at least an SSD will retain data if the power goes out, or the system reboots.

bump?

i found myself digging this up again, seeing as my atom can't play many FPS games... does anyone still play it? i know quakewars has been out for a while, but from what i've heard it wasn't that great.

on the topic of true combat and urban terror being ported to ET, i can't say i liked them as much as i did the original q3 mods. perhaps they've gotten better since i tried them last, but they didn't have the same feel as they used to.

Quote from Glenn67 :I remember not too long ago when gold was US$180/ounce

what, in the 70's?

http://goldprice.org/30-year-gold-price-history.html

Quote from Intrepid :There were a fair few investors saying gold was the best investment a few years ago. I bought then when it was around $700 an ounce. It's now $1750

my coworker bought two bars at $1000, and he even suggested i buy one, but i didn't have the money at the time. even though i'm doing better financially than i have in previous years, i still wish i had the money to buy in when it was cheap. kindof kicking myself, but that's what happens when you make bad decisions with your money.

Quote from dadge :would you say a UPS is a good investment?

it depends on how your input voltage is, as well as caring whether the machine goes offline if the power goes out.

Quote from MadCatX :Outervision PSU Calculator

for comparison, it says i should have a 300W power supply for my i7.

Quote from MadCatX :Seriously, I don't see what would you need a 900W PSU for.

i concur. i bought a pair of 650W kingwin power supplies not knowing my true usage, now that i have a UPS with a usage display, i know that my i7 uses 100W at idle. and that's with 4 hard drives. my prescott uses more than that, and it also has 4 hard drives.

my i7 920 runs fine on the stock cooler... and north america had some sort of heat wave a couple weeks ago, it was 40C out, with a humidex of 50C...

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :Has anyone tried the DrivingVanishY parameter? Which way moves the view "up"? In LFS I like to make it so I can just see what I need to see in the cars and the rest is all the track. Thanks.

i'll take a wild guess and assume that negative (or lower) numbers mean the viewpoint goes up. you might want to consider changing your fov though.

Quote from yzmxer608 :Thanks, I'll have to try that.

Well I got my G27, I'm SO much worse with it than my controller it's not even funny. One major thing I'm having problems with is spinning out, if I get even a little sideways I start swapping and spin out. There's nothing I can do to save it, what do you have to do to save it? I'm not even trying to drift, it just happens when going around corners. I turned the FF down to 30's in the profile setup and around 55 in-game, otherwise it was too much and I could barely control the wheel.

are you maybe turning too hard or using too much gas?

Quote from nullsys :The car really wants to swing out when I brake into corners, and often when I'm just coasting.

i've always felt that FWD cars do that no matter what. perhaps your brake bias is too far back. try 70%. as for when it's coasting, maybe you're turning the wheel too far?

from what i can tell, the TSX was the only north american stock composite index to lose any points today... the nasdaq and the nyse composite indicies were both up today.

edit: i just checked the dow jones index, it was only down 100 points overall today. blah.

Quote :English comedian Rowan Atkinson was not laughing after he crashed his McLaren F1 supercar into a lamppost in wet weather overnight.

One witness said Atkinson was lucky to be alive after losing control of the rare vehicle, clipping trees and a lamppost before coming to a stop on the side of the road and bursting into flames.

when he did his interview on top gear, he said he put 37K miles on that f1... eek.

the open configurations cause a massive fps drop. by principle, i don't think i'll ever race them.

Quote from jasonmatthews :Like BBT said, it is a big opportunity for Scawen and LFS.

personally, i disagree, the boat sailed when GT5 got delayed repeatedly and then was finally released. as much as i prefer PC-based simracing, LFS could have picked up a lot of players last summer.

but it's funny to hear that iracing took a step backwards though. i've tried it a couple times and didn't like it. it doesn't look right, it doesn't feel right. rfactor was the same way with me. and even though lfs' graphics engine is from roughly the same time, it looks so much better imo. playing rfactor or iracing make me feel like i'm playing a 15 year old game.

Quote from NorbiWRC :i'm not sure, where can i find this setting ?
i checked power options in control panel, but can't find that profile set to performance.

oh sorry, windows names them differently. my mistake. the one you're looking for is either "always on" or "presentation", i forget which the good one is.

Quote :Sorry to hijack the thread ere, But how long do good laptop batteries last? I kind of want one, But i don't want it if i can only maybe get 4 hours max. :/

that depends on capacity and rate of discharge. we'd need to know the make/model of said laptop to determine the run time.

what is the brake bias set to? i think race_s' bias is 74%, i'd try backing it off to 70% to put less braking force on the front wheels.

i don't think that's limp bizkit... tunatic and midomi don't recognize it, and googling some of the lyrics don't return anything.

one of the problems of songs downloaded from limewire were that they were never tagged properly. i've seen rap labelled as limp bizkit.

i'd try running it through musicbrainz, but my laptop's been on the blink.
