Quote from Becky Rose :I'm really not qualified to discuss in depth on the issue as i'm not a Playstation owner. An ex left me a playstation 2 once and I gave it away...

But as I understand it PSN does charge for it's plus service - so what in effect the free PSN is is a free demo version where you pay for the content you use individually. Does this accurately sum it up?

*shrug* It's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Sony are after your money, the method they use is the one that they feel will generate them the most money. That doesn't sound terribly "noble" to me. I wouldn't expect any company to act in a noble way frankly, so it's no fault of Sony. I just don't see the point of idolising them.

All of this is far far away from the original point though, which is that Sony were targetted because of what they represent, rather than any specific ill.

Although serving court papers on the friends of the hackers probably didn't win them any merit...

PSN works like gaming on ur pc, U dont pay for anything other than the game for it to work properly. M$ charges u a big fee for what is just a tarted up server browser for internet based games, Which is even more of a ripoff now that most games use p2p/ad-hoc instead of dedicated servers. Unlike free PSN lol, Thats why u get 32-256 player matches on PSN while the biggest i think u get on LIVE is 8-16 players, thats ruined by host advantage all the time too.

Even most of the media content available on LIVE gets sent straight from private internet servers and dont even get routed thru LIVE servers at all.

All u get extra if u pay for PSN+ is free online storage for ur saves, early accesss to betas n free PS1 and arcade games...
"A big fee" which is £20 per year, or £1.50 per month. What a rip-off. I could buy a can of Irn Bru for that.

Would you pay that fee for posting on a forum? Literally it's the same comparison..

Yea but its not some specialist different thing. It doesnt cost on Pc, Wii, Phones or PS3. It might not cost much but still, I shouldnt have to pay twice to use my internet, Especially when its our Xbox acting as the server most the times these days doing the job M$ should be doing...

At the end of the day its internet gaming and LIVE is a perfect working example of selling snow to eskimos...

Also is it not £50 in the shops? Its only cheap if u give M$ ur card details...
I often wish that every hackers PC in the world would blow up like a brick of C4 when they log on so Sony can do whatever they want to whoever they deem responsible within the law, I don't give a s***. I hope they catch at least one 'fall guy' and charge him with a count of identity theft for every account they gained access to.
I don't care what they do, I just want this fixed and sorted out.

There's more chance of the cash machine being rigged than MS doing anything slightly dodgy with your details, it seems that they actually secure personal data, why has no-one else though of that?

For the record, I have a PS3, I've never owned an MS console and I don't intend to, so I'm a very long way away from a MS fanboy, but pointlessly bashing them for irrelevant things just to try and take attention away from Sonys **** up is a bit pathetic. This is a thread about Sony, why did Microsoft even get brought up?

No one is trying to take attention away lol I'm not denying that they messed up big time, it didn't get to me that much as i use an internet credit card for PSN and i have like 2 euros on it now..
And Microsoft charging for air isn't exactly irrelevant thing

It is in a topic about Sony. If you don't like it, don't pay it.
It refferes to full PSN restoration though, online play might and will probably come earlier..
more importantly will they pay the fees to get new credit cards for all their customers?
Psn is opeeeeeen!!!!!!!!
Well atleast we are getting an update for psn
PSN update but still can't sign in..
Quote :We have been working on a new PS3 system software update that requires all PSN users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. The update (v3.61) is mandatory and is available now.

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN. This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.

We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online. The release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

I'll stay on 3.55 thanks.
And play with yourself eh..

I've got my PC for online gaming, I've only slightly dabbled a few years ago on PSN and I would rather not play with a bunch of pre-pubescents. Anyway, I like my OtherOS too much .

Sorry, for a moment I thought you were talking about XBL, have you ever PLAYED using the PSN? Doesn't sound like you have.

I've played Warhawk and Fifa plenty, it's full of screaming kids and the quality of online gaming ****ing sucks. I play iRacing and COD4 online on my PC and it's far more enjoyable than any game I've ever played online on PSN. My PS3 is for OtherOS, playing single player games and playing Fifa, Fight Night or UFC with my mates.
