Just to get to grips with drifting with the wheel, try setting the FF to 10%, 270* rotation and compensation to 1.0. Once you get good with that, up the rotation to 360 then 540 then 720.

drifting on 720 is not really practical with the DFP. Drop the FF down to about 15% and set it to 270 in game with 0 compensation. As for racing, I use 540 with 1 compensation.

It would be cool to see these additions but only once the sim is completely finished. I'd rather the teams energy went on perfecting LFS as a car racing simulator first and foremost.

I got some blue-tac and stuck some furry dice and a magic tree air freshner to the side of my monitor, shaved seconds off my PB's.

HDR can look good in places but I find a lot of game developers are really overdoing it with a lot of games of late. Bloom lighting can look almost as good for a much smaller performance hit.

This will be all over the UK before you know it. Driving around in 3rd gear, cos lets face it, you'll never see 4th gear at 20mph, will see us using a lot more petrol, more petrol equals more tax equals more money for the government. Not to mention the money they will rake in from speeders as some people and cars just can't function properly on a road at 20mph.

Motorists in the UK are being held to ransom, if it's not one thing it's the other. If I didn't have a wife and kid to cart around (and I wasn't so lazy) I would buy a bike, or even worse, walk.

The Inferno setups rock, I'd be lost without them. Either that or i'd still be pestering people in servers for setups.

It's sad to hear this but Top Gear is so hugely popular that there would be race circuits all over the UK falling over themselves to have top Gear set up camp at their circuit.

The damage isn't exactly modelled, it's more of a deterrent against wreckless driving. If you drive like a maniac then the chances are you're gonna clip a wheel on a kerb or sideswipe a wall and mess your car up so the current damage system makes you think a little before doing something a bit crazy.

The cars look ok to me, especially with the new reflection mod. There's something very clean about LFS graphics and I hope they don't change too much or go over the top when the newer DirectX versions are implemented.

That marshall getting halved in 2 was particularly nasty, the car didn't even budge as it tore through him. Tragic.

Just as a one off, couldn't you set it up for him using MSN's remote desktop assistance feature?

I think he should try and hold his breath for 7 days the next time In all honesty though I do like the guy, he's a great illusionist, but he's kinda trying too hard with these unspectacular modern art stunts. I think he feels that he's destined to be one of the great legends of the magic/illusionist world, like houdini, copperfield and Paul Daniels I preferred blane when he was a doing street magic instead of this arty pap.

I think his work will be more appreciated when he's dead though, especially if he dies during a stunt, but knowing him his ego would get in the way and he'd have to be ressurected the following Sunday, of course it would all be televised and he'd be seen emerging from a cave, pushing a huge egg shaped rock down a hill that was blocking the entrance to the cave. He'd then start selling chocolate eggs every year to symbolize and commemorate the moving of that rock at his ressurection.

Cockpit is the only view to use. It's a Sim we're playing and immersion is all part of the Sim experience, any other view just seems wrong.

I firmly believe the fear factor plays a huge part in peoples ability to drive fast. Some people learn to push through the fear factor and that's how you become a great driver, but you have to trust every aspect of that vehicle to push it to the limit. You have to know the tyres are in good condition and at the right pressure for high speeds, you have to trust your mechanics or your own mechanical ability if you are working on your own car because one mistake or mechanical error in real life can mean you're dead. Real life doesn't have a Shift-S feature.

With that said, if you were to take 2 men with average driving skills and told them to meet you at a race track in 1 months time for some racing lessons, and gave one of them a good force feedback setup and pedals, gearstick etc.. and a copy of LFS installed of course and the other guy just went about his business as normal. I bet you any money the guy who played LFS for 1 month would progress a lot faster than the other, if for no other reason than just having seen how that racing enviroment works.. apex's, racing lines, braking zones, drafting, opponent awareness etc..

It was Zorrofox who mentioned the Ecurie Ecosse, I think that's a good name too, even though their shoes would be rather hard to fill

For a slogan, we could have "Made in Scotland, from Girders"

For Team names... how about The Flying Scots, Celtic Connection or The Scotia barons.

I like the single seaters, the GT's the LX's and the RA5 and the MRT. I like a bit of rally cross as well and the occasional drift.

This one below has been around for a while, I've been using that one. Well done though for taking the time to skin your own, I wouldn't know where to begin.

It's a nasty combo is the fox and SO1( ina good way ), there's always a small group of newer drivers that just don't know how to drive it. I know because I was one of them up until quite recently. I wasn't driving poorly to the extent that I was in the way, but I wasn't competitive.

Then a guy called ash from ASR team I think, he just goes right outta the blue "Here mate try this set" then he specced me and talked me through a few laps of the circuit, then I specced him and he showed me where to gain time. I smashed my PB on that track and I've won a few of my last 10 races on the circuit and came second or third on the other races (and still fluffed a few of course ).

So, instead of banning peeps from servers we should try and help them raise their game. Invite them to sit in spec for a lap or 2 and let them try your set. I know a lot of people don't have time for anything other than a quick session and they want to get the most out of what little time they have on LFS and they don't need to be schooling noobs.

I see people making a lot of drift videos and other flashy vids but I havent seen any videos of people doing tutorials on car/track combos. It would be an excellent addition to the community if people started posting training videos in the beginner section that talked the viewer through a decent lap, not world record material, just a clean quick lap with advice on braking points and apex's and what gears to use at certain sections of the track, with a link to the setup used.

I'd do it myself but I'm still learning a noob so it would be like the blind leading the blind

Could it possibly be a heat issue? It's got hotter in the Uk recently and you could have a chinchilla sized ball of fluff living inside your PC case causing poor ventilation and high CPU/GPU Temps.
