Quote from BMW-gek :Thank you for answering.

I don't have a NVIDIA as hardware, its a Intel core i5. It looks impossible to me.

The support team had answered my email this morning. See below.

Thank you. Guess I'll have to at least try when I receive my Gear VR thingy Smile.

Thanks for the test.

There is quite a bit to do, to make it work fully with the store. For example it needs code to 'obey' the store's commands such as telling LFS to exit immediately or stop rendering while the user switches to the store and back. Some things like that anyway, I'm not sure on all the details. I worked on VR support including the "no mouse and no keyboard" system for the last few weeks as the first step to make it compliant with the store. I find that really useful in VR as you can't see the keyboard. But there is more, for example I think it needs to work straight out of the box with the XBox controller, so that when a user starts LFS from the store for the first time, they can already control it without keyboard or mouse.

So that's on the technical side. It did take a long time for Oculus to get back to me about LFS. After submitting it for consideration in December, I didn't hear back from them until March.

Anyway, they seem to be cooperating more now. I'm interested in continuing to aim for Store inclusion as it would be good exposure for LFS.

Works fine with DK2, Thanks.

Oculus Shop opened in the background after switching to VR Mode but game works fine. After exit you are automatically in Oculus Home. I am sure this was already discussed somewhere, but why is LFS not available (or will be?) in Oculus Shop?

EDIT: New test patch with improved support for Oculus 1.3 and CV1.

0.6N2: https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/89352

Original post from the early test:

I've tried to implement support for the Oculus 1.3 software. I can't test it myself because the Oculus software just crashes on my computer.

Anyone who has successfully installed the 1.3 software, please could you try this attached DLL?

1) Make sure you have the latest Live for Speed (version 0.6N)
2) Open the attached ZIP file
3) Open your LFS\dll folder where you will find LFSRiftVR.dll - rename it for backup
4) Save this test LFSRiftVR.dll into that folder
5) Run LFS and try to enter VR mode (Options... View... 3D)

I am waiting for my Gear VR, so I'm also keen on such a possibility Smile.
I've found this - if you already have the HW maybe you could give it a try ?

Quote from Scawen :Thanks for the Vive feedback! There aren't that many people with a Vive (yet). Smile

Yes, I am one of the lucky few with early access to a htc Vive Pre. To be honest, I didn't touch LFS for quite some time, other than watching old S1 replays. Took me literally 5 minutes, to download LFS, install it, disable the menu music, set visuals to the max, unlock the game and sit in a FZR on Westhill (including the 2 minutes looking for the 3D button).

The Rift and Vive experience for LFS must be extremely similar, since it doesnt make use of the motion controllers, so for anyone with seconds thoughts, try either of these systems with LFS. I started gaming on a Commodore C64 in the 80's and jumped on every technical invention there was (yes, also HD-DVD and almost LaserDisc as well), but I can guarantee you, you cannot imagine what LFS on VR is like. First impression is just wow. Triple screens + Track-IR doesn't even come close.

The resolution somewhat sucks, so hard to make out signs for breaking points, which is something you might get used to I suppose. It's first gen, so give it some time. By the time S3 is done, we all have VR brain implants Big grin

Scawen, if there is anything in particular you want me to test, just let me know. I certainly need more time with the game, so this might be nothing: On Westhill FPS drop to 45fps always at the same spot, but the SteamVR UI is not complaining about missing frames. Other than from the fps counter, I couldn't tell either.

Edit: Never mind, seems like you have a Vive yourself. No wonder, it just simply works.

I wouldn't have thought, that from all the VR demos/games it would be the oldest piece of software that puts the biggest grin on my face. Thumbs up, works like a charm with the Vive! Big grin
Multiple monitor setups

Hey Guys,
I just wanted to write a silly little post saying that I appreciate the amazing multi-monitor support your game has. I personally am lucky enough to know someone with a DK2 and have enjoyed your early VR support. I have often enjoyed using multi-monitor using soft-th. But just recently I downloaded an update to the game and by fiddling I clicked a button labeled multi-monitor in one of the options menus. It did all the configuring for me and I didn't have to mess with eye-finity or screw with my desktop which I have had to do with every other game.
Kudos and I wish I could give you honor in hat form.

I was hoping to do what just2fast wrote here but if it brakes multiplayer then i will not do that.
I have smooth flow when i look ahead, but if i look aside the moving objects look choppy ass you pass by them. I didnt notice that until last patch. LFS was the smoothest running VR experience so far and i could spend hours in it. Now i get sick very fast.

Hmm, as far as I know, with a Gear VR you can only use apps from Oculus home.

Quote from Scawen :...Live for Speed has some of the best VR support

- I'm sure it has, I haven't had the chance to test VR yet. But what I really do know is that LiveForSpeed supports 3D-vision far better than any other application on the market, racing games and simulators included. It's awesome. Be proud.

New version 0.6N - Updates in VR, multiplayer, audio and more
Scawen
Developer
Hello Racers,

We are pleased to announce a new update with many improvements for VR, multiplayer, audio and more.

Live for Speed has some of the best VR support. It's a big month for Virtual Reality, so we thought it was a good time to make it even better. Now, a "look and click" system removes the need for a mouse. A virtual keyboard means you don't need to use the real keyboard, which was always hard with a headset on.

A new Demo filter helps you find the online races you are looking for. Other multiplayer improvements include a better steering input for remote cars and quicker horn and flash transmission. The new siren sound system was a popular update and it inspired some audio improvements. Now the doppler effect is enabled on all car sounds.

We hope you enjoy the update. Read the list of changes and how to get the update on the 0.6N information page.

I think many of keyboard/mouse user are using the backspace for handbrake, so it would be really helpful if we can change the assignment of the VR keyboard key.

Sorry to double post, when I try script the following:

/button 13 reverse

It sets "VR Click" under the "Buttons 2" menu to that button. Even if I delete the assignment and run /button 13 reverse again, it is set to VR Click?

Any idea if thats a bug or something I am doing wrong?

Just wondering Scawen it would be possible to make an option to enable/disable the virtual keyboard for the VR stuff? Rather than it being constantly binded to 'Backspace'?
Why should we use kludges to fix what is broken?

Quote from Jonathon.provost :As a temporary measure, you can use the Autocross editor. Place pit start points, just outside of the garages. Place them as attached, in line with line on garage floor.

Don't put them on the main pit lane as they drive towards the inner put line AI Line.

No flames please.

Thanks for that , however, I'm of the opinion that we the end user shouldn't have to do this kinda fix, it's the devs responsibility.

I know 90 % of users want the tyre physic completed so the users can get the long awaited updates promised a zillion eons ago, but for someone noted for his commitment to perfection (Scawen of course)it's strange he can tolerate all these myriad of small bugs ruining the perfection of LFS.

Like not all like the AI, but it IS A part of the sim, so bugs like this are almost unthinkable - seems like the devs just don't have time for the AI, don't do any testing at all using them.

But will divert the time and energy away from the tyre physics for VR technology that will only be used by the ppl with a large wad of money, I certainly won't be able to afford any of the VR headsets when commercially available.

LFS is a great sim, without doubt, but showing it's age now as every other sim has had time to perfect or catch up on a lot of things, things like all the known bugs should in theory be ironed out prior to occulous rift, tyre physics etc or lets go back and mark the sim as a Beta version, which if it contains so many little fiddly bugs it really is?

Solved at least for me. I assigned SHIFT+S to the clutch pedal in the Logitech Software.

However my improvement suggestions for VR are still valid:

Quote from just2fast :
...
a) Wheel button doubleclick -> new assignment possibility
b) Wheel button combinations e.g. Button A + Button B -> new assignement possibility

or c) optional one button solution for "look and click"
...

Quote from Scawen :That is pretty stupid...

Quote from Flame CZE :It is stupid...

Quote from cargame.nl :It is not stupid...

It´s useless to discuss if SHIFT+S is stupid or not, some public server do have this rules for some reasons. Either you accept the rules or you better drive on a different server (if there are any).

Quote from cargame.nl :...The thing what just2fast is describing is that he has not enough keys on his wheel. Now, is this a problem of the programmer or the person which invests in a wheel. I think I know the answer. There are many Playstation a-like wheels available nowadays with loads of buttons. Go and grab one if you like racing Tilt

The wheel in my special case is a G25. Maybe not a highend wheel, but still a fairly good one. And yes a G25 has more than 2 button, but NOT on the wheel directly. They´re on the shifter module instead.
The point is, that in VR you have to find the buttons blindly. So putting commands on the shifter module makes only sense if they´re not time critical. SHIFT+S is time critical.

As cool VR is, it also has drawbacks and interacting with hardware/controllers is definitely one of them. Simply this are new challenges for users and developers.
From a users perspective of course I can buy different hardware, but I also can give feedback what on software side might can be improved. Especially if this affects also other users.

Basically, Post 79, explains the problem, I want it fixed. I have no problem with VR keyboard opening up with the chat window or anything. And, most of the programs I use are pretty much "dead", no updates, but still used commonly and compatible (untill 0.6m2/3/4/5/6/7) with lfs versions. Also, I would like 0.6M8 as an official version Tongue!
