I don't know if the AI raceline is hardcoded or not, but from what I saw, I think the major part slowing the AI down is that they are not using the full width of the track for their driving... When I teach people to drive fast, I always tell them that each cm (inch) of unused track costs them a lot of time...

Quote from xaotik :I guess so - I obviously have alot to improve on. What weirds me out is the fact that I'm faster coming out of the chicane but seem to run out of steam on the straight.

maybe too much downforce?

Quote from Nordic :What about do you guys think about engine brake torque? I think the brake torque is insignificant on all cars, especially on the race cars. I mean there is no need to blip the throttle while downshifitng to keep the rear stable, which makes driving easy. Especially the race cars with assumed high engine compression ratios and low inertia drive train including engine should have some noticeable brake torque. My street car seems to have more of it. I'm not saying it is wrong, i'm just wondering.

+1 i too think that engine braking is too low in LFS...

I don't like the idea that the line should be visible while racing online, but I would like to see it in singleplayer for newbies to learn the basics and in LAN racing, because on LAN parties some people are total noobs and don't have any idea what a racing line is and a visible line definitely helps them alot!

Quote from DaveWS :- XRT should remain the same. It's the most difficult to drive, so should have a slight edge.

wooot!!! it took some waiting, but finally it seems this issue will be solved

Spinoff : Sideview buttons/options

I would post this in the test patch forum, but only the almighty one can start threads there

I haven't found a coherent discussion about the new sideview options. What I read at the czech forum, there are several issues that some people think need solving.

- DFP users have a problem looking 90 left/right because the hat cannot be pressed on two sides at once
- many people would like to have the posibility to choose if 90 or 45 degree view is the one-touch option

do you have any other issues in this matter? what you like/dislike on this new way of looking around?

This is not about me, this is about the racers in the league...

Thank you for the answer Scawen. Sorry to hear that you will not be able to make the life of a league organiser easier, but that's life...

I do not mean that you should hold the patch in, but what would be enough is that when you get to some point and know that the patch will come in some time (be it one hour or half a day) just let us know... But if no, ok, I will have to deal with it...

Quote from Jakg :How does telling us that there will be a patch "in the next few days" help with this...?

This is something different then I ment... Some technical problems can't be foreseen and I totally understand that you can't do anything about it...

well I posted before I read the thread by Victor, so while I understand them and all is ok, I still think that the devs could tell us a day in advance that something like this will happen... It will be the same when the official patch comes out. League races are planned and now as an organiser you are in a not good position when deciding "to race or not to race" because maybe there will be a new patch...

The days on which patches are released are in general not good for league racing... People get confused, when you say we drive the latest patch, some people may have problems upgrading/unlocking, not enough fast connection to download the patch in time, etc. and if you drive the older one, there are people who 2 hours ago installed the new patch out of curiosity and now don't have a way back...

I really don't see why we could not know that "sometime afternoon/evening there will be a new patch"... This is enough for everyone to adapt to it... It does not ruin the surprise (on the contrary, there will be 2 surprises, one with the news that sometime today the patch will come out and the second when it actually comes out...
League admins would appreciate info about master server upgrades

I don't know how other league admins, but I would appreciate if I knew that I should have not planned a league race for yesterday evening. I was on a meeting with some our business partners, I told everybody in advance that I will have to leave some time before the qualifying starts. Then almost ran 10minutes across the city to get to the nearest wifi spot. I got onto the server just in time for the qual, when people warned me that not everything is ok, that people get kicked, because the master server is not working as it should... Not the perfect environment for a 3hours endurance race...
This is not a rant that I had to reschedule the race, the rant is about the time lost by all the about 40 people who reserved their precious time for racing only to find themselves with a "no-plan" evening...

Scawen, please would it be possible to let us know at least a day in advance next time before something like this will happen?

ok, i get the idea now, thank you! I thought it was a way different technique, but it is very similar. I use something between those two while driving IRL (clutch pedal for LFS is on its way )... I dont have the heel on the floor and I blip the throttle with the side of my foot just above the heel...

Quote from tristancliffe :Using your heel and your toe is a very old fashioned technique. 99% of drivers use the sides of the ball of their feet, and most pedal boxes (in race cars) are designed for this technique.

Some cars do need the heel to be used, but they are few and far between these days.

So, whilst it's call Heel&Toe it's actually Left&RightSideoftheBallofyourfeet really.

please could you explain this technique? what is the "SideoftheBallofyourfeet" for us non-english... thank you...

Quote from Tweaker :Then again, LFS tracks ARE too smooth mostly, and about the only tracks I like are South City and Fern Bay specifically because they are bumpy in certain areas. All the other tracks feel far too smooth.

I disagree here... Kyoto, Westhil and Aston are pretty bumpy too... you just don't notice this when sitting in your chair... Try those tracks in the FD301 and you will be surprised how bumpy they are in certain areas...

I've been playing LFS since spring 2003 and must say that after such a long time I'm really bored with the LFS tracks... There is not a track I have not driven on. Not with all cars, but it is not much of a difference when you drive a corner in different cars, the ideal line is almost the same and when selecting a track I already know where to drive... the only thing that changes are the braking points...

I just don't see why LFS could not be opened for "moderated modding". Let people make a track, but such a track could only be used offline... And then let the developers (and maybe some other trusted people) decide which track will it make to online... This way we will only have quality content and much more diversity in tracks!

There will still be popular combos for public racing (maybe even the same as are now), but leagues and people wanting to try something new will have the option to use other tracks...

i guess the only option is to make real gauges using outgauge and bolt them on the hub of the steering wheel...

Custom gauges mod, can place them anywhere you desire

nice, but it uses insim... which you can't use together with outsim, which is needed for the FD301 to work... so I can have the gauges, but the machine won't work...
Gauges placing?
Chaos

since insim does not work together with outsim, please is it possible to move the gauges (or a simple speed&rpm readout, shiftlight and gear) someplace else on the screen? using LFS on the FD301 is hard when you don't see them, its a problem especially in the formula cars... virtual gauges are very far out of the sight...

i really dunno about this discussion... if you want to be fast, you always have to look where you are going... and in 98% cases it does not matter if the cockpit is there or not...
with the FCV on, I can't race on those serves if more than 18 people are there... try going through T1 with 10fps...

does not help...

I voted NO for one reason: FPS... not everybody has an enough powerful machine to get decent fps needed for racing... wheels view = more fps...
i was driving from the wheels view in S1, when S2 came I got into the cockpit, i had to relearn driving, but dealt with it... now with X there is the possibility to have so many drivers at the start that I had to go back to wheels view, because from the cockpit I had 10 - 20 fps in the first lap or two... 15fps = lfs unplayable...
