Help with Linux (Ubuntu 32bits)

Hello everyone.

Ok, so I downloaded some version of Ubuntu from the official website and I'm trying it out right now. I've already updated it. However, there are plenty of strange things that I just don't get it:

- How come it won't open my nVidia drivers for Ubuntu? File format is .run and it asks me for a program to open it.
- Also, how do I change resolution? My monitor can do up to 1680x1050 but I just can't find anywhere to change resolution from 800x600. Visual effects also don't work. System is running with "None" and I can't enable either "Normal" or "Extra".

I'm posting this from Ubuntu, and, until now, I prefer Windows. Can anyone help me change my mind?

Quote from Shadowww :Can I mirror your installers aswell, please? I think mirror without waiting ~150 seconds on RapidShare or ~50 seconds on MegaUpload without premium account will be better :]

Sure

Quote from Velociround :[...]Also, feel free to mirror these files in your preferred file hosting service. It would be nice to have all download links in the same place though, so if you mirror it somewhere else, please tell me so I can add the links up here. Credits will be given to everyone who mirror the files.

Quote from andRo. :And maybe you should put for the ninth and tenth addon, where to place the files, since some beginners might not know that. I just noticed, it's said in other places, but not there.

If you use the installers you won't need to know where to place the files.

Quote from Lynce :I don't understand (weel) well this part.

He said it should be written in the addons 9 and 10 files (inside a .rar or on .txt) where to install the files.

Quote from Karl Morytz :VERY IMPORTANT NOTE. THIS ADDON IS STILL NOT FINISHED. We are making tests and it is possible that this addon will be modified.
We know well which things to improve. Therefore the suggestions on this addon, today, are not taken into account.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Waiti'n for final version

Just to make it clear: This is only about the 9th and 10th addons: game and car engine sounds addons by Arias.

Quote from Flame CZE :Isnt that feature the car shadows improvement which is done?

No, I don't think so, and I hope not. Car shadows and track shadows are completely different in my opinion. Scawen has mentioned on a recent test patch he would completely redo the track shadowing system at some point, and that's also why I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen, and that's why I said that. (He didn't promise or said he was doing anything though! Please let's not start speculating).

Lynce is always doing awesome and amazing addons.
Congratulations, everything looks perfect.

By the way, the installers are coming!
The full installer is the first one coming, then the separate addons installers. I still have to upload them though.

Quote from The Very End :bring new track

Quote from Scawen :- Improve track shadow rendering

This feature will most likely need a complete redo on all tracks when implemented, and will most likely change the formats of the tracks and many things they have done in the game currently, specially if Scawen changes the shadow format to real-time shadows (which will be necessary to have different weather, 24 hours races with day and night and so on). If there's anything like that in the plans, it'd be better to make tracks after this update, so the new tracks wouldn't need to be edited manually, they would already be created with the new features.

Quote from Furiously-Fast :Oh no, BC have really f'ed this game up:
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gc-09-blur/54661

This has taken a huge step back from PGR. The physics are super arcadey, the graphics have gone back to last gen levels, and don't get me started on the cars.

At the time GT5, Forza 3, DiRT 2 and NFS SHIFT are coming out, Bizarre Creations couldn't have picked a worse time. Looks like a miss here.

LOL! It really, really does remind me of NFS Underground and NFS Underground 2 in almost everything, combined with Nascar Rumble for the PSX because of the things you pick in the track that make strange effects around the car and so on

Quote from Shadowww :You can NOT install Linux on MICROSOFT WINDOWS Virtual PC.

Well, it works. I didn't have time to properly try to install it, but it seems to work until now. Apart from mouse recognition, though.

Which version (preferably free and that doesn't cut out all features) of VMWare could I use to emulate Ubuntu? (this question is directed to anyone who knows the answer, not only Shadowww )

Quote from Shadowww :VMware WorkStation is has much less bugs, VM's works much faster, has almost no limits (8GB RAM per VirtualPC lulz), supports DirectX acceleration inside VM's etc. Use it. :P

What if I install Linux on Windows Virtual PC? Will it work?
I think maybe! Who knows?

Quote from Shadowww :Use VMware Workstation instead of M$ VirtualPC.

I've just tried using Windows XP on Windows 7 on Windows 7, and it didn't work. The virtual PC on Virtual Windows 7 says it couldn't open the virtual machine.
Also, integration features don't work after installing the Virtual Machine update on Virtual Windows 7.
I'm using MS Virtual PC because it's free and it comes on Windows 7.

Here's how I made it:
I installed Virtual Machine that comes with Windows XP, then installed Windows 7 on Windows XP, and that's it, I'm emulating Windows 7 on Windows 7.

Now I'm trying to install Windows Virtual Machine on Windows 7 on Windows 7, so I can emulate Windows XP on Windows 7 on Windows 7.

Quote from chavm481 :can i get a link?

It was a very messed up version with plenty of blur, lots of depth of field and motion blurring effects to simulate NFS Shift... I made it only for that video, sorry but I don't think I'll release it. I will, however, release another version for LFS (not messed up) sometime soon.

Until then, you can download the old version that's on my signature.

Quote from Boris Lozac :That will happen when PC users start buying thier games more..

I've bought every single game I ever installed on my computer. That's why I'm disappointed.
By the way, who said one can't pirate his console games? I bet there are plenty of people who don't pay for their console games too! Actually, I know many of them!

Quote from JJ72 :why does the interior blurs at high speed?

An EA Games spokesman said it's because you shouldn't see the cockpit while racing at high speeds: you should be looking at the track, with all your attention focused at it, and said "this is how real drivers drive". Thus, your cockpit (AND MIRRORS!) are always blurred when you're at high speeds.

That's also why I configured ENBSeries to blur the whole cockpit in LFS on the video I made.

Quote from Boris Lozac :PC version has been delayed for 2010.

Well, as long as it gets to the PC and it is optimized and with better graphics than on the consoles, I don't mind it not coming this year. The only thing I think it's a shame is, people who only play on the PC won't be able to play it as soon as they should.
Game developers should start releasing their games to both PC and consoles at the same time! Come on!

When is it coming to PC?
They better release it for the PC right now or I'm going to get mad at them!

About CryEngine 3:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRWRskYLdno
They removed the whole vegetation from the whole island and then made it all dark and brown thinking people wouldn't notice the difference. They have also reduced view distance to 15 foot. Look how the barrels simply materialize right in front of him in the video.
Moral of the story: Do not try to run Crysis on a console. It doesn't work out well.
PC wins.

I can't believe I didn't notice that
I thought it was a connection problem because I've been having several problems with multiplayer modes in many other games.

Thank you so much for your help.
Only 15 servers on server list

Hello everybody!

Since I changed my ISP from NET Virtua to GVT I can't see most of the servers from the server list anymore. They're just gone, they don't appear on the list. I used to see more than 90 populated servers all day long, but now I only have 15 populated ones and that if I'm lucky. 80% of the empty servers are also gone: I used to have more than 1 thousand empty servers on the list, but now it only shows 200.

Is there any port I could forward to see the other servers? What could be the problem?
I already have ports 29339 and 63392 forwarded both UDP and TCP.

The problem was LFS itself. He hasn't created a new install of LFS since patch U, he's been just upgrading it until the latest official patch through the years (0.5Z), and somehow it may have got messed up, I don't know. Today I sent him a fresh LFS install, and it fixed the problem.

Thanks everyone for your help.
