Quote from duke_toaster :If we want a song for an intro video, the remix of 303 Forever would be excellent for it, in a sort of five minute epic one like the Gran Turismo series.

303 is a good idea, but I think, while Victors voice sounds fine, a professional singer would really add to it.

Quote from three_jump :We are not the Scavier's bosses. They can do what they want and when they want.

But to counter that, since we (S2 users) are all investors in a future product, should we not be treated as such? Or like shareholders? In other words, we put forth money to fund a project. Being that we have a vested interest in said future project, we should have a say in the pace and development of product.

My opinion is that the improvement section should be trimmed, heavily moderated and largely ignored.

Quote from chanoman315 :**** you, an evo better than a subaru ..I..

You're right; the Evo IS a better car to drive....
...if you're a mediocre driver with no talent. That is why automotive journalists so like them.

Hang on, how is "cool" determined?

The Kristin Scott-Thomas standard?
The Fiona Bruce Standard?
The TristianCliffe standard? (God help us...:razz

Or is it something else? By Top Gear standards, that Porsche and that EVO would be uncool. Only mouth breathing car dorks like us like those cars. Same with the X Bow. Only engineers and petrolheads would think that is cool.

In the LFS world by Top Gear standards, the XFG, UF1, XRG would be cool cars. The XRT would be seriously uncool. Any one seater or race versions would be off the scales uncool.

So again, who is going to set the standard?

Quote from squidhead :Typical

Everyone cries about Big Bad USSR that was "Terrorizing poor Estonians and Latvians and Ukrainians and everybody else", and nobody tends to think that their asses actually depended on Russians to save them from being wiped out during the war, and depended on USSR to feed them till '91...

From Wikipedia:
Quote :
Soviet occupation

The Soviets reoccupied the country in 1944–1945, and further mass deportations followed as the country was forcibly collectivised and Sovietised; 42,975 persons were deported in 1949. Influx of labourers, administrators, military personnel and their dependents from Russia and other Soviet republics started, and by 1959 the ethnic Latvian population had fallen to 62%. During the Khrushchev Thaw, attempts by national communists led by Eduards Berklavs to gain a degree of autonomy for the republic and protect the rapidly deteriorating position of the Latvian language were suppressed.

I guess it was all peaches and cream for the the Latvians.

Something to ponder:
Quote from Scawen :I counted recently in an answer to someone. Not lines but... here's what I wrote.

I don't know how many lines of code there are (anyway that would depend how many blank lines I include for readability and lines with just a bracket on them) but here's some hopefully more useful info : the source code is divided into 492 C++ source and header files and these include nearly 6 million characters of text.

Six million characters of text...quite a fair bit of effort from one person. I really doubt he would spent all this time, all these years on this game so racers can have the equivalent of AOL/AIM/IRC with cars.

Quote from somasleep :Would the world today be better a worst?

I suspect worst. Here is my scenario...

Without Hitler I believe Germany creates the first atomic bomb. Germany was the center of a scientific renaissance. They were far ahead of the rest of the world in rocket technology and atomic research.

Once Germany had nuclear weapons they would have inevitably launched a war to avenge their defeat in WWI. Instead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki we would have Moscow and London (probably two lesser cities in those respective countries).

Europe including Britain would be part of a fascist German empire--The United States of German (U.S.G). Most of the Soviet Union would be annexed for the oil fields. The Soviet Union as we know it would have never existed.

The United States, being out of range of German v2, v3, v4 missles would buy enough time to become the 2nd nuclear power. But without the poached German scientist the U.S. would take longer to develop ballistic missile technology.

Japan would seek an alliance with the U.S.G and dominate Asia ruthlessly. Japan would eventually be the 3rd super power.

So, instead of what we had with Hitler....U.S.A, U.S.S.R and China superpowers we would have had U.S.G , U.S.A and The Japanese Empire superpowers. I believe this is a far worse world than what we have now.

What's your scenario?

How about reading this book.

Quote from hrtburnout :I've seen it before too, over a year ago if I recall correctly. It's the private car of the VW director, and it's called the V1 or something. Well, a short name with a 1 at the end.

Unless my memory's playing up again

I do not think a German company would be wise to call ANY of their products V1.

Nice concept...now let's see it used in a world like where I live; potholes, snow five months of the year, and psychotic mommies in Ford Excursions who do not use side mirrors.

Quote from tristancliffe :No, actually I've only not won a race twice this year, and both times I was 2nd. Thanks for asking. Will hopefully clinch the championship at the next round, if a few certain conditions are met...
But I still hold my opinion, I still think that electric cars are absolutely NOT the future, but a politically fuelled stop-gap by 'green' idiots/fanboys, I still think anyone who uses the initialism EV is a twat... I'm not fooled by people who think that burning fossil fuels in a power station constantly just in case everyone plugs in their car is significantly better for the environment that gasoline engines. Once electric cars become widespread I'm going to convert all the cars I own to carbs, and make people envious of proper cars again

But I got bored of this forum a few months ago, and post relatively infrequently. Too many morons these days. The only rescue would be a lot of new content and features in LFS (I can't believe I'm writing this) that doesn't appeal to morons (the F1 car was one of the worst things to happen to LFS) so that people actually discuss LFS rather than come up with stupid off-topic stuff all the time... Maybe the off-topic forum needs removing?

Every single word I agree with. Especially paragraph two.

Quote from DHRammstein :Definitely my favorite track, my trouble has always been the second to last turn, right before going uphill to the right toward the start/finish. I'm always either too fast, too slow, or offline. So recently I've just been hittin the brakes a little early, as far right as I possibly can and early as possible, cruising into the corner, then wot as soon as it seems I have the grip needed to not fire off into the grasss. Seems to work best for now, for me anyways. This is especially a problem with awd cars, as they like to yank across the track under hard acceleration and G's.

That is also what I do, or when the tires start going bad and it is a FWD car, I get the right rear tire on the grass so it can rotate.

Like others have said, the back half after the long straight has a lovely rhythm. In my opinion, only the hillclimb section in Aston Historic can touch that.

Quote from Scawen :In fact that would be not because you are at high speed, but because you are viewing the car from a distance. Then the Z-buffer resolution is reduced so the graphics card doesn't know which pixels should be drawn. I think the change in the wheel drawing means this can come up a bit more.

But anyway, I just wanted to suggest to you to make sure your Z buffer depth is set to 24, not 16 (at the bottom of Graphics Options). This provides better visual results on all computers in these extreme cases but should not be used by people with old cards or ones with smaller memory.

Ah! I noticed this also when watching a replay from Blackwood. Very good info, thank you!

I think it is safe to say that the FXO has been knocked off the the top of the hill. The RB4's rear is not so disconnected anymore, and the XRT...oh, how I love this car now! Oversteer is as predictable as the XRG's.

Quote from iam220 :The more I play LFS, the more I like to prospect of iRacing. Here's why;

- T1 wrecks every.god.damn.time.

- people constantly rear-ending me; I don't know the tracks, so i'm about 2-4 seconds slower, yet given the practice some of these people must of had, surely they'd know how to make a pass?

- very short races,

- inconsistent drivers ( I start out 10th and I finish 3rd because the people in front, although fast, can't keep their cars on the track)

Of course, of course...as we all know, paying a little bit of money every month will radically alter human behavior, for the better.
No, iracing won't see any of the above grievances you state, because as we know, people are rational and logical when it come to their money and winning, they would not DARE to bump, push, cheat...whatever it takes to win.
