Quote from niels1 :I see the point but you all seem to forget one thing.
You dont have to race on a server using some kind of system.
When connecting to LFS and its servers i get say around 450 servers.
No way they all run airio or something similar.
...

And if you dont want to go there, well there are many other servers out there.

example:
At this point there are 871 servers online.
without cruise servers: 789
without private: 597
without empty: 121
without demo: 52
running tbo: 4

IHR (28)
CAD (13)
Lublin Racing Team Server (1)
Ready2Roll (1)

This is not a skill issue (at least for most of us), but it's a time issue. Apart from the odd week or x-mas break I have basicly less than 2 hours of lfs per week.

And I don't wanna spent that time with unlocking content. It might have been fun the first time (ctra) and maybe even the 2nd time (LR) but why do I have to show over an over that I'm able to drive car X? I have done over 200.000 km in LFS, I think I know by know what I'm able to do and what not.

What I find much more annoying these days is that every server runs some kind of "you need to get some points to drive the car you want" system making it very hateable for the causal driver who wants to drive what he likes on a server with more than 7 players.

While it would be ok if all those systems would be at least sharing their databases with each other (since all are using airioooola anyway) but they are not. So you have several different servers being basicly about the same and the hour the spent on one server getting some points for your prefered car help you nothing on server B where you end up in the same crap box as on server A.

The point / career stuff is ok if only all the different hosts could align and form one shared database for all but atm it's just annoying with all the different ones (LR, IHR, Level, etc).

my 2 cents

Quote from e.M :dunno where to put it but tbo class will be nomore with limited setups unless it includes restrictions so im asking will it include that?

With the new tire and suspension model the tbo class will need balancing anyway, or at least it's very probable. And if a class turns out to be unbalanced there is still the option to play with the restriction settings, either local on a server via an insim app or global via the master server.

Depends on how close the beta testers can get the cars with the default sets, or to what options the setups will be limited, I'm not sure if those have been mentioned yet.

Quote from Storm_Cloud :One problem with the current system is that now further developments (S3, S4 etc) are content based, if we keep paying 12 quid per stage then someone new to LFS would have to pay £48 for S4, maybe £60 for S5 if we get that far. It would become even more niche, whereas people might be happier spending the same amount of money over a longer time with a time based licence instead of content based.

By that logic I'd have paid £72 by now, hmm actually £84 with 2010...

I won't rent a game. Never done, never will. If I pay for something I want to "own" it rather than having someone else just allowing me to use it under his terms.

On the other side, having to rent the game would require also having the client to be connected all the time while playing. I know that might be less and less of an issue these days, but some still have to pay for the bandwidth they use (I know it's probably only very little actually used, but still).

For what I'd pay is extra content (S3, S4.... whatever).

Quote from tristancliffe :Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks, combined with Ricardo Wave. Sure one of the few adult examples? Put aside a good month for each component (well, the complex ones, like cam profiles and piston shapes, and combustion chamber shape, and port geometry...).

Should be ready to 'run' in a year or two.

If you want a game, then you might as well stick to "Turbo Stage 4 Kit", because that's as realistic as it'll get.

You forgot matlab/simulink for the simulation part
Also all cool adults use Catia these days.

Quote from z-ro 8 :ah you see, this is the case.....all the points you earn here apply towards your rank, so as you "level up" on one server, it can allow you access to other servers and car combos...

even on the ironhorse or LR server?

A much a I love some kind of making cars only availble once you have earned enough credits to have some sort of basic filter... Wouldn't it be for once possible that all the points I earned on server A where also being registered by server B (since all use the airo plugin anyway)?

For Bob's sake, those servers die all faster than I have the time to "level up" myself to the car I want to drive on a full server...

Sorry, but this question has been asked before and was discussed for several times over the past years, yet it still keeps poping back up again together with the "lfs is dead" or "where is the patch" threads.

They do not because they don't want to and it's not our business to say what is good or bad and what the devs should do. If they wanted to have someone telling them what to do Scawen and Eric could have stayed at Lionhead.

Dunno why, but I never really liked mIRC, using the free x-chat client (http://www.silverex.org/news/).
