Graphics Progress Report: Lighting research

Hello Racers,

Our previous progress report was about the Kyoto updates and the new lighting system.
Since then, Scawen has done more work on the lighting which may be interesting for some readers.
Eric continued with Kyoto for some time.

Graphics Progress Report: Westhill

Hello Racers,

For this month's progress report we will show you some images of the updated Westhill track.

As Westhill is one one of our more modern track areas, it didn't need to be reworked as heavily as some of the others.

Textures have been updated to take advantage of the new lighting system, new 3D kerbs have been added and there are various scenery updates around the track.

Graphics Progress Report: Autocross

Hello Racers,

We have been working on graphics for some time now.
A new lighting system allows more varied and realistic surface properties and we have a new shadow system.
All tracks must be updated to take advantage of the new features.

Graphics Progress Report: Aston

Hello Racers,

In the August and September progress reports we talked about the new shadows and lighting system and showed pictures of the updates on the Blackwood and Rockingham tracks.
All our tracks must be updated to use the new lighting system and some older tracks need more changes to bring them up to date.
Aston is one of them and is the subject of this month's report.

Graphics Progress Report: Rockingham

This month you can see some screenshots of the Rockingham track, including real vs virtual comparisons, and a few pictures of shadows working with moving objects and the layout editor.

Graphics Progress Report: Blackwood

Hello Racers,

We have been working on graphics most of the time since early 2017 and we can now show you some of the results.
You will instantly notice the the new detailed shadows and shine on the road surfaces.
Looking around, you will start to see that many more surfaces have some sort of shine level.

New Version 0.6T - More robust multiplayer system

Hello LFS Racers,

Today we have released a new update.
After some disruptive attacks that took place recently we were forced to make our website and multiplayer systems more robust.
As an update was needed, we took the opportunity to do a few more improvements, including some extensive changes to the layout editor.

New Version 0.6R - Blackwood Update

Hello LFS Racers,

We are pleased to announce a much improved version of the Blackwood racing environment.
Textures and detail have been updated all around and a new Historic course is included in addition to the original GP and Rallycross tracks.
For licensed racers, a new industrial estate area is accessible through the open configuration.

New Version 0.6Q

Hello Racers!

Today we are pleased to announce a new update with graphical improvements, better controller support and more.

The main graphical update is a new system to simulate the mirrors realistically.
Each mirror's image is drawn from a separate reflected location, so the interior mirror looks out through the rear window and you can see the sides of your car in the side mirrors.

Hello Racers,

It has been an interesting month for Virtual Reality, with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets now being shipped to customers.
Live for Speed is so good to use in VR, it was our top priority to make sure it works with the new headsets and latest software.

We are pleased to announce a new release with an updated Rockingham track and many more fixes and improvements.

LFS now supports a borderless window mode that has various advantages including much better support for multiple monitor setups.
New features have been added to the interface and the layout editor.

New Version 0.6K

Dear LFS Racers,

We are pleased to announce a new version of Live for Speed, 0.6K, which contains the Rockingham race track.
Located in Corby, England, Rockingham is an oval track with many infield configurations.
Thanks to the owners, we were allowed to hire APR Services to laser scan the real track area in 2008.

New Version 0.6J

Hello Racers,

We are pleased to announce a new update of Live for Speed with some very good performance improvements.
Various systems have been updated to reduce the work done by the graphics card and the CPU.
The simulator runs more smoothly and you can choose a higher frame rate or run your computer more efficiently and consistently with a limited rate.

New Version 0.6H

Dear Racers,

A new update of Live for Speed is available, with a newly rebuilt and extended version of the Westhill racing environment.
The International configuration has been improved and a new National configuration is included, along with two kart tracks which are fun for the smaller cars.
The access roads are driveable if you select an open configuration, so there is a lot to explore!

New Version 0.6G

Dear Racers,

You can now download a new update of Live for Speed with graphical improvements and support for the Oculus Rift DK2.

The main visual improvement is related to objects with transparency, such as trees and railings.
In most cases we have been able to improve their appearance a lot by using a new drawing style.

Test Patch for Oculus Rift DK2

Dear LFS Racers,

We have developed a first version of support for the new Oculus Rift DK2.
Although it's not finished, people have been enjoying it a lot.

If you do have a Rift and would like to try it out, first install LFS version 0.6F from our downloads page then install the test patch available from this thread on our forum.
