Quote from beefyman666 :Rivals seems to be working for me. Just beat Greboth's Tsukuba drift thing (badly) and got 100k.

You did WHAT?!?!?! Right boyo this is war :gnasher:

I do like the rivals mode though to some degree it is wrong as I can earn more quicker by doing new ones instead of beating people who have beaten me but there is not so much satisfaction in that.

A quick google didn't answer this and I am work so can't get away with a lengthy google. I am sure I read you can transfer things from fm3 to fm4 but I can't find details of what. Guessing from Rappa Z logo's we made can be, what about bought logo's? Personal paintjobs? Bought paintjobs? cars from our garage?

You can argue all you like about how to measure power consumption but you have to say that either or all review sites are pro intel as they all publish similar power consumption figures or that bulldozer pulls alot of power and when taken in conjunction with performance figures is poor in the performance per watt calculation.

I think that is the highest I have seen in a review but it is still really high. The reviews all give power consumption at stock at around 200W - 250W (and I think the difference comes from quite how the measure it) The end result is still too much power consumption for too little performance unless you are able to take advantage of all 8 cores.

Can you really get the cars that low in forza now or is that an edited screenie? I know it isn't sensible for a track car but would be awesome to get that low for photo shoots

Quote from E.Reiljans :wat.

You do realize that only two of 8-core models draw 125W, every other ones (eight-core 8120/8100, six core 6120/6100 and quad core 4120/4100) are 95W just like i5 2500K / i7 2600K?

Quote from Shotglass :its about performance per watt... and bulldozer quite simply sucks in terms of that

Quote from hazaky :Prove him wrong instead of acting like u know better then.

Like this

Yes Bulldozer is 8 core (though it is actually 4 modules each of 2 cores which slows the chip down apparently, I haven't read too much on this though so I can't comment on it) so the power draw will be high. I expected it to be higher than sandybridge but as shotglass said it's performance per watt. If it was twice as fast a sandybridge cpu and pulled twice the power the high power consumption would be annoying but acceptable due to the performance but it isn't faster so the power draw is too high. I also mentioned the overclocked power consumption, 2600k i7 clocks higher, has a higher clock for clock performance and has lower power consumption. Bulldozer clocks higher than Phenom but also draw more power.

There just seems to be so little reason to buy bulldozer as for the general consumer you will end up spending most of the time drawing more power for less processing power and the times where bulldozer is quicker than sandybridge wont make up for it. Obviously there are exceptions as some people can make use of 8 cores (virtual machines, rendering, video encoding etc) but these people aren't average joe on the street.

Hopefully through some driver fixing (seen snipets about schedulers in windows 8, again though haven't read much into it) bulldozer can be more competitive but being a new process also, hopefully later iterations (i.e. Piledriver) will be better as we need competition in the cpu market. Luckily for us amd are still doing well in the gpu market so they should be around for sometime to come.

If you already have an am3+ board maybe but otherwise what is the point. I have always liked amd as their performance per £ has always been good, especially taking into account motherboard prices too. Bulldozer though doesn't really cut it against sandybridge especially when you take into overclocks, the power draw of bulldozer is stupid. With Sandybridge-E round the corner it seems its another nail in the coffin of a higher performance amd cpu

From the outside ofcourse it isn't going to be innovative. Even if it they cracked nuclear fusion for power generation the outside in the (not) ground breaking headline of the year it is still going to look like a plane.

I know your response was in relation the all in one cooler but I was distinguishing between those and custom watercooling. Yes you can cool some graphics cards with minimal number of fans and minimal airflow you have to treat it on a like for like basis. That is why I used the gtx 470 (And 480's) as I know what temps they reach on air and water.

Can you keep your fans that low during gaming or is that only during idle periods / internet browsing etc? This isn't me being a cock I am interested to know. Though idle temps aren't the best comparisson, load temps are.

Using the example I know, I used to run 200m front fan, 230mm side fan, 230 top fan and 140mm rear fan and 120mm pointed at gpu to help air flow. Cooling cpu with a corsair h50 (amd 1090t o/c to 3.8ghz) and gtx 470 on air. CPU idle used to be mid 30's, load high 40's low 50's C - reasonable temperatures and matchable by air no arguments. Graphics card though with fans turned down used to idle ~40C and load even with fans on max hit high 80's low 90's (highest I ever saw it hit was 98C in the summer) thats with the standard heat sink fan at 100% and it sounded like plane taking off. Now with 2 fans on rad cooling cpu and gpu I get idle temps of cpu 24C and gpu 30C, load temps with all fans at 600rpm (durnig gaming when both are used, I don't have a program to stress gpu) cpu hits 35C - 36C max and I can't remember a time of graphics card going above 45C. I used to have 3 radiator fans running 1000rpm to keep those temps but recent change in set up means I can keep fans 600rpm. I am sure I could go lower but any lower on my fan controller and my fans wont spin.

So no one can argue that watercooling has it's downsides - space taken up by pumps, res, rad, having to have a bigger case etc, the cost but when it comes to the higher end gaming pc's air cooling simply cannot keep cpu and gpu temps and noise down the same level as a well built custom loop.

Not on my phone now so I can read this thread properly. Firstly I would say it is a good idea to distinguish between the all-in-one watercoolers (Corsair HXX range, Antec Kuhler etc) and custom watercooling.

Quote from E.Reiljans :Watercooling is about quietness, not about performance*

*note how in real life scenarios watercooling is inferior to air cooling in every single way.

Really don't know how to take this. All in one watercoolers are only about as good as the top end air coolers in terms of temps. Where they really shine is in things like htpc's where there isn't room for a giant tower cooler. Custom watercooling can be about both though, if you go for the silent end of watercooling you will get good performance (usually better than air on cpu and big temp drops on gpu's compared to air) or the other end is pure performance where nothing on air will get close.

Quote from Bose321 :I'm sure you can get better temps with a proper air cooled heatsink and still have less noise. My CPU is passively cooled and runs cooler then that and I doubt it makes more noise then those stock cheap fans.

Quote from e2mustang :my cooler has the silencer fan on it.baerly makes any noise, like you have to put your ear next to to hear something. i am very pleased with it(acrtic cooling freezer 13,limited edition) so there goes your performance and noise theory

Better than what? See above. Also again as above cpu wise they are running cooler than ever especiall with intel's speedstep and amd's cool and quiet. Gpu's though are another matter though. Look at the gtx 470's and 480' it isn't unusual to see 90C on them under load. Now you can replace them with aftermarket coolers that keep the cards double slot or even go up to triple slot but then they leave the hot air in the case (meaning you need good case fans) or they exhaust at the back and I am yet to find a quiet cooler that does this.

Quote from e2mustang :note you dont need to stress test for 24 h

Generally agreed to say an overclock is as close as anyone can say to truely stable is run a stress for 24 hours.

And for reference, I have custom watercooling and for browsing internet or watching films I can have 3 120mm fans running at 600rpm (1 blowing air over motherboard heat sinks and two on my radiator) and when it comes to gaming I run all my fans at 600rpm and cpu temp hits about 33C 34C and gpu (Gtx 470) never goes above 45C even in the summer. Even gaming the noisest part of my computer is my hdd's as I said above.

It is all horses for courses really and depends what level of cooling you want and for what noise level. Personally as my pc is used for gaming and htpc duties and I hate the sound of gpu cooler custom watercooling makes sense and I can justify the price. Many other people don't mind, don't care or don't want to spend the money and I totally see where they come from.

For cpu cooling I agree with you to some degree, for some heavily overclocked cpu's watercooling still wins. On the other hand through gpu cooling still makes alot of sense. You do get some pump noise but if you mount it properly to reduce vibrations then the loudest part of the computer becomes the hdds and even more noticable when spinning up. Though it is nice being able to cool everything with fans at 600rpm

How good is your laptop at playing iracing, f1 2011, battlefield? encoding videos, rendering 3ds max scenes, running photoshop etc etc. People may play lfs on powerful rigd but the rigs are powerful for other reasons.

nice set up though, suprised you only got a 6870 with the rest, get a 69xx would be perfect

Mine sort of looks like that now, though I noticed seems its got not hdd's. Edit: Have you got a link to the build? Would be interested to know how the pump is mounted under the res.

@HarryGillman: You don't need a high spec pc to play lfs, I think most people on here, like myself, have good pc's for other games and means lfs runs as super fps speeds

Quote from E.Reiljans :It's impossible to polish a turd.

I don't know, I have never tried too so I am unable to comment. It is always nice to know someone has tried something different to myself though and while I occasionally repeat other peoples mistakes I am open for any tips you can give me.

This page was going so well too with a nice discussion on positive and negative aspects of cod but there is always one, oh well.

@John5200: Some good points there, I suppose the flipside of the coin is if you were running a game company and you could get away with changing a little bit but knowing it would sell millions and millions of copies, would you? There will always be the line of change too much alienate the fans, change too little and the fans stagnate and leave. This line could be drawn a different way for everyone as I suspect it would be so where, as a producer, do you draw it. I know two things I wish for is an updated graphics (either an entirely new engine or the next evolution of the current one) and some more destructive scenery, not necessarily to the levels on bf but enough to be to take down a camper through a wall.

Edit: I have seen 4 chans comments on the lack of dinosaurs in cod but I didnt know about thr one in the bf video. Seems a random thing to put in there unless they were referancing 4chan, good to see them having a laugh about things. Im off to find the video.

Note sure if you are being sarcastic there or not Bose.

I wrote a long things out here but I see where you are coming from, it would be nice if they used a new engine. Something to polish the graphics that bit more, higher poly counts, higher res textures etc. Past that I don't really know what they could do. Personally speaking, for the reasons I said above, I don't want them to move cod towards realism as I like cod for it not being realistic.

I have just come back from a week away for work and in the evening as there isn't much to do 2 or 3 of us were messing around playing cod. It was a laugh and something fun to do but it wouldn't of worked if were playing something like battlefield.

Agree with you tbh sinbad. COD is just a pick up and play run and gun fps, if I want a challenge I will play BF. Anology I have made before is BF is lfs and COD is burnout, both involve guns (or cars) but they are different games in terms of game play. Then again it is now the in thing to bash cod. You say do something new but what can they really change? Yes they release new games which some slight changes and a new story but every series does, I don't know any successful series that have suddenly made a big change.

For refernce, I am getting bf3 for pc on release and mw3 for xbox on release too.

Still working my way through this but I am loving it. I haven't killed anyone yet in the game, not sure how you can take down the 'bosses' without killing them, guess I will find out when I get there. Deus Ex is the first game in a while which I am annoyed about going to work because I want to play some more.

Very true, thinking about it some more I should of said if Petrov performance clause is to do more with the money than the racing (though I would suspect they would have something about that in there too incase he is really slow.) I was thinking along the lines of Heidfeld saying Petrov should of been kicked not him. Though I think it will be tough for Renault as I would think they either need to prove Heidfeld was taken on as a replacement for how well Kubica would do or, as you said, prove the Petrov is rubbish and so isn't comparible.

If Petrov is only at Renault for the money he brings to the team then it could even be possible he has no performance clause in his contract. It would of been very clever to do as then any other driver, in this case Heidfeld, could be taken on with a performance clause and then fired if he doesn't meet it even if Petrov does worse because Renault can't fire Petrov.

Heidfeld hasn't done as well as I thought he would but then again the Renault hasn't been as quick as expected either. Also I think Heidfield is a good development driver but I think they are only putting Senna in the car due to the sponsorship money he is bringing. Though flipside it will be interesting to see how Senna does in a car that isn't so slow he always comes at the back.

Hello,

Was talking to some people at work about pre-ordering these and which people are getting so I thought I would see which way lfs-f is leaning.

Personally I have pre-oder cod for xbox and BF3 for pc, BF3 is like LFS for me - its fun because it is hard and needs concentration where as COD is more the sit down and play, have a laugh without too much though. Both fun for differen reasons.

I lol'd at the another number plate, another number plate, he definately wants 6 points. What has and always will seem stupid to me is that on some parts of some motorways you can use the lane in rush hour so how does it work then

Edit: Forgot about the mini woman - book her for not wearing her seat belt too (though might have to complain then about him walking up and down a motorway but shhhhh hes not being a cnut)
