You know what? I really need to thank you~! All it took was 5 minutes of searching, and I think I save rendering a screen. I discovered something that I might have overlooked a few weeks ago when changing to multi Again, I'd need to test if this works on my rig first. Try it!

Anyways, back to LFS. I'll describe to you the problems with LFS, and things we can do:

a) SoftTH. I describe to you the problems using SoftTH, and what I do to resolve it. Then:

b) They call it 'Adjustable FOV'.
I still have to test if it works. I'll follow it up when I have to the time to test it out myself. I'm quite sure it works though.

What our problem was with dual screen displays in LFS, was that after setting our resolutions (my case 2 1024 x 768) to 2048 x 768, was that, as usual, the wheel was set in the center. Now, this wouldn't be a problem if I had only one screen. The wheel would be dead on in the center. However, with CRTs, we have this thing called bezel, which from context of reading previous posts, is that plastic-ie thing at the edge of each monitor. Thus, my wheel would have a 11" wheel would have a diameter of 11" from top to bottom, but have a diameter of 13 - 14" at the side (visually).

Look here:
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4115/monitor2mj7.jpg

When we try to fix this, we'd normally try to shift the view over, or the FOV over, so that the wheel would be on one side. However, we'd be viewing everything on an angle, as seen here:

http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/5271/monitor1ao6.jpg

(Credits to:Mcintyrej from http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=41869) You can look there.

Solution 1) SoftTH (I have NO knowledge of TH2Go). Typically you'd be running 3 monitors here. The center monitor (primary) would display the focus of what you'd want to see, typically the wheel, as such. The remaining left and right monitors act as secondary monitors. As suggested, they show what is secondary to what information is viewed and given. In a dual monitor setup, and in a left - wheel positioned car, the left monitor would act as the primary, and the right would act as the single secondary, displaying the remainder of the interior. Anyways, this is what is generally done, and what I do. You may choose to do this the other way, such that the right is secondary, and left is looking out the window. Vice-versa applies here, where you are driving on the right, and respective monitor roles are reversed.

A problem found here, is setting up the config file for SoftTH. Generally, after downloading the RAR file off the SoftTH website found here:

http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/

you would extract the files and Copy & Paste the selected files as stated in the Readme into the LFS root folder. Then you would simply state what resolutions are used into the bottom of the cfg. file. In a triple screen setup, you should be able to double click LFS, and you basically configure inside LFS, and you would be gripping, racing, drifting, crashing, or goofing off. However, if in a double screen setup, you would need to setup which screen is which (actually in a triple screen, you would too, but a bit easier). For me:
Left Screen has ID #2, thus for "DeviceIDright=" I'd have 1 there, as my right screen ID is 1. For my leftscreen, which I currently don't have connected, I've set "DeviceIDleft=-1". It should be rather straight forward, but it was a jack-@ss for me to setup, as I had no previous knowledge of this. You'd also need to set the perameters beneath it. I forgot to set those, and I always received errors. There is a forum at
http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/ , so if you are interested, and you have a problem, you can consult them.
After that, it is simply setting the right options such as setting the driver to "[Insert Card model here] with SoftTH" inside LFS, and setting the correct resolution which is found by "[(Width of secondary monitor) x 2 + (Width of primary monitor)] (x) height". I am not sure how the height works if they are different; I guess you'd utilize the greatest height of the monitors. Typically you'd have secondary monitors with the same resolution, (I think you have to, as it is forced in the CFG.). I'm putting brackets around x, because it is crucial for you to know that they should be seperate, as resolution is simply width x height =D.

Example: For me, I have (3) monitors @ 1024 x 768, thus "1024 x 2 + 1024 (x) 768 = 2048 +1024 (x) 768 = 3072 x 768. Then you'd need to add bordersize, but I would talk about that at another time, at which I don't even know if you are interested 100% in a dual monitor solution. Anyways, it is rather easy after reading the Readme.

Solution 2: Adjusting FOV. http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=31026 There was a suggestion with an adjustable FOV, which was virtual still right now. Basically with this setup, Copy & Paste into root, I guess, and adjust the config. file. Should be straight forward. Haven't tried it yet. You should trust the people who created this, rather than me, as I am still a Demo, right? They have been here for a long time, rather than me being only active for like 3 - 4 days =D.

Hope you luck. I'd only wish that you can finish reading this post without falling asleep :sleep1:.

Haha, good luck, GenesisX

Option 1:

I've heard people have been able to do so with G25 pedals on a DFP, and similarly on the DFGT. But what I remember, which I hope I recall accurately, is that the pedals have to re-wired using the DFP/DFGT Pedal wires, and into their respective wheels. Obviously, I doubt the clutch would work in this case. I think the difference, however, of the wheels (DFP/DFGT and G25 pedals) is one prong. If you can get that working, that's great. The Momo and DFP share a common wheel, thus plug, am I correct? So this should apply to you also.

You may be able to 'simply' (not simple for me!) wire the pedals into the PCB of the wheel.

Option 2:

What I'd recommend you do if you have a G25 set of pedals lying around is to get a "G25 Pedal Plug" (don't recall plug name ) to USB connector. They run for around $30, but you may get them for less; I don't know. You basically plug the G25 pedals into the PC, and it acting as its own 'independent' controller. You should be thankful that LFS supports more than one controller. In fact, I should too!

Option 3: Why don't you go buy other pedals? I'm quite sure that you can get such pedals as the sweet Ferrari pedals. Forgot the names, but they are so - called sweet. I'm not sure if they'd work independently without a set of Ferrari wheels though! If I recall correctly, there should also be an independent Actlab Clutch or if not pedals. You can do research on this.

Question out of curiousity: Do you actually own a(n) (extra) set of G25 pedals? That'd be sweet. They aren't the best, but it'd be comparing chocolate and sh*t with my DFGT pedals!

Hope you have the best of luck, and I hope that I've helped you!

Up to date, there are... like 2 drift servers in Demo. Ofc, there used to be like 3, 4 , or even five, when LFS had like 100+ servers running just for demo. Anyways, I wanted to approach another server, with a goal of meeting different people, and seeing different techniques and styles.

So yesterday, I was more than relieved to see the ACTUAL LINUX DRIFT back in action. However, whenever I tried to join, it would finish downloading the skins, or attempt to anyways, and leave me in this
'Queue position'.

Is this a sign that I've been banned from it; I did go there numerous times months before this, but I don't recall causing some, if any problems with the people there.

Is this a connection problem? After 4 or 5 minutes, a box would pop up stating 'Did not receive OK'. I'd see this several times on other servers, but I'd try entering the server again with no problem. Does this mean that some problem has arised?

Thanks! Hope for reply soon Big grin

Sure... I'll post one tonight. I can't seem to push it over ~1:41 while drifting the XRG. However, I am never good at gripping the XFG anyways. I guess I need to get good at both; may help me drift faster too.

there are motherboards and/or chipsets that can use anything, but need careful configuration (DFI lanparty)

there are motherboards that don't care much.

i've always bought very cheap ram and i haven't had a problem in 10 years of computoring.

meh

whatever

Ooooooooohhh... Just making sure. I did state that they are in the low power consumption level. But that still doesn't make them faster, does it?

Basically... but that's taking into account that you get lucky. You may get away seldomly with cheap ram, but to be sure, you'd want to stick with QUALITY RAM. RAM doesn't cost that much these days, especially for DDR2. C'mon, I don't have a job... they must be cheap =D

There will always be yields of stuff like this. You may run into a crappy piece of electronic. Who knows?

EDIT: What you can easily do is attach your Wingman steering wheel into your PC alongside your momo, and just use the Wingman pedals, and set the alternate wheel aside. Easy. You have an extra wheel, and pedal, which makes this easy.
This is a bit messier, but clean it up, and it won't be such a problem.

DIY: Sadly I don't have the experience, knowledge, skills, or the material to make a DIY. I might be able to build myself an h-Shifter, when my dad gets hold of a router, at which I ask for his assistance. People have repeated this many times, however. Search on google. Take a look at the forums at RSC. I'm actually gonna do a bit more research. I've left it pending when I left for vacation 2 months ago, I believe.

My preliminary drawings are still in the works.

DIY will be cleaner, you will learn something provided you are starting out fresh like myself, but you should have time in mind. I just hope I have time left to do the job, and get my S2s. I have to get them tmr, and be in time for Scirocco!

thank you to you guys how are willing to take the time and type of a simple but efective summary

sorry for any confusion

I've had the same problem too. However, I've found a method. This may not apply to you, but it does to me.

Anyways, I discovered that I cannot read in front of the monitor, as it looks like jarble - garble, and whatever. This is what happened to me when I was like 10 years old, trying to read ground school material in FS9. So last year I printed it all out, and read it as a bed time story. Amazingly enough, I read everything from the beginning to the PPL section of it. Afterwards, was all de-briefs.

I did this with the Advanced Setup Guide, which I have beside me, with my reading lamp on right now. I can use it at anytime. However, after reading it once, I've lost interest of reading it again. I should however, because it IS rich material. I suggest you to read it.

All I have to do now, is get books on car setup...

Try it out; I hope it helps you. If it doesn't, don't flame me for being environmental unfriendly

Using only LFS, and forcing it to run at your combined multi monitor resolution will look funny. You'll have the wheel in between the bezels on the two monitors. If you are, it is better if you use LCD monitors.

However, a solution is to use Triplehead2Go, or if you can't get that, then you can use SoftTH, which is my multi - monitor solution. This way, you'll be able to get your wheel on the 'primary' screen, and the rest on the other screens. I can link you to screenshots of the differences. However, because of this switch, I had to switch to drive on the left side, from the right. It was just easier to configure the cfg. in the softTH.

It is good to note however that using SoftTH, you will be rendering the conventional 3 screens (it was designed to use 3 screens 'SoftTripleHead?'), but displaying 2 screens, in your case (and my case). At any given time, you can attach a third monitor, and you are set. If you want, I can upload you my configuration for the dual monitor LFS setup. It is rather simple, but you will have to manually set the resolutions for your monitors; I am using 2 CRT monitors, that I picked out in my basement. I didn't want to multi screen a CRT with an LCD, with different resolutions 1440 x 900 + 1024 x 768, will look weird, which I'd get 3488 x 900 or something.

You should do some research. I am totally horrible at explaining, but I hope I've given you a general idea; that you can run LFS on 2 monitors.

Note:You should have a decent video card though. I dropped from my usual ~90- ish frames (I think I had vSync on, so could be more), to around 40 - 50 frames per second. This is a 7600GT running @ 3072 x 768, thus, if you are running multi screen on something like a 8800GT or something, regardless of your resolution, you should be fine.

Note2: For setting up SoftTH, search it on google, and simply follow the Readme. It's a simple Copy & Paste thing.

Good Luck, GenesisX

I don't really know how'd you classify FM2 as an arcade game. It may be one of the real-est (word?) racing sims for 360. Again, I wouldn't know the 360 game line up.

Anyways... Chances are that GT5 will have amazing physics, given that developers at polyphony harness the power of the Cell, but who am I to talk about? But at this point, with the amazing processing powers of both consoles (you see, I am using the word 'both', not all... ), the physics won't be too way off, ofc unless these sims were designed to run on the *hemwiihem*, then I'd jump right back onto my PS2, running GT4.

No offense to Nintendo Fanboys; I like how they took a totally different approached, but priced at like $250... c'mon. A 7 year old Gamecube, with CPU / GPUs built on smaller fab. processes, a new looking chassis, wLan capable, and bluetooth, or whatever those weird looking remotes are running off...
I gotta get myself some fire extinguishers - Haha, I'm ready for the flames =D

Please don't take personally guys, my personal views for the Wii...

Anyways, we'll know how good the two will be. Hmmm... Maybe I should get a PSThree (LOL), and GT5. Attach my DFGT, and away I go!

Quote from Bob Smith :Increasing rear spring stiffness should give oversteer, not understeer.

I assume you are referring to Ns/mm. Dampers produce force in relation to motion, since there is no SI unit for speed, we just use distance over time (m/s, or in this case, mm/s). Hence the gradient of the damper velocity-force graph is N/mm/s, which can be more neatly written Ns/mm.

So long as you don't make a habit of it, or the time between posts is long enough.

First off, thank you for the quick reply! I really appreciate you explaining this stuff to me. I find myself baffled from looking at alien units that I have never seen before, like rad/s, or m/s, in such context.

Anyways:
I am starting to understand a bit more of the physics involved in racing, given that I know the result of an input, such as increasing stiffness on a rear spring will induce oversteer, not understeer.

Things like this help me develop a 'model' as I'd like to say it, and it should help me further learn about suspension tuning, as such. - I can't wait to take physics in gr. 11.

Anyways, I've gotten much what I want. I've gotten VHPA to do most of the work for me. I have gotten my suspension setups to do what I want. I dropped my previous approach. The XRG currently has virtually no over/understeer at corner entry or exit without throttle. - My approach for a neutral handling setup.

I've gotten the car to this point using dampers, as I found more convenient. Then I utilized my spring stiffness to 'complement' the setup. Basically, I have the damping ratios at near 100%, with 98.6% on the left side (rebound). Then, I used the sway bar stiffness to adjust my suspensions overall handling, which I set to a tad oversteer, as my tyre pressure settings cause understeer. Overall, this setup is what I wanted. Maybe because before, my car would feel extremely bumpy, and unstable caused by my bad damper settings, they feel great now. However, it can simply a placebo effect, which screws me up a lot, as my driving is really unstable.

*I've raised the ride height by my default settings by 10mm, to be on the safe side. This is using my previous approach for ride height. I can seldomly see my suspension bottoming out if I jump a bump too aggressively for example, which rarely happens.

My next goal is to get good camber settings, and then work towards the toe - in / out settings. I've still got to finish off my drivetrain setup, but generally I am kind of pleased with it, for BL1. I can get it to get the tail out full throttle in 2nd gear for T1, and gear 3 with throttle control the rest of it. Max speed, I can do about 190 - ish. EDIT: I'm planning to increasing my final drive setting, and make the indiv. gear settings closer so that the RPM after up-shifter is closer to 51-200 rather than 4900. I think that'd be a bit better for acceleration... Do you think this will work? Also, I'm also using a locked differential. I feel a bit more torque at the wheels when I throw the tail out. However, if someone can help me an optimal clutched - based setting, I'd prefer to use that instead.

Can you guys give me some feedback? Also, is there a reliable method for tuning dampers, or the suspension in general, without the help of VHPA. I don't want to rely on it for the remainder of my LFS career. How do you know if the dampers are actually 'damping' out the forces put upon it in one motion, or in multiple ones without testing multiple times. Is there math that I can do just to figure this out? How does VHPA do it?

The setup is attached at the bottom as you can all probably see... I hope!

Damn, I am so pissed @ nVidia. They've been rebadging GPUs for like 3 generations now. It sucks. "Hey, let's rebadge GPUs so some stupid retard comes and buys an 8800GTS 3 ****ing times?"

LOL. Look at the generations that they've used G92 for. Like 3! The GTS250 is G92 based card right? If that is true,

-8800GT / GTS
-9800GT /GTX /GTX+
-GTS250 / GT whatever whatever...

Oh yeah, how about the 8800GS?

- 9600GSO.. They've been changing everything so many times, that it isn't funny. 384 mb / 512 / 768 mb variants, 48 / 96 SP , 192 - bit, 256 bit respectively...

However, the G92 did own such the 8800GT and GTS, and GX2! I love the fact that they are lowering manufacturing processes from 65, to 55, and maybe even 45 later on if they bring it into a 4th generation (GTX3)... But can't nVidia be a bit more creative? New cores?

"If you hate nVidia so much, then don't buy their cards!"

Don't worry, I'm going for ATi now... Maybe later

EDIT: Woops, looked at date of last post... sorry for grave - digging...

Quote from Shadowww :Eh, mine 9800GT worked fine on 350W PSU. Core i7 system with GTX 295 doesn't needs more than 600W. It's just marketing, so PSU manufacturers can sell more shit.

Not necessarily. Some PSUs actually suck, and create a lot of heat. If it is not efficient, you may need like 1000W to do something that a high quality 500W could do. They don't want to get in shit for posting wrong requirements.

Imagine someone trying to run LFS on a Pentium 2, and some crappy 3 Accel card because the devs said it would work (but at minimum resolutions and detail)?

But I can imagine the video card manufacturers and PSU vendors trying to work together to earn some extra money.

BTW, I've seen people running 8800GTs (65nm) in a conventional C2D rig with a minimal 350W PSU. It is possible, but you'd always want some extra juice, just in case. You don't wanna bring a $300 card (hey, it costed that much back then =D) down with a PSU that you paid $15 off eBay for. Kinda like going on the highway with some crappy old Civic that has like 60HP at 5000 RPM. You won't have the juice to overtake people to change lanes... Kinda dangerous if you think about it...

EDIT: Sorry for replying to original question. If your PC could run with an original 9800GT, and not with this one which uses less power, then chances are either your PSU can damaged (maybe when you removed it without grounding yourself), or that your current 9800GT is a lemon.

If it works in your dad's computer, then maybe your PSU is damaged. If that is not the problem, and you try maybe a video card that uses more power than your current GPU (green 9800gt), and it works, then it can be your PCs drivers.

Do a full reformat to be safe, even though I can't see same GPUs from different vendors using different drivers. Is your PC PCIe 2.0 / 1.1 capable. Is it possible that your old GPU got a BIOS flash to run on PCIe 1.0, and your current one isn't, thus compatiability issues?

I have no clue what you guys are talking about; VIA better than Intel... That's kind of like saying Matrox is better than nVidia... Don't you think?
That maybe true in the low - power netbook CPU level, but not in the enthusiast high end level.

Anyways, about your RAM question. I believe SDRAM DDR2 Is the same as DDR2, but different wording. Kinda like DDR2-6400 or DDR2 rated @ 800 mhz, i guess.

Anyways, the ram that you stated wasn't designed to work in you Foxtrot motherboard. Why?

I forgot the real reason but anyways, PC-6400 (DDR2) RAM runs at 800 mhz, as stated above. Your motherboard manual, or the specs on the website state that you can only run RAM running @ 667 mhz max.

Thus, you can always test it out. Sometimes things work on things that weren't designed to do so... like gaming on an EEE PC

Any RAM that is to run at default at 400 / 533 / 667 should work on your motherboard as it was designed to. One that runs at 800 MIGHT work, but I suggest you get one that runs @ 667 (as stated on MOBO spec. QUALITY RAM IS BETTER THOUGH. Instead of getting no name OEM RAM, get like Corsair, OCZ, or brand - name RAM They are generally more reliable, and that is what you want for a PC!

To sum it up. Yes, any DDR2 RAM will fit in a DDR2 So-dimm, provided that they are for a desktop (laptop is a different story) - because all DDR2 (desktop) RAM have the same number of pins. However, use ONLY RAM THAT IS STATED TO WORK FOR YOUR DESIGNATED MOBO!!!

EDIT: Sorry if this is confusing... =D

It shouldn't be a problem going around t1 in second gear. I've been doing it for a while in second gear... (default_XRG setup). It is actually easier. And what I've found is that sometimes I am at the redline, and my wheels aren't spinning enough. Because of this, I had to play around with my 2nd gear indiv. gear ratio.

However, the XRG is a good car to drive around BL1 with... that's for sure!

But in our stories, there aren't any CPUs (multi - core anyways) that is prebuilt that come @ stock 5 ghz. Thus he either lied or mistyped, or needs to get facts straight. Such, my CPU is running @ 3.1 ghz, which isn't 3.1 ghz per core or 6.2 in total, but actually 3.1 ghz, which is 1.55 ghz per core.

Its really self preference. I love 2 CRTs in front of my face. I actually upgraded from a Samsung 230BW or something, which was a good old 19" widescreen. However, I live the fact that I have 2 fine CRTs that do the job. I have loads of space in the basement too.

The older Celeron Ds that have enormous clocks are crap, whilst the older ones are basically C2D with a core disabled and half a megabyte of L2 cache. Basically a Pentium Dual Core (NOT a PD) with a core removed or disabled. These ones can overclock good too. Because of its efficient architechure, I'd say at stock 1.6 ghz speeds, it can kill a 3 ghz Celeron D of the older models. Overclock it to 3 ghz, and it will run LFS as if there was no tomorrow.

- AMD Athlon™ 64FX, Athlon™ 64X2, Athlon™ 64, Sempron™ processors, Socket AM2
- 2000 MT/s HyperTransport™
- Dual channel DDR2 800 / 667 x2 DIMMs, Max 2GB
- 1 X PCIe x16******, 2 x PCIe x1, 3 x PCI
- IDE x 2 + Serial ATA x 2 w/ RAID 0, 1, JBOD
- 5.1 channel, Realtek (AC’97)
- 10/100M LAN
- 8 USB 2.0 ports

There is a PCIe Port, or did you guys change websites? In any case, good AGP cards are still coming out, like 4650, and 3870, both noctorious cards. You can still get good cards that run LFS, such as cards from the X1 Series. An X1300 would probably run LFS easy. X1900s should do it no problem FOR SURE.

EDIT: Never mind, saw it. Forget the top part of it. The newer Celerons probably won't run on this motherboard without a flash of a new BIOS. In any case, these older Intel CPUs are based off the same architechure, Netburst variants, if I am correct. At least the 'newer' Pentium 4s, contrary to one in my old 478 P4s, can overclock. If good, you should be able to get a 3 Ghz to Pentium 4 well past its 4 Ghz barrier. Nevertheless, with the given CPUs, you would probably bottleneck a good GPU anyways. If you are getting a 3850, remember to push the CPU all the way. In this case, a Pentium D is your best bet. You won't be getting much outta the sucker though, unless you push the clock inevitably high. That would be the only way of avoiding bottlenecking (hmm... the 3850, not 4850 =/) and playing GTA4, at such speeds.

EDIT 2: If you are running LFS, you can probably pick up any old AGP GPU and leave the CPU at stock. As long as the GPU isn't like an ATi Rage 128, or something.

Man! They have everything! GT5... Well damage, is about time. I mean FM1 had damage. The PS3, with such processing power, should have done it no problem!

Look at the list. They have everything. I might just get a PS3 for this!
