circle jerking around control points = snore

been there done that 10 years ago
You can play Rush which is much more interesting, at least for me. There's also finally a classical team deathmatch.

Yeah, every single plyer on the map rushing at the same objectives and creating the ultimate cluster****. So interesting.

"This is one of the larger maps."

And, sigh, it's the size of a de_dust instead of like what we had in BF2.

And the kill cam is still enabled.

Not impressed at all.

Can't remember de_dust is that ****ing big to be honest...

Kill cam is an option that can be turned on/off in the server IIRC.

The area might look big from the jet but the the infantry combat looks (again) concentrated on like a just a 100m x 100m area in the middle.

Guessing from the beta Caspian Border and that gameplay vid is that we've seen that the biggest maps are just deathmatch styled gameplay and tuned to the max for the hyperactive ADD crowd. Makes me sad the long(ish) distances of BF2 are not present in BF3 because of a design choice and not a hardware limitation, which makes it even worse.
So is it just like BF2, where whoever gets in the jets can rape everything on the ground for the entire round, and anybody who doesn't get in a jet is missile fodder for the next 30 minutes? Or did they make it possible to shoot jets down from the ground this time?

It's more air vs air and ground vs ground. Jets can attack the ground, but need to be more concerned on other aircrafts. I believe the choppers will be the ones affecting the ground the most.

However I have seen people taking out aircrafts when on the ground. Takes effort but can definitely be done.
That will suck, then.

When it 'takes effort' to kill a jet, and it takes 'no effort' for a jet to kill ground targets, simple logic dictates that the game will consist of two to four players in jets raping the other 60 players on the ground. Wake Island 2007 all over again.

I don't get why people enjoy this.

What would be the point of aircrafts if any knob like you can easily take it down with putting 0 effort in it...

edit* Read what PMD wrote once again please.

Don't judge on it if you didn't try it yourself.

It's easier to get shot down from the ground in a plane then vice versa.
The jets are just a bit of fun. I mean you only have to watch a video of them. It's ott and daft plane based arcade shoot em up above a map with targets and threats that a fighter pilot would see for about 10 seconds if he was even low enough to.

I don't personally think it adds much to the game besides this "total war" type image, but they couldn't make a bf game without them now. The more they are made to work within a "game map" environment, the more absurd it becomes.
They make the game shitter for 90% of the people on the server. There are the people out in the map playing the game who will randomly get obliterated from the air every five minutes and can do nothing about it, then there are the people who will camp the jet spawns for their entire lives and teamkill eachother to get one, they just make the game more shit than it is without them.

It sounds like BF3 is BF2 but with better hit registration and nicer graphics. Online will just be a massive trollfest like it always was.
Played the beta for around 15 hours on metro and about 30 hrs on caspian.

In 30 hours of caspian, i didn't die from air attacks once. Took down quite a lot of heli's and jets with the stinger though

You got it wrong, you can only attack infantry with the MG, wich engineers are making hard since now they carry AA launchers with them, not to mention the other Jets constantly trying to take you out. Jets are good for taking out ground vehicles tho wich makes them quite balanced I think. And there's no more bombs.
If AA on the ground has just as much chance of shooting down a jet as the jet does of taking out armour, then they are balanced. But if ground vehicles are vulnerable to other ground vehicles and anti-tank weapons and aircraft, but aircraft only really have to concern themselves with other aircraft and can attack ground targets without a care in the world (like in BF2) then it will be a disaster.

I'm surprised nobody's waded in with cries about 'realism' yet, but if you want to play realistically then all the infantry should sit around looking at porn until the air force has destroyed everything, then the infantry can stroll in unarmed and put the flags up.

I think I mentioned that engineers are making attacking ground targets pretty hard, not that "aircraft only really have to concern themselves with other aircraft and can attack ground targets without a care in the world"
So can engineers actually shoot jets down, or can they simply make bleeping noises happen in the jet's cockpit, which can be safely ignored?
Quote from thisnameistaken :So can engineers actually shoot jets down, or can they simply make bleeping noises happen in the jet's cockpit, which can be safely ignored?

The first one.
So you actually saw some engineers shoot down some jets? This actually happened and you witnessed it? WITH YOUR EYES? YOUR ACTUAL EYES? :eye-poppi

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

In matter of fact, I actually shot one down myself.
