I guess I also forgot to mention when i participate in big races, I am usually shaking and want to throw up, or run away. Or both! Recently the team I belong to participated in a big 24 hour race, and when my turn was up, I mentally blocked out all fears, all thoughts, and thought only of the race, and how I would finish.

Pretend that you are the worlds greatest driver. Now typically, the worlds greatest real world drivers are that because they are also pretty stupid. They only have ONE thought on their mind. Emulate that.

Just stop thinking and DO IT, regardless of made up consequences and errors that haven't happened yet.

A great idea, but on a public server, it would be as easy as herding a large group of cats.

It's a computer game, not real life. So ask yourself this:

1)Are you REALLY racing with friends, or jerks who laugh at your mistakes?

2)Is there money or prizes involved? If not, why worry?

3)If you crash your car, is someone going to be hurt or killed, or property damage?

I will be honest and blunt: It is just a game. Nothing more. If you keep that mindset, and PRACTICE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, you should have no worrys. If you are new to driving simulators, this game is not going to be easy. Patience and persistence is the key to developing skill here.

Good luck, and dammit, have fun, OK? OK.

Well, did you save a replay? Otherwise, I cant help you. Plus, unless I ban you personally, the ban is effective for 12 hours. Maybe 24.

So, dont sweat it.

Quote from Lotesdelere :OK, next steps:

Force people to wear a helmet while racing.
This is more realistic.
This will be controlled by web cam.

Turn the heater on even in summer because it's damn hot in a racing car.
More realistic.
This will be controlled by infra red sensors.

Disable chat.
You don't type while driving. Spectators can't even talk to drivers during a race.
This is not realistic.

Remove the Shift+S, now Shift+P option.
Cars don't magically vanish from the track.
This is not realistic.

Etc, etc...

I think my sarcas-o-meter exploded.

Point taken, Lotes.

I had this problem too, with the RB4. But not with the XRT! I think the factor is the physical layout of the track; you go down hill, then slightly uphill, and the forces compressing the front suspension meddle with the brakes.

I did three tests with each TBO car. Only the RB4 locked up the brakes, and its bias is 80%, FXO 77%, and XRT 75%.

So now, if your flipped, and your on the last lap, and your winning, what do you do, just go back to the pits and exit so you can start from lap 1 again? i dont think its a fair thing.

Neither is real life. That is why Live For Speed is a racing simulator, to simulate real life elements.

I am all for non resets. You flip, your race is done.

Something similar happed to me when I was racing the FOX on SO1. I was behind a person who kept braking at the last sweeping corner, before the start / finish straight. I figured I would be a nice guy, let him stay in front of me for the whole race so I could observe. At the end of the race, I told him (gently!) that there was no need to brake there or at the chicane, just keep it at half throttle, and put faith into the FOX's suspension.

He thanked me, and next race, knocked of more than half a second on his fastest lap!

So for the fast guys: you can either say "you fookin idiot! LEARN TO DRIVE11!!" or give advice at the end of the race that benefits everyone, thus making the race smooth and accident free.

Wow, looks like you cannot take a joke. Pity.

And if you want to get into politics, I only have this to say to you:

Central Powers. Your country has had its share of bloody violence, too. How about Dolfuss and fascism?

So THANKS!

No....THANK YOU Scawen, for not just releasing a highly anticipated patch and THEN fixing the problems it had. Because of your persistence, the transition is smooth, the bugs are beat back, and all is good in the LFS world.

I, and I am sure others will agree with this:

Take a long break from coding....you deserve it!

If I get a blue flag, I wait until there is a safe, straight stretch of track and then I ease the throttle to halfway, and move over and in a predictable fashion. When I ran the LeMans League, it worked perfectly when I enforced that rule concerning blue flags.

Also, save the "blue flag" b****ing" to when the race is done. You and the other person are not the only ones who see this message, and I am willing to bet it royally screws up other peoples concentration, potentially ruining their race.

And I have said this before, people who bind blue flag messages either do not know how to drive in real life, or are quite ignorant. And I have also noticed, are under the age of 20. Not EVERYONE, but quite a few.

Quote from AndroidXP :Quite fun to drive

I googled for car specs a bit, and it seems some are not 100% spot on. For example the rear diff should be a clutch pack (I believe actually a torsen, but we don't have that in LFS), only the center one is a viscous. Though I couldn't find any locking factors whatsoever, so I just put 25/25 with 50Nm preload.

Next, the torque split is supposedly 45% front instead of 50%, not that it makes much of a difference. And last, the (for racing ridiculously long) final drive should be 3.9 instead of 4.11 - the latter is only for auto transmissions, manual has a longer gearing. Can't say much else, other than that it is very fun to chuck around.

I was told by the Subaru tech I work with the differential specs. We were under a WRX last Friday and I asked him how the diffs are set up. Starting from the front, he told me it is open viscous, viscous. He has been working on them for 30 years...

Torque split on my car (2007 MY) is 50/50, so that is what I based it on...but you are right, 5% does not make or break it. The gear ratios I found were from a 2002-2005 WRX, I could not find ones for a 2006 on up.

Whatever the case, I hope everyone enjoys it. I may try an STI set, but engine output will suffer, obviously.

Quote from Widdowmaker :Not bad - pull away is pretty close - THe front of the car lifts big time - which is pretty comparable, gear changing points are about right - on redline - 2nd to 3rd at about 60 - 3rd to 4th in the 85 region, into 5th about 105 - and through 5th to 136 ish - prety close.

Brakings a bit suss tho - This set will only brake in a straight line - with the back end wanting to come around alot. I suppose if I pulled my ABS fuse then it would react pretty much the same.

Cornering, pretty close again - the front of the car wallows a bit and does want to go straight on, but normally - (around the bigger round abouts) a little throttle and the rear end steps out and driffts out. This set tends to see a bit side ways slide in to the wall.

Not bad at all.

Which MY variant is your friends WRx that this was based on - that could amount to the difference in handling from my point of view - classic/bugeye/blobeye/hawkeye?

Thanks! I own a 2007 WRX, so the Hawkeye. Or pig nose.

Quote from Bob Smith :Interesting, I wonder how it will differ from my road going set...

Actually, I was hoping you were going to post! It is based off your road going set, I added ballast, reduced power, a little more camber, a smidge of toe in, a few tweaks on the suspension, same with the diffs, and different gearing.

But all in all, I did not have to change much! Truth be known, I am pretty impressed that you got it so close!

Good that you stopped. It is perfect as it is.
WRX setup for the RB4.
jayhawk
S2 licensed
This took a few hours, alot of research, and a few drives in my own personal WRX.
Some of the specs like gear ratios and camber are real, whereas spring rates were something I had to eyeball and test. If you download it, the RB4 will look like a log truck, but I did that to simulate the massive amount of suspension travel this car has. I think only a 92-00 Civic has more.
And like a real WRX, if you let off the gas mid corner, it will oversteer. I tried my very best to simulate the neutral/slightly understeer character the WRX has in real life.
I do hope you enjoy it, Scoobie fans!

I understand WHY Scavier uses kilo Newtons, because it is a constant force, but it would be easier if, for example, spring rates would be shown in kilos and centimeters.

Want to make a real car setup? Unsure of conversion?
jayhawk

For whatever reason, LFS uses kilo Newtons per square meter in the suspension setup. If you know what spring rates are on a real car, and convert them to LFS's system, use this:
