I use my left foot for braking and I often trailbrake but I am relatively new to LFS and by no means lightening fast, I'm sure one of the more experienced racers can give you a bit more insight.

This concept sounds a lot like the up and coming "Test Drive Unlimited" for the Xbox360. http://www.testdriveunlimited.com/

Just a pity there will be no steering wheel support and the physics will probably be arcadey. Damn you LFS for raising the bar so high, I remember when I was happy playing NFS with a gamepad, then I discoevered LFS and bought a DFP, now my xbox 360 and project gotham is collecting dust.

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :Yes but you can only use it at KY

That should read "You can only use it WITH KY" as you would have to lube everyone up to fit 15 people in a mini

I don't really see LFS as unfinished or even in a beta state for that matter. The sim is such an organic piece of software I don't think it will ever really be finished. I hope LFS will continue to evolve to the stage where it just becomes as realistic as virtual racing can possibly get, at which point the only room for improvement will be with new track and car content.

I'm new to the LFS scene so I guess it's still easy for me to get excited about the sim. I just hope it continues to improve at any rate.

I often short shift with the F08 off the start line. It's not as fast off the line with this method but it's a lot safer.

@Bramski

I hear ya mike, I've been putting it off and putting it off as my luck dictates that as soon as I open the pedals all possible moving parts will be knocked out all over the place and my dog will eat one of the pentomiters or something

Kidding aside though I've been reading a few web pages tonight on how to sort out the pedal problem and I'm gonna tackle it tomorrow.

I found that drifting is now impossible with my DFP too. I could drift endlessly around FE gold reverse when I was using my x360 gamepad and since getting my DFP I just can't go back to the pad, not even just for drifting, as I feel like a fake. If I can't do it with the wheel then I shouldn't do it at all :ashamed:

Glad you got it sorted.

Quote from skooby :Why combined? Most other configs state seperate.

I use combined in LFS as my brake pedals on the DFP seems to come on intermittently if I use seperate whilst Im going down straights. Seperate will be better if your pedals aren't tempremental as you can create oversteer in the rallycross with left foot braking.

Try in the options>throttle/brake axis/combined.

Also make sure that in the wingman settings or inthe game controller panel in windows that the pedals are reported as being combined.

I have a 21 inch CRT monitor that I use for LFS when I want to drive during the day and I have a Sanyo Z3 high definition projector that I use at night which gives me an image of about 110" although you can have a much bigger image (or smaller) if you're space allows. The only downside with projectors is that they need to be used in a light controlled enviroment as heavy sunlight will make your image look washed out and I don't really like sitting like a vampire with all the curtains closed during the day if I want a racing session.

LCD monitors are good, but for a large one you will pay almost the same as what you would for a HD projector. If I had to choose between the 2 I would go for the projector as the experience is much more immersive when playing on such a large screen.

I think LFS has Natural looking graphics especially if you can crank up the AA and AF, I play on 1600x1200 with 6aa and 16af and to me it looks stunning, sure there's no fancy DX9 effects and theres still a lot of room for subtle graphical enhancments like windscreen dirt and the odd splatted fly or 3 but apart from that I'm more than happy with LFS's graphics and I'm also playing games like project gotham 3 on the xbox 360 as well as rFactor, GTR, richard burns and GPL and LFS holds its own against them.

As for handling. You really need to try the full game as you will most certainly feel like you're wrestling with a beast of a car when you're cornering at 150 mph in the GTR cars.

As I said, I own and play most of the other sims regularly and LFS for me still has it's own unique appeal which is lacking in other games, just as rF and GTR have their own unique qualities.

If I could only have one though it would probably be LFS for no other reason than the ability to jump online any time night or day and find a busy server as I love multiplayer racing, even though I end up in the back of the pack

Quote from GrandSurf :Done, and my Son now Race with the first one

Good stuff mate. I wish my dad was as cool as you when I was a kid, although my old pa was one hell of a darts player and tought me how to throw well, it's just not the same as a fully blown racing simulator

Great setup

Im not 100% sure but I think the pedals could be plugged into a midi gameport on a soundcard. I'll check it out on mine later and see if there's anything available in the control panel.

Another thing I like about LFS is the fact that no matter what time of day or night I go online there's always a good race happening in a server with lots of players.

And I still can't find out how to turn off that beep noise that happens each time someone types in a message during a race, It's really distracting. Could someone please be so kind and tell me how to turn it off.

Cheers.

Quote from Barroso :if only the nordschelife would make it to lfs...i only play gtl cuz of that

If only indeed sir. I still play GTR for that very reason, the nordschleife. I wish the guys at LFS would allow just one custom track tp be worked on by the community and added to the game. It would add an amazing new dimension to the sim as the skill and maturity levels of the LFS community would allow for some of the best multiplayer experiences available on the ring.

I have a dfp and I couldn't really pick out any faults in it other than the pedals are a bit sucky but all the other entry level setups have crap pedals too so it's not on it's own. I thought the shifter buttons would be too small and awkward at first, but to be honest I rarely find myself in a jam when reaching for the gears as most of the driving in games like LFS and rF etc is precision driving so you're already lined up and in gear for a clean entry anyways.

I sometimes struggle with the shifters when trying to drift or Rally cross in LFS sometimes but you should be using the gearstick for that type of driving anyway so it's not really an issue.

Another thing with the DFP is the build quality, it looks a bit toyish on the surface but it's supposedly quite solid with metal bearing and fittings inside similar to the momo red, the black momo has plastic fittings and can often lead to play in the wheel, dead spots and crunching noises after it's seen a bit of use.

Sorry to jump in with a question to a question but can you tell me if I need to patch my copy of LFS if I only downloaded and unlocked my copy a few days ago?
