I put 50some thousand miles on cars without using power steering or brakes. You aren't going to die because you don't have power steering or brakes. Cars use to not have that.

Both my first 2 cars I owned did not have power steering or brakes.

Wondering how the off-throttle fuel usage works with an auto? When I let off the throttle at speed in my wife's car, the engine comes down close to idle speed. It's not at idle, but maybe about 1200 RPM (idles at 900 I think) or so no matter what speed I'm running at. Thus, is the fuel flowing to keep it running or is a little bit of wheel speed still being transfered back to the engine keeping it running?

Though I would like to put a pickup in my acoustic, it wouldn't be to sound like an electric. I have an electric I love well enough for my electric fix. I want it so I can put it on a loop pedal.

Don't worry Becky, I've had my guitars since 2005 and I still suck. I need to do some learning how to play the guitar rather than just how to play this song and that song. I also need to pick it up more than once a week or so. Just not enough time though.

Figured I'd load up the newest version to take a look. I have no idea what happened to my pings, but they are worse than back in 2005 when I use to race on dialup (BBT will remember those days :razz

503ms (non-empty server) is my lowest ping I've never had pings remotely close to 500ms even back when I was on dialup. Most of these servers are those that I had always seen before in Z28 at under 250ms.

Edit: Well, I guess never mind. I have no idea when my antivirus updates, it seems to do it at random times. Perhaps that was it. It was just a bit shocking to see 500+ pings, but seems to be back to normal at sub250.

Quote from th84 :I also fired up LFS yesterday for the first time in a couple of years. However, I found that nothing has changed as the only servers with more than 2 people were cruise servers. :sleep2:

Tis the same I find every time I've fired up the old LFS icon about once or twice a year in the last 3 years or so.

I don't race because I'm poor. The graphics card blew out on me and the old onboard GFX just doesn't cut it for frame rate. If I had the money to waste on a computer I would, there's just no money to waste.

Feeding the kids is more important than buying a computer to play a video game...

Quote from MAGGOT :Really? A gaming mouse will make you a better US Army marine?

My brother has toured Bosnia and three times toured Korea on the DMZ. He has a kill in Korea, basically a "him or me" situation as he described it. It has negatively affected him forever, that one single kill, but he did explain that during the teenage years, had he been playing video games with a normal mouse, it would have been him....

It's all fake and made up fantasy. A royal wedding and a killing in the same weekend? Can't you spot a Disney movie when you see one?

It's all fun and games until finally 3 hours before the wedding, you can't find Doug. That and the fact that Mike Tyson's tiger is in your bathroom, one of you has pulled his tooth out and he finds out he is now married to a stripper and a naked Japanese guy has launched himself out of the trunk to strike you with a lug wrench....

Was drunk every Friday and Saturday night. Then it was very often through the week along with every Friday and Saturday night. Then I grew up and became an adult. Now I'll have a beer at dinner now and then when Wifey and I are out without the kids, not very often, and will "live it up" having 4 or 5 when out on work's tab, again not very often. Last time it was on work's tab, I headed up to my room instead while they all stayed in the bar until who knows when. I was the only one who showed up to the meeting other than the boss and one other guy the next morning on time while everyone else showed up 2 hours late.

My wife recorded the broadcast of the wedding from 4 am and her and the girls are watching it right now.

Didn't realize you just put this up a minute ago. I picked my number and was shocked that the longest bar was the same number! Then I noticed, I'm the only one who picked a number thus far, LOL.

I don't even watch the news on TV any more. Every breaking story is about someone who had their cell phone stolen and later was victimized or house was vandalized.

Just last week here close to me, someone had their phone stolen and the perpetrator found out how many trips to the donut shop the guy made in the past. Then the perp showed up at the donut shop and made fun of the guy for eating donuts so often.

It's just horrible all that is happening with all this information out there. Just all over the news.....

Quote from Agniz :IDK about the paintjob, it looks pretty nice when car is clean...

It's probably something in the reflections showing up on the image. Makes the body panels look like they are all warped and wavy to me on the hood and front fender. Not quite a high quality image as well.

It's about the focus of your mind. When glancing at a passenger in conversation, you are not focusing your mind on them. You are still focused on the road. When text messaging, you are focused at your keyboard and focused on the message you are writing.

Same with talking on a cell phone and talking to a passenger. You don't have to concentrate nearly as much talking to someone sitting next to you as you do trying to listen on a tiny little electronic speaker pasted to your ear.

I'm loving this now, glad I did just reinstall windows. Yup, definitely the easy way instead of asking a question on the net, waiting until the next day at work to see the answer, trying out when I get home and not have it work, report not working the next day. Following day, whoops, it's the weekend, will have to wait to here another suggestion on Monday, etc. etc....

Definitely going the "easy route" over being able to try one suggestion per day because you have to wait until you get to work to ask was definitely worth it.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :You're an idiot. Reinstalling an operating system should always be the absolute last resort

Issue was probably an infected hosts file in conjunction with the virus changing your network settings under local area connection -> right click / properties.

Well, quite frankly since you are calling folks idiots, everyone has it wrong because I've already stated that the computer is fixed, via windows reinstall.

No, it wasn't the host file. No, it wasn't due to a virus. Combofix was run, then the computer could no longer connect to the internet. Thus, virus on computer, internet worked. Virus gone but Combofix was used, Combofix screwed up the internet. It even said it the possibility of not connecting to the internet would happen and how to fix it, but the repair button wouldn't work as Combofix instructions stated.

The Google redirect virus was there for a very very long time. It was easier for me just to click a link in Google, hit ESC when the address appeared, and reload before it redirected, but try explaining to a 37 year old woman to do that.... Thus, I wanted to fix it, but the net went kaput after fixing.

So, before anyone else just reads the first post, I'll say it here and edit the first post..... It is fixed!

Thanks though to all who gave it some thought.

Doesn't solve my internet problem. I already got rid of the virus. Just had something happen to the network connection. The post says I had a problem getting the internet back, not getting rid of the virus....

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, I went with Combofix over Kaspersky....

That's just what I did, reinstalled Windows.

Hate doing that because it takes about a week to sort everything out from the Compaq/HP bloatware to reinstalling a ton of stuff to all the updates.

Oh well, lot of work to do.....

Since people only like to read the first post in a thread.....

My computer is now fixed. Thanks for the thoughts though folks.

*******************************

Since many of you folks are pretty computer and network savvy, I'm going to ask for some help....

Have an old Windows XP machine. Recently was working on getting rid of google redirect virus and now can not connect to the internet.

ipconfig at the command prompt gives me this....

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway:

When I hover over the network icon in the taskbar, I have the error....

"Acquiring network address"

And upon trying to repair in the network connections, I get....

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Renewing your IP address"

I am at a loss as to what the problem is. I've contacted the ISP of which they were no help other than supposedly it is not a problem on their end.

I have the problem out on bleepingcomputer.com now, but it could be days before I hear anything there. Thought one of you more savvy than I computer folks here could help.

Thanks guys.

I've never seen a Ford rust. Then again, I've never seen a Ford mechanically sound long enough to worry about rust.

Toyotas rust, Nissans rust, Hondas rust because they are still running mechanically past 100,000 miles....
