jibber: really liking 38 (the bird), awesome depth of field.
Quote from jibber :It has been a long time since i've taken any photos that I felt are worth to be shared. I didn't have the time anmore to seriously "go outside and take pictures"... or didn't have the camera with me in the "wrong" moments. I think it's been almost a year since i've taken any decent photograph.

Now i finally got the chance to take a few shots again, on a two day business trip to morocco.

(the six latest shots are from morocco (click on "all sizes" to see the large version))

Taken with a D80 and an 18-200mm lens. In all six shots, I slightly changed the brightness and contrast with photoshop.

Wow, Jibber. You need to pick up the camera more often! You have a fantastic eye for light and composition. Stunning work, both pages worth.

#26 is possibly the best flower shot I have seen yet in all the flower shots I have viewed since getting into this photography stuff, and that's a lot of flowers I've looked at in photography forums.
Thanks a lot!

Quote from Scrabby :Spook, nice shots there. The 2nd pic u did that with very low shuttertime? (me just wanna learn with my noob experiance)

That picture was taken with a shutter speed of 30sec at f32. The dots are where the cars were braking.
It's time for something small..
Fist is Saturn and then a Clow-worm (Lampyris noctiluca - Wiki). I though to spare you of out-of-focus pics, but this should give you some idea what it is. All taken with my random P&S camera.

I just got a 40D the other day. Can't wait to get some pics with it. I love how it fits in my hand comfortably without the need for a battery grip. Looking at my xti next to it the xti looks like a tiny point and shoot. 6.5fps sounds like a machine gun!
What does everyone prefer? images within the post, as long as they are not too big? (I resize down to 600 on the long side for the net) Or do you all prefer links?

Personally, I prefer images sized down and posted directly in the post, but was just wondering other's opinions......

I mentioned a while back of going to the RC air show. The wife came with me this time, mostly to whisk the 4 year old away and back home since she starts to whine and cry after a very short period to go home any time we go somewhere. So, after showing up, seeing one plane fly, grabbing some of their burgers and hot dogs for lunch that they sell there, the wife wants to go shopping. Have fun, I say to the 2 of them. But, she kidnaps the 7 yr old and talks her into going shopping!!!!!!! Man, I was ticked as this has been Lauren and my thing every year to go see the RC show.

Oh well.... I only got 2 good shots for the short time we were there.

So, a few weeks ago, we visited an old flour mill. It's pretty cool.....

I've been pretty hectic the last week or two and haven't had many opportunities to get out and about. I headed up to Edinburgh a few days ago to drop something off and decided to go gently down the coast road on the way back. Unfortunately, not every wonderful view makes for a perfect photo, so I didn't come back with many photos worth sharing. Here are a few I've picked off on the rare occasions I've had time to go anywhere recently!

Brilliant photo's Sam! Were you using any filters?
Thank ye kindly, sir! Yeah, for the photos by Malham (limestone outcrops), I used a graduated neutral density filter to prevent the sky getting completely bleached out. It was a really harsh, bright day. Usually I refuse to entertain the idea of using filters, but on this occasion it seemed like the only way to get anything like what I was seeing into the camera!

I love my ND Grad, I even used it for a set of outdoor portraits and they came out brilliant compared to if I hadn't used one.

Nice shots sir.
I'm still itiching for a new camera so badly. Being broke is rather inconvenient, ha. I tried to get out on friday, which didn't go so well. By the time I got to where I was going it was brutally humid, and my dumbass didn't bring any water. Needless to say, I didn't take many shots.

It was sort of reliving my youth, I used to live right by here when I was kid and would always be there. I thought it'd be fun to go back and take some pictures and see how things have changed.

I don't think this one is good, but I swear I see a face in that rock. Thats why I took it, and almost fell in the water stand funny on some slippery rocks to do it.

Doing it in camera > doing it in photoshop.

Here's a few snaps from a couple of weeks ago when I went to Durham Botanical gardens. Nothing serious or requiring a lot of effort, I had no tripod or anything and it was far windier than would be ideal.

All shot with A700 and Tamron 90mm.

Those look great Strobe.

Makes me jealous and wanting a new camera badly.

I took a bunch of pictures the last day of the Summer Nationals. They all have a light unsharpen mask to cut down on the crummyness of an 8 year old camera.

I took a bunch with a warming filter in B&W and all but 2 looked awful. I was let down by that, but I got a bunch of shots I liked.

Heres a couple samples.

All you n00bs with your expensive SLR's...

Point n' Shoots can still churn out some good images...

(wholly un-edited pics, btw - the backgrounds look gorgeous and I have NO idea why...)

Think i'll try to take some more pictures tomorrow - expect to see all my mad skillz come out in "auto" mode, y0!

Thanks.

They say that 90% of an image is made by the person holding the camera, so don't blame your equipment. Not that I mean it in an egotistical way - simple physics dictates that to get the kind of bokeh in my shots you need a decent sized sensor and a suitably fast lens. No photographic skill required, just open up the lens and shoot.

What is it you like about the 40D?

Of course they can. I've seen magazine-worthy fashion shots on location that were just taken with a decent Fuji compact. And yes, SLRs are a bloody money pit. Fortunately I got my A700 on special offer, combined with the Sony cashback, plus selling my old A100, meant I managed to upgrade for just under £400. But now I need a better general zoom lens. I'm very tempted to splash out for when I go to Amsterdam at the end of this month, but I don't really want to part with another £300 at the moment.
