If you really don't want to spend the money before you know if it's something to get into, then you can just spend a bit of money on one of the superzoom cameras for $200 (whatever equiv. over there.)

They have full manual controls and you learn the same thing. They seem to all do f/2.8 these days as well, which would be a big benefit to me seeing that mine is about 3 years old now and only goes to f/3.5.

The superzoom cameras are a great way to spend very little money just to see if you like it. You will definitely outgrow it very quickly though. I just don't have the cashflow to throw at a dSLR, so I don't take many photos anymore because the camera no longer does what I'm capable of and want. But it did allow me to learn a ton using a camera in manual. You can search back through my posts to see what my little f/3.5 $200 camera is capable with a little bit of photography knowledge behind it.

Howdy. Had some busy times moving back to my home but things are moving a bit smoothier once again. Here's some crap from past two weeks or so.

Tested out the Da* 50-135/2.8 (rented). Good lens i guess, was too cold to judge it fairly.

Pretty tough to focus on white swans on white snow.

I'm a noob when it comes to photography but I've just started a photography class at school so we'll see if I turn out to be any good. I thought the class was about digital photography but I checked the wrong box at registration so now I'm going to be in a darkroom all semester learning the ancient arts. Not really sure what to think yet, seems kinda useless now that nobody uses film. Also I don't get to use my Rebel XT which I used to take these shots of my car.

..which i'll post tomorrow. I forgot that macs suck and don't have a built in picture editor so i cant resize these.

not really. friend of mine is shooting with linhof technikardan and has only film back but it produces beautiful photos you can't even imagine and with medium format cameras theres no problem to print 2metres wide photo. but yes, there aren't so many photographers still using a film...besides, I bet that if you like photography you'll enjoy it!
