Thanks for the advice so far

Quote from dadge :if you already have an operating system you could buy this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/ ... duct.php?prodid=FS-020-OP and install your own OS or add £70 to the price and get it with an OS. but ask them to swap out the hard drive for something that doesn't say "green edition" on it.

I don't have an OS yet, though adding it to that one comes to £814 so right on my budget. I will have to have look around some more though that overclockers one does look good. Roll on tax rebate so I can order it lol.

Quote from Seb66 :You can usually get a pre-built £800 Computer for about £550 - £700 if you build it yourself. Just depends how bothered you are on spending more

I don't have a set rule on it, but if it was £500 Vz £800 I would build it, £700 Vz £800 I would buy it. The last PC i bought built, cost me IIRC about £70 compared to the parts so it was worth it. I am open to all ideas but I am just trying to get the best possible PC for my budget.
New PC (Desktop)

Hi all

I am looking at getting a new desktop and looking for some advice. All I am after is a pre built desktop and OS. I know it is cheaper to buy the parts but unless there is a big difference I don't mind paying the extra. I have looked at some of the PC's on the usual sites (PC world, novatech, dell etc.) Something like this or this but I am looking to see if anyone has a better suggestion for a pc.

PC use will be normal office use, photoshop, rbr and lfs with a budget of about £800 preferably but can go higher if something worthwhile.

Thanks for your help, Greboth.

Quote from amp88 :I don't know how many people could honestly say they were happy with the development speed of LFS, but I can honestly say that I'm happy that the people developing LFS aren't happy to release a new patch until it's been written and tested properly.

This x 1000 and I for one am happy to wait for this patch.

Quote from hp999 :A new version is getting ready for the beta testers?
That 'means' something for us!

Ofcourse there is something for us, we just still dont' know when. Just because it might be going to beta testers soon doesn't mean we get it anytime soon. But for now, lets all revel in the fact that we got an update.

I haven’t posted in this thread in a while but I thought I would. Regarding LFS being wasted potential, I don’t think so at all. Yes there is so much potential but so much has already been achieved. People say LFS will die and I don’t think it ever will completely because there will always be new people, thought I could foresee the number of people reducing. Regarding the next patch though, it would be good to see something new, like some updated WIP pictures. However, I don’t feel it is completely necessary as we know what the des are working on so we know (within reason) what the pictures are going to be of. I haven’t played lfs in months and I find some enjoyment for a while when I plug back in but it is soon lost after about an hour of playing. I will play when the new patch comes out to see what it is like, try the new cars/tracks etc but whether it will be ‘new enough’ to re-engage some long term interest I don’t know. If it isn’t, I fear it will be the end of my lfs career really but, I have hope still and only time will tell.

Quote from Kerodal :weird... i think there is probably a ToS of lfs denying using this game to gain personal wealth... or something... dont know...

How is it gaining personal wealth? He is paying for the voucher and the membership to the team so he is loosing out himself. If you mean just the general membership to the team then I don't know, but it isn't unusual for members of a team to pay a few £ here and there for servers etc.

I can't watch the video as I am at work but if this is even only equal to the first it will be a good game. Hopefully though they don't go OTT on it as I really like the simplicity of the mechanics of the first game.

Should we pull out is a difficult question to answer. I truly feel sorry for whoever makes the decisions because, at the moment, whichever route is chosen it will be branded the wrong one. Originally when going to war the were tasks set out to be completed but can they actually be completed. I am not so much talking about removing Saddam from power as much as brining stability in all senses to the middle east. I am not sure that this is possible without a very long occupation. As mentioned previously though, if some sort of stability can be found through the rebuilding of the country, through education etc then hopefully the countries can start on the road to recovery. The problem however comes that the those we are fighting are able to move between countries and can keep planting IED’s etc to disrupt the recovery.

I suppose to ultimate dilemma is do you leave now saving our (UK/USA) lives but throwing the country into further disarray. Or stay, risking the lives of soldiers with the plan and hope that stability can be re-stored. If there is a chance of bringing stability to the middle east then that surely has to be taken? For me I say, don’t pull out because the country would be in a worse state then before and there is still a chance we can succeed.

The question that should be always be asked about this race is how many people are going into the wall at turn 13? If the teams are as close as they were last race again I can see a couple of drivers into the wall trying to push too hard.

Come back to me when 3D TV's without glasses are reasonably priced. It is like anything though, when flat screens first came out they were expensive but as ever get cheaper. Playing some games in full 3D sounds like fun, though I am not sure how well it would work in practice.

I have tried everything I can think of to find them, going into folder optioins and setting everything to visible. It is like they are hidden though, I just don't know how they got that way.
External hard drive - AWOL files?

Hi all

This is a weird query and having googled it, I can find similar situations but not one the same so hoping someone on here might help. I have a 1000gb external HDD, which I took to my sisters as I had some of her documents on it. Bringing it back to my PC though, my documents on aren’t visible anymore. Initially I thought that they got mistakenly deleted while at my sisters, however if I go into the properties, it shows as 900gb full, but if I select all folders/files on the drive it only totals ~500gb. So where is the 400gb (which is about he size of my documents.) As I know the name of some of the files, I tried searching for them but no results came up. I am wondering whether it might be worth getting a data retrieval / restorer programme, but I don’t know whether that will get it all back.

Thanks for any help anyone might give.

Quote from Calzone :I've heard that some people should put their comments on a place where the sun isn't shining

Isn't that somewhere in the Ramtops?

Some people should realised that those speculations on the last page are never ever meant to be realised speculations.

As I have said before n Megan Fox, take each part of her body and she is hot but in my opinion when it is all put together it doesn't work, her looks are not equal to all her parts.

Either way, Transformers 3. Second was not as good as the first, but then I didn't the first was all that. Though that could be due to its non original concept and normal action film story. Will probably watch the 3rd though if the trailer makes it seem decent.

Quote from NightShift :Sadly, LFS is no different, there's plenty of people who will swear it's more realistic than anything else just because they've learnt to race it. The irony is -how you said- most of the time it doesn't even look or sounds like the real thing.

I agree however I would add that for me at least, coming from a real car to lfs that lfs felt the most natural. By this I mean that while the graphics aren't great but the cars behave like I expect them too, more so than other sims. However, this is still slightly biased as I have no idea how GT2/GT1 cars or 1960 f1 cars handle for example.

Agree with the sentiments above. I watched the first series and started watching the second series but if you no plots got closed off just more and more got added which was annoying. Thus, I stopped watching it.

Quote from Bose321 :Exactly, same as I was thinking. If the game quality suffers because of slower computers, I'd say its a shame. Just do it, how 'heavy' are these physics? Can't you do it with a duo core?
Let's be honest, who still has P4 and that junk?

Ive not got a P4 but im only on a 3ghz single core but thats due to not having the need to upgrade since I got it. I still agree though, if moving lfs to the next level means higher spec PC's are needed as long as it isn't too high of a base spec then I would agree and say do it.

Reading the reviews this looks good and I am looking at getting it after pay day I am interested to hear your reviews though as IMO alot of game reviewers gloss over faults. I got a couple of weeks to decide though

Fitting lyrics for now really, such a shame that has happened. RIP Dio and condolences to the family.

That is quite a nice design. However, whoever makes the skin is going to have to make up the lion's head. Have you got a good picture of the bonnet/hood as it shows the full head and would be the easiest to make the logo from

+1.

I expect the normal cars to be quick but qualifying will be interesting as I expecting some 'big names' to be lower than where they should naturally be due to heavy traffic. Going to be interesting to watch whatever though

Whether or not it is actually Marlboro sponsor I have always thought it was. Just because it was (and is?) does not make me want a cigarette though. Everyone is affected by advertising in some way or other so for those who are it is arguable that it is good its been removed. What I do not understand though, Ferrari have been running the barcode since the ban in 2002 (I think) so it has taken them 8 years to realise this?

Wow this thread went very general political and understandable really. Not to carry on the thread but more just to answer Becky.

Quote from Becky Rose :The figures where supplied by research conducted by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the very people who lobbied for this law.
Obligatory Supporting Linky

Sorry, I should of been more specific. I was talking about the actual calculation. I have seen many people point to who calculated it but not the actual calculations done. I am sure though the full reports are probably downloadble somewhere (and probably downloadable illegally - oh the irony). Was the calculation simply the number of illegal downloads multiplied by the cost of the item (be it film, song, picture etc) or was it more in depth to possible find out if anyone who did download something illegally then went and bought it. How did they work out how many illegal downloads had taken place? Would it be counted double if someone downloaded the same thing twice? etc etc. If you know where to find this, can I have the link?

Quote :Because the music and film industry have plowed millions into the personal coffers of MP's and political party election budgets in order to get this bill brought through parliament. They knew that it would never pass as was through parliament and was planned, from before the election was even announced, to be put through in the "wash up" period.

I am not niave enough not to already know this. I can understand the need to protect industry but my 'question' was more of a moan about politicians doing what they want and for the good of them not what 'the people' want or what is best for the country.

Quote :I don't. Pirates will not be even remotely effected by this legislation.

By sort of agreeing I mean that I understand the want to protect the copyrights laws. I know I wouldn't want any of my design work to be stolen and used by someone else. So I agree things need to change to bring the law more upto date, however I agree that this piece of crap bill is not the update needed. This does sound very holier than thou, though I don't mean it to be. I accept that I am very capable of breaching copyright by downloading something without caring too much.
