If I was a teacher and someone wrote an essay about how computer games teach you and make you a better driver, I would fail it immediately.

Must be different over there. Good secondhand means car payment around me. I chose car payment on a brand new car because it wouldn't be any more than a used car. Cheap second hand means high mileage and repairs (lot of maintenance repairs, not breakdowns.) I'm Pennsylvania too, remember. High mileage (100k +) means rust and corrosion. Our cars drive on salt continuously from November until March. Once the rust starts for us, there's no stopping it.

I have a small 1 inch rust hole in my Altima. If I tried to fix it, I would end up with half the rear quarterpanel gone. If I leave it alone, it only creaps bigger slowly over time until it will no longer pass the yearly state inspection (MOT for you guys, I guess.)

Quote from Mackie The Staggie :Can't believe I managed to get mine for under £30....all legit and in perfect condition.

Bought mine in a closeout store right before I found LFS (2005) for $7 in the wrapper. When I found out a few days later that it was going on Ebay for around $90-100 at the time, I ran back to the store because they had hundreds of copies. They were all gone by the time I checked again. I could have made a killing.

Quote from ajp71 :if I can't afford something now I can't have it simple as that.....

That's fine and dandy, but when my kids started complaining when it got down to below 20 F in the house, I figured it was time to buy some fuel for heat. Since it cost more than one of my paychecks to get heat per month last year, a lot went on a credit card. It is a necessary evil when you have to decide in being homeless, cold, hungry, or debt on a credit card.

Of course in hind sight now, I realize that 9 years ago instead of buying a reasonable house I could afford, I should have bought a McMansion I couldn't afford because now "The One" is going to bail them all out and leave the ones who truely can not afford to heat their home in the winter and feed their kids out to dry....

Quote from th84 :She loves it. It looks a lot different than the 06 model.

They are quite different. My wife loves hers, I despise it. Auto everything including the freakin AC (can't turn just heat on the windshield and floor, the AC compressor kicks on ). The automatic 4WD system "senses" slip and transfers the power to the rear. In my opinion, if it senses slip, that means that you've already slipped! I want my 4wd to PREVENT slip!

I do have one thing I like about it. It is rated at 19-21 mpg or something and there are complaints all over the net about the Escape/Tribute's fuel milage of 15-16 real world. I get about 24 mpg overall.

Quote :So yes, I do have one car payment every month. I send them double each month and Im on pace to have it payed off near the end 0f 2010.

Nice, you'll have your 08 paid off before I have my 06 paid off, LOL. Though I did get it left over in 07 and the sticker was $29,900 and I got it for $18k leftover new.

FYI, it is made from about 250 images. Remove the extra part of the link to get to the root website. They even have a robot for sale to take them.

The simple version is, you zoom in as close as you can for the highest resolution, pan across several shots through moving down several rows and stitch them all together.

There are a lot more interesting images on that site than the inauguration of that idiot.

DWB, no youngster here, so yes, I do have a car payment. When you have a house, wife, 2 kids, and 2 cars, it's a bit necessary to have a car payment, if you don't want to mess around with used stuff that is.

I have a 2006 Mazda Tribute on loan and a 96 Nissan Altima with 164k on it that was bought used and paid off around 2003 or 2004.

Got tired of messing around with used cars and constantly needing to fix them. The 06 Mazda is our first brand new car in the marriage.

All the food on that site just looks disgusting. I don't see any of it tasting good.

On that note, I just had me a burger from the place about an hour away from me....

Speak for yourselves about the cows that are used for food and how they are treated. The beef that I eat all have names and they occasionally get petted also. My daughters love to go pet them. They also don't get pumped up full of steroids and chemicals.

Just to note because it seems that people just assume....

Driving fast does not equal racing
and driving fast on a road does not equal driving fast on a road in the city or traffic.

Just wanted to point that all out.

As one who drives in Pennsylvania in the US where for 5 months out of the year we drive completely on salt, I don't think that you need to worry about what little salt (if any) you guys put down on your roads for clearing the snow covered roads.

Sure it eats the metal of our cars, but that is after years and years and years of salted roads for 5 months each year. Not from one little snow dusting that you guys have gotten recently.

Quote from Bean0 :Wow, 100% of people browse from work.

100% of the whole 4 people who voted at the time you looked...

I browse both at home and at work with work being a larger margin because I'm in front of a computer for 8-10 hours as opposed to about 2 hours or less at home.

How do you think 4x4s fair in practically completely submerging in water crossings? Water isn't going to hurt anything as far as the frame/sheetmetal.

Of course, they are all specially built to protect electrical components and the engine for this, but the principle of the body/frame getting wet is the same... The carpet will indeed really stink. You may want to remove it completely and have it cleaned. Wet carpet stink is not something I would want to live with driving every day.

Quote from three_jump :Name just one game you guys have played as long as LFS before getting bored to death with it.

Indycar Racing 2. I bought my first computer in 1995 and got ICR2. Bought my first wheel in 1996 and I played that computer and ICR2 up until I finally got a new computer in 2005 and was able to run NR2003 until I found LFS. It was very heavily modded for single player against the AI. Sucks at today's standards, but was fine for me back then.

ICR2 for 10 years, NR2003 for a year, and LFS for 3 years (haven't played for about a year).

Quote from MAGGOT :Actually, it's the first 4 inches of them that has more enhanced feeling. That doesn't mean you only need to be 4"...

I voted 19", although I have two of 'em.

Two of them? Do you use those for 2 girls at once, or one girl giving her double the pleasure?

A dark and lonely 17 inch CRT. Dark and lonely because there's no graphics card to give it life....

Blurry 17 inch CRT sitting on the floor and a 15 inch sitting on the other desk that has no computer for it.

As for what I'm using right now, it's my work laptop with I think a 14 inch widescreen.

Quote from Sueycide_FD :We were getting 70 degrees in the middle of February. i honestly think this planet's climate is FUBAR now.

I bought my last car at the end of January of 2007. The day before I bought it, it was 80 F and there were motorcycles everywhere out on the roads. The next day I test drove it in 24 inches of snow.
