Hm, according to netmarketshare, perhaps. But as Bean0 pointed out earlier in this thread; XP usage is down to about 7% percent according to Valve. Who probably has a better representation of gamers' PC rigs than any other source.
(You can click on the "Windows Version" row to expand it.)
I'm not saying that LFS should drop XP support. I just don't want to see crazy figures in this thread.
Edit: you mean this (referring to this). I seriously doubt that's the "real" Scawen. If the LFS devs were active in social medias surely they'd let us know officially with a link on the front page of lfs.net, for example.
Edit 2: According to Flame it actually is Scawen. Well then that's awesome news and I stand corrected!
For the others reading this thread: Turns out IPwnYourAssOff is using a 4G Mobile Broadband.
In my experience, it's very hard to make a mobile data connection stable enough for flawless online gaming. Granted, there are some things you can try:
Try different placements of the Modem or Router
Switch from 4G to 3G
Try different MTU settings (but that might make things even worse!).
That's my take on the problem.
Perhaps someone else has overcome stability issues with mobile broadband and can think of something I left out?
Are you sure it says "världen" (the world)? I bet it actually says "värden" (the host)
Anyho,
I noticed that you've been online at "layout test" for quite a while now. Is that a server that you are hosting locally or is it a remote server?
I don't think pingtest.net won't be of much help since I think it only measures ping response times. The stability of your connection is more interesting.
To start off, I'd suggest the following.
Before you start LFS, bring up a command prompt and type:
ping -t google.se
The -t switch will keep the ping loop running continuously, so while it's still running, start LFS and connect to a remote host. Should the connection fail, quit/alt-tab out of LFS and have a look at the output of the ping command (also scroll up a bit and look at the previous messages). Is it displaying response times or error messages?
If everything is looking fine in the ping output, something weird is going on with LFS or the connection to the particular host you were connected to.
If the ping command also fails, something is most likely wrong with the connection to your router or the router's connection to the internet.
The postcards (although they are tiny) over at lfs shop are both candidates I guess. Perhaps Vic would be willing to print a few A2/A1's if he gets enough pre-orders.
Hehe, yeah i know! I did read about this back in December when Scawen started working on the project but I never got to try it out until now.
I figured i'ts good for all of us to let him know that this version of the dedicated host is appreciated!
Did someone figure out if it's possible to entirely disable sound in wine though? To get rid of the error message at startup time and perhaps save a few Ks of memory?
Thank you for this. It's to be able to put all your servers in screen and to be able to see what's going on in real time without having to tail output files.
I will be using this (until there is a native linux version, hehe!)
OpenELEC seems to have scratched APT for some reason, so if trying different applications is something you'd like to do XBian is probably a better choice since you can install stuff with a package manager thater than compiling yourself (which takes a loooong time on the RPi).
I use my RPi for XBMC only.I did try some Desktop tasks in Raspian but the device is just a tad too underpowered to make it worth while.
Edit: Not sure where you guys are going with the RDP/VNC discussion. Neither is fast enough for video even on LAN (use smb/nfs for that!), and since basically any x86-x64 machine is more powerful I dont understand why you'd want the RPi to run the process in the first place.
Posting in this thread is my only reaction to the "events". Some High School students got angry at another student because of name calling on the Internet. BS, IMO. It's not exactly at par with the protests 10 years ago.
GP.se is probably the most respected local morning paper in case you'd like to try Google translate or something.
The liveforspeed.se website has been updated. A new landing page has been created and we've left PHPBB2 behind us and switched to SMF.
We're planning to create an english version of the site, but until then you may register in english using this link (in case you'd like to sign up for Torsdagsrace or such).
Please check if the network adapter is still installed:
start > run ncpa.cpl
There should be atleast one "Local Area Connection", make sure that its enabled and that it reports that the cable is plugged in.
Can you reach your router? First check its ip:
Still in the "network connections" window, right click on your local area connection and select "status". Click on the "support" tab and note the "default gateway" address.
Try pinging your router as well as an internet server:
