If she's fat as feck, and you say "Of course you're not fat" then she's going to lose respect for you, because you're lying to her and both of you know it.

Thing is, you can't say "Yes, you're fat, why don't we both go for a jog?"

The whole fat thing is is just daft. If they are fat / look fat, they must know it. They know you know it. Why live in denial and make you lie to them about it?

Just miss some meals and get jogging missus.

I went from a ti4200 to a 7600GT, and even though max frame rates have multiplied by quite some margin, minimum fps is often the same, and sometimes I'm sure is actually LOWER.

Quote from Scawen :So, he will be banned until he explains to us how the cheat works. Simple as that. By the way, the ban is only for 100 days anyway, it's not even a permanent ban.

So will this person's ban be lifted after 100 days if he still refuses to reveal the workings of his cheat?

I thought this centre sping 0% thing was a non issue. Or had been solved. I've never felt any benefit / problem either way.

I think this is a Logitech driver issue.

The following info is just what I have gleaned / guessed. I'm not an authority on Logitech's drivers.

The infamous crap momo calibration pedal problem prompted Logi to change the way the calibration is read and stored (momo pedal fix, later incorporated into the drivers). It updates itself as the pedals are being used. Problem is, say for example the brake pedal loses it's calibration, the driver will soon recalibrate, but the input will sometimes immediately go to 100% and stay there until you've pushed the all the way down - not a good thing if you're approaching a hairpin bend at 130mph - you lightly touch the brake and you get fully locked wheels. Hello wall usually.

Some sims don't seem to suffer this problem as much as others. I mostly had it happen in NR2003 (I think the pedal data is read differently).

To solve it I bought Leo Bodnar's USB board (cheap!) and wired the pedals to go straight to the PC, independent of the Logi drivers. No problemo from then on.

Hope this helps.

I agree it is stupid to render perfectly good equipment (almost) useless, especially when you consider that the G25 is supposed to be a limited item. That is they were going to make a set number, and that was it.

You're right, I'm sure it's done to stop people selling their older wheel. They really ought to just send out the needed part, ie wheel, pedal unit or shifter. They don't supply spare parts either. So if / when the pots go bad on one of the pedals (within warranty) I'll be getting a whole new unit, and I'll be cutting plugs again illepall

I had to get my G25 replaced due to a faulty brake pedal. I would have been happy with just a new pedal set but they don't deal with individual elements of the unit!?

Logitech asked for the plugs, all of them, to be cut and sent to their Switzerland offices. You get a specific RMA number and I was told they need these plugs to close the RMA procedure.

I considered not bothering, as I thought they probably won't chase up. However, I did in the end, because if I have further problems in warranty, I may not get support if it is shown that I didn't return the plugs as asked. It is a £170 unit after all. Their customer support has been excellent, so I think it's right.

I'll try and fix the pedals, plus connect them to a USB device with a bit of wiring up. The old wheel now lacks it's USB connection plug, but USB has standard colour coding, so I should be able to fix an old USB plug to it; gives me a spare wheel. The shifter of course is useless without it's plug. I'll probably just open it up and have a poke around

Quote from bbman :That doesn't mean those sims are good, it just means HE is good in pushing the limits of mentioned sims, nothing more...

Quite true. As I say, I don't defend or promote any sim, I race to enjoy myself.

And the gentleman in question is generally better than most (possibly all?) at pushing the limits in any sim.

This is no way an attack on Americans, but I do recall a (funny) quote from a WW2 german soldier.

"When the English sent their bombs, we ducked. When we sent our bombs, the English ducked. When the Americans sent their bombs, everybody ducked."

I can see some validity in every sim out there. I don't race ISI based sims often - mostly cos I haven't got round to buying them, I just stick to nkpro mostly and LFS.

But the best sim racer the universe has ever seen races ISI sims, more than any other sim at the moment I would wager. So they can't be all bad.

A few bad attitudes here do not do LFS any favours at all. I don't know people here well enough to name names (I wouldn't want to), but it seems whenever sim related characters from without venture in here, they get mauled. They may have their own agendas for coming in, they may genuinely want to help, but the end result often seems be a big falling out.

As a member of this community myself, the impression is that some folk here can be a litttle too defensive, and difficult to communicate with. It shouldn't be that hard to remain reasonably polite. Even people who try to better this sim from within get a really hard time.

Again, I know it's not the majority, and it's just my perception, but the devs ought to be concerned about the impression being created by it's own community. The vast majority are positive and courteous, but I'm afraid that LFS is getting a sim wide reputation for being unfriendly, uncooperative, insular and just basically not very approachable.

Yep, all in all Logi are winning in my opinion. That Thrustmaster wheel wouldn't even work on a an Nforce2 mobo. They knew about the issue, but refused to do anything about it.

On the other hand, the Thrustmaster belt / pully driven FF was definitely better than the gear type DFP / G25 FF.

Quote from JTbo :Also I don't understand how force effects are completely different when wheel is set to for example 400 or 720, strength of effects for example is different, then there is no sharpness in them or something.

I imagine that because of the rotational speed limiting factor mentioned earlier, to stop the DFP bursting into flames, having to move the wheel more means that info / data is obviously going to take longer to be updated.

The DFP only polls its data 125 times per second, which you might think is plenty. But since I've had the G25, with it's better gear reduction (therefore quicker turning) plus 500 polls per second, I've really noticed a difference in the sharpness and lower lag. Lag which previously I would have put down to my shoddy driving. For example, I noticed this in nkpro - where before I would self spin, I just thought I was crap, but the G25 lets me catch and correct spins easier. In LFS I've only been racing the UF1000 car since I got the G25, but it still feels better.

These jumps in technology do make a difference. When I had a Thrustmaster wheel, the resolution of the steps was only a bit over 100. Terrible. When I was trying to reach top speeds, this lower resolution meant that a small correction on a straight for example, would turn the front wheels enough to actually scrub speed from the car! Once I got the DFP, I actually had higher top speeds because the corrections could be so much more precise.

Thankyou. I thought perhaps you had to apply for a license or something. It's all automated then?

I raced for a while on the UF1 server yesterday and had some good races. Do you receive a password for the higher servers when you progress, or is the whole thing automated?

Quote from Bawbag :If you buy a new DFP then the pedals shouldn''t give you "nightmares" as the later released DFP's have been reinforced inside to make them last much longer.

They weren't reinforced exactly, they had new pots. I had both revisions of the pedals, and had them open many times. The Rev B pots are bigger, sturdier, metal can type pots and are significantly better than the Rev A tiny craptastic ones.

However, if you are a very heavy user, then the pots may wear out anyway. I had my Rev A pedals replaced with Rev B when they packed in, and they in turn needed replacing after only six months due to bad spiking. They can be cleaned, but I chose to use my warranty and had some new ones sent. Then I opened them and cleaned the pots. The second set also wore out after about six months of heavy use. So I had two sets, which if used a lot, would need contact cleaner on the pots every couple of months.

Worryingly, the G25 pots look to be a similar type to the ones in the DFP, but with the much better design, gearing mechanism, anti backlash spring and increased pot rotation, they should last longer, but they will wear out. BRD et al look to use very high quality pots which last for years. For the cost of the G25, they really should have gone in this direction.

DFP wheel is good, but the pedals will just give you nightmares again.

The G25 pedals are very good, and apart from a lack of buttons, the wheel is excellent too.

And another piece of info - the DFP polls it's data to the computer 125 times per second. The G25 updates 500 times per second. I had a DFP for three years, and this improvement is vastly noticeable to me, the sharpness of the wheel is very apparent.

Crammond's GP4 is said to have the most advanced AI. Good wet racing too. I played it when it came out but it was very resource hungry, haven't tried it since, but all the GP range had good AI and covered the whole F1 race weekend thing really well.

Plus you could save mid race and therefore continue a whole season at your leisure.
