Before patch Y I think the devs said a few of the interiors were done and ready but the FBM meant that these had to be implemented in a later patch. Do you think we can expect to see them in the next patch? I don't mind waiting for the game to develop, it's fantastic watching it grow and it really is the best Sim ever. I just wondered if this content was put off for a reason? The quality of the FBM interior is excellent. Obviously physics etc are far more important but if the interiors are done and ready it seems a shame to not put them in unless it was just a time problem getting them 100% ready for patch Y.
Sorry, think I'm going to keep hold of this one. I only just bought it before xmas and it cost me £120. Was an ebay job. I havn't read it all yet but with my first ever race a few weeks away I need to hurry up and finish it. I need all the help I can get I'm very anxious......any tips?
Here. here. In Ayrton Senna's driving principle's book. (The only book that he co wrote) he goes into great detail about how a rev limiter should be used just above the optimum shift point and without it, it would have the engineers cringing in the pit lane waiting for the sound of a huge engine failure!!! A rev limiter shouldn't weigh anything as its usually in the ECU code & mapping. Each to their own I guess but I'm pretty sure 99 out of 100 race drivers would agree that a rev limiter is crucial. You say they toughen up the engines in drifting which is fair enough as I'm guessing they are pretty highly tuned but EVERY engine no matter what state of tune it's in still has an optimum shift point and a point where a limiter should be put so as to not destroy the engine by deliberate or accidental damage by over revving.
i know what you are saying NanG. Before in LFS you could drift for ages because the engine would keep revving and keep the wheels spinning at very high rps's but now it's different. When the wheels spin too much and the engine speed increases it hits the cars limiter and stops the wheels and engine from accelerating anymore and so making the drift a lot harder to maintain. Yes it makes it harder to drift but I think it's more realistic. In real life most cars have limiters and if you are drifting them you will have to account for this too. I have been watching motorsport for over 15years and I can't remember ever seeing a race car without a limiter. I also have my National B race licence and I would hate to have a race car without a limiter. It's there for a reason to stop your engine from destroying itself. Car's have maximum power at a certain rpm and usually drop-off very quickly. On a lot of Honda's at 7800rpm bhp is 170 but at 8800rpm its about 135bhp and so its much much better to change gear and use the torque or change your gear ratios. I don't know much about drifting but I can't see a reason for taking a limiter off a car and rev it past what it was safely designed to do and get less power than if you just change gear. Please elaborate....as I'd love to know why anyone would do that?
Yes I also agree. LFS does a fantastic job at simulating open diffs. In real life I have driven many FWD cars that spin the inside wheel. When i owned a Honda Integra Type R with a helical LSD however it really showed up how bad most FWD cars really are.
Thankyou Scawen & Co. Fantastic news. I'm very very excited, the updates in this new patch are exactly what I have been wanting for some time now.
Can't believe nobody has mentioned that now cars have real redlines. This update has been asked for a long long time and now it's in along with the engine damage. Can't wait.... and xmas isn't exactly a long way away too.
Maybe we will get a development update sometime soon explaining what the devs have been working on like the old days when they used to do this every so often on the main page. Whatever the updates are I'm sure they will be fantastic additions, I can't wait.
I guess I almost class for an "oldie" and I'm still loving LFS as much as the day I first played. I have in noway become bored. I'm just excited for the next update. Also I bet as soon as a new update/patch is released the "oldies" that have become bored will come flooding back. It's just human nature, some people get bored quicker than others but as soon as there is something new to try, their back.
I agree. It's not about doing things that are different to GT5. You don't seem to get LFS. I have plenty of friends that don't get LFS either yet play GT4 all the time. They say LFS is too hard and too realistic and so it becomes not fun. But myself as a true racing enthusiast I enjoy the realistic physics and can't wait for more. Realism isn't about a list of real life car's.
LFS fills the gap in the market where people find games like GT4 boring and unrealistic. LFS is the only game I enjoy playing more now than I did 3years ago. All my other games are on a dusty shelf never to be played again.
I know if I'd just spent the last 4 or 5 years developing a really good quality online driving simulator I'd hate to go on you tube and see it ruined by loads of crap attempts at maxxed out integra's playing destruction derby. Can see the comment's now......."man what is that crap game those cars look sooooo lame". I'd feel sick. I know some talented people could make really nice models but the vast majority would be really bad and just put the game down.
I'm sure the next patch will be exciting. Everyone needs to just wait a bit, it will be worth it...
It's not always about flogging as many copies as they can. I'm sure if it was about volume of sales the game would look very need for speed indeed.
I think this should be moved to the suggestion forum. It's a good idea which has been asked many times before but is unlikely to be implemented until the game is finished.
I would like changing weather conditions, working wipers, more tracks, more cars, improved graphics, better more realistic physics, motion gear changes in incar view etc etc etc. But I know that I have to either wait for these things to be developed or accept they may never be implemented. There's no point in whinging, just let the devs do their job. Like I said before, if everyone asked for just a little bit of this or just a little bit of that, a quick add on or change here etc then real LFS development would ground to a standstill. All good things come to those who wait...
The thing is though if they take the time to answer one or two questions then people will say it's not fair that they won't answer their specific question. It snowballs and eventually a lot of time will be wasted in trying to explain to people why certain things are or not possible in LFS and then why they won't answer every question. So the best way is to say nothing. Then no-one expects an answer. The only problem with that is threads like this appear but the devs have said on many occasion they make this game the way they want and not how someone else wants. And because of this attitude and way of development it is a much better game for it.
Well said. This guy has it sussed. It is a silly idea to allow random people to change a game that is still early in it's development. LFS is the best driving game ever made by a mile. I for one trust and agree with every single thing that the devs have done so far. If they don't allow us to mod everything and havn't explained why I'm sure there's a very good reason why not. Why should they explain these things anyway?! If they explained why every little suggestion was a good or bad idea they would have no time left for anything else.
This game doesn't need people adding 3rd party cars and add-ons. It would soon become fast & furious tokyo drift and steal a lot of potential racer's off server's to go and drive a crap re-make of their favourite hot hatch. It was never meant to be like this. It was and still is meant to be an online racing simulator with people driving similar car's at their limit around a track.
The game is fantastic as it is and getting better all the time. Topics like this are only slowing the devs down...
I usually can't be bothered with the stress of racing online all the time. So improvements to the A.I. is fantastic news to me. I seriously can't wait. I use the A.I everyday and still find it fun racing them in slower cars. Just wish they had knowledge of me and where I am on track.
Don't usually post as I never have problems and don't like to clog forums up with hundreds of thankyou's but felt it my duty this time. Yet again this is another fantastic update. I like the little bit of insight too as to what you will be working on next. Running very smooth also. Thanks again Scawen and co for making and improving the best car simulator in the world. Alric.
ok had my G25 for a few months trouble free but now reverse wont work. I'm going to try and open it up and have a look. Does anyone know what I'm looking out for? what would have broken for it to suddenly stop working? Am i looking out for microswitches? springs? what?
