I'm not very active on the LFS forum, but keep checking them every day or so.

I must say, many of you speak just too much, but indeed, it is taking very long now.

An update, positive or not, would be helpful.

Big fan of the UDP idea. But I don't think it should push any more important changes to the background. You spend more time enjoying physics than refreshing host lists..

Quote from J@tko :Just on FM FOX server atm, and found this rather nasty bug [well, I'd call it a bug]

We're on KY NA, and my race set has R2s all around [Qual has R1s]. Got taken out at T1, so went round to pits, repaired damage and put R1s on all around, as there's only 3 laps left and the grid is set by FL time, so I wanted to get as far up as possible for the next race. That was ok, got to the end of the race, parked up and waited for the restart.

Race started, and I was overtaking people around the outside and everywhere, looked at my tyres, and found they were still R1s, not R2s as they should be [F12 was still showing my KY NA Race set].

Needless to say, I did a Jeremy Clarkson in overtaking everyone in the first two laps, then got overtaken by everyone again when my tyres overheated

Bug: Unless you pit [as in shift-p] at the end of a race, any setup changes you make at a pitstop in the race before carry over to the next race.

Isn't there a 'bleep' and message saying 'setup saved' when you make changes in the race? So, yes, it's normal the setup is changed and will stay that way in the next race. Something like this needs a discussion, keep the changes temporarily or save them to the setup..

I bet there are legal problems.

Think about it, the 11 DEC they figured they could release it in the week of the 19th DEC. Now it's four months later. I guess the car is in a quite decent state to be driven by the community but VW is giving the devs a hard time?

My expectations are high up. I can imagine that modelling the car takes allot of work to get it on a level the devs like it. But I somehow think the 2 other brains are left with 'less' work (related to the Scirocco) so I guess there's a possibility we'll have a new track combo, new graphics, probably the rest of the new interiors?

Quote from hazaky :Was driving on montana track when suddenly saw this.

What bothers me about this screenshot is the collision between the tyre and chassis.

But I guess that's something what isn't on the main todo list for now. But I do dream of colliding tyres one day, it should be great if something like this would occur, or bottomming out the suspension, there would be a real life collision like between tyres and tarmac. The first thing what comes into my mind is make the inside of the wheel arches behave like 'hard' material, like the tarmac.. But I guess barriers are made that way and they show the 'material' collision isn't exactly right yet. I guess that bottomming out your suspension would send your car flying around then.

Ah well, one day we'll have scraping tyres in the wheel arches? And hopefully no option to roll the arches for some lowriding

Quote from kiss me :there is 1 thing i dont get,
scavier keeps improving the game, implenting new cars etc...
but they just don't fix bugs that have been in the game for many releases.
i'm talking about the barriers...
they make u go places people have never been before...
they make you lose races etc..
when will they be fixed??
they really mess up the game

greetings,

I think the community would go wild if they would spend all their time on fixing these 'old' bugs. This community has no patience. My guess is that they are working on stuff like that in the 'background'. I think it's nice the devs try to deliver good new content now and then, I really understand how much work things like a the new Scirocco are. I guess the barriers bugs and such will be fixed when there isn't a 'we need something new!!' thread for a few weeks, meaning 'everybody' is happy with the state the game is in. Who knows, maybe we will experience something like that when the Scirocco is out?

Is it possible that (recent) LFS versions are polling more slowly for controller input?

I noticed that sometimes when I steer pretty fast (countersteer or so) that my wheel is off center too. I think this is because LFS 'misses' some of the input pulses of the wheel?

I can't remember having this with 'previous' LFS versions, this just came up the last few months..

I'm using a Momo Racing btw.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Blackwood Reversed: The first turn is amazing in just about every car, but very good in anything rear wheel drive because the car gets really light over the crest of the hill and you really have to wrestle the car back onto the correct line while braking for the next turn and trying to stay off the curbs at the same time.

Aston Club: I would pick the entire track if I could, but the last turn is amazing, the braking zone is probably one of the hardest in LFS, and it provides some great overtaking opportunities.

Very nice corners indeed, those are two of my favs!

yeah, it has more understeer. though you can get rid of this with some subtle setup changes.

onscreen force feedback VS the wheel

Hi,

I want to start of by saying that I'm not another random bloke making a thread that has been done a thousand times. I've searched around and haven't found anything similar in the forums, I'm sorry if there's a thread, you could do me a favour by handing me the link.

I was thinking about this for a few days, and I decided to ask for a few more opinions here.

My findings are that the onscreen movements of the wheel aren't translated into the force feedback of the 'real life' wheel. Especially when taking a high speed fast 'bumpy' corner, the onscreen wheels wiggles about because of the forces on the car/tyres, but I don't feel this in my wheel (Racing Force).

Is this because I'm using faulty force feedback settings, or is it like that at all setups/configurations?
I also can't feel all the rumble strips, I feel some when I get lucky, should I feel them all?

So, I would like to know how other users experience the 'wheel wiggle' when racing.

Greetings.

Quote from aroX123 :I didn't know.. Since i saw him test FBM so..
But you say over half of them are nor real, what about the others?

New Q: What cars have you tested in LFS in real life

Edit: Sorry Three jump, didn't read the post

All cars in LFS are fictional except the Formula BMW, Formula 1 and the MRT.

And I suppose he only drove the FBM in real life.

Quote from Shotglass :tiny bug I just found
the "centre view" and "eye position" buttons in options => view are missing if youre not on track

Why would you want to 'center' your view when you're in a menu? Don't think those buttons are needed when not on track.

+1 for a lower temperature on road cars (equal or a little bit lower than outside air temperature)
+1 for NEAR IDEAL tire temperature on (formula) race cars, tire warmers are used in real life, lfs is here to simulate real life..

Quote from Juls :Does it improve framerate for autocross layout objects too ?

It should be possible to use the same technology for autocross walls (barriers) and stuff. I still remember what a dissapointment autocross tracks were for my framerate on my old computer. Mainly beacause of the many barriers.

I noticed he also got the 'move view with animation option on' and he's steering slightly more in the 'female' screen. This makes the difference even bigger, I'm sure the difference wouldn't be so big when the steer would be centererd.

Quote from SpikeyMarcoD :In singleplayer it should be possible with a temporary replay file played with game in paused state??

yeah, exactly what I wanted to type in my first post. But isn't a replay a total game state? But pausing the game, keeping al the 'data', playing the replay and putting the data back, is also a possibility.

Anyway, I think that it's on Scawen list an he'll come to it whenever he finds the time..

how far away are instant replays? (Single player)
Not that I want to pressure the devs, but I think it's kinda possible with these new replay developments..

for example:

Player presses the replay button, the replay plays like a normal replay.

Ofcourse you will have to 'restore' the game when you want to resume, but isn't that possible by fast forwarding the replay to the last frame and 'throwing' the player back into the car?

Anyway, nothing important. Just something I was thinking of..

An actual report of something strange:
The GTR's can't seem to pit on the south city town course. They all crash into the wall just before the entry of the pits. I haven't tested this with other cars or tracks. But I suppose it has something to do with their speed and number of cars? (12 AI cars) I have attached a little picture to clarify things.
I'm using patch Y20, but I don't think this has anything to do with a certain patch..
