steps like LFS. Guess that was more I was getting at. So if they are in ratios it should work on teeth internally and work out the ratio for display, that will give realistic options and steps
Actually it is possible, once moving, to change gears in a car without use of the clutch. You need to be off the gas as you force the car out of gear and then you just need to rev match and the stick will just slot into place.
