Quote from MadCatX :I keep wondering why are the devs so reluctant to drop a few lines once in a while. I don't demand any regular development reports, messages like "Hey guys, I took a vacation so no work has been done since the last report" once-twice a month would suffice. Come on guy, for all we know you might be working on some extremely detailed damage model or taking a course of surviving in Botswana. Would it really hurt you that much to spend few minutes informing us what's going on?

I must admit I agree with this post. It's not promosing anything but just keeping all the loyal lfs users in the loop that work is or isnt getting done and to give us a slight idea of when a patch will be ready. I mean I don't know if there's a patch due next week or in 5 years time. Is that too much to ask? I check lfsforum everyday for any sign of an update from the devs. I also think the devs should take the asking as a compliment as it's only due to the games quality that it affects people so much in hoping the game will continue to be updated.

I really hope they revert back to smaller patches more often than one big one every couple of years or so.

This is how developers should communicate with their users.
The development team of this game is not big, I think they are around 12 people (+-) . Each week one of the devs post their weeks work, sometimes screenshots and more. Even if plans are scarthes, there is nothing to report or just old news, they still posts.

That is why Anarchy Online has survived since 98-99 (release was 00, betas several years before) until now, and still continuing. Communication with their community and appreciate it - win win win.

Do you really think the devs will give any kind of release date after the VWS chaos anymore?
They propably won't. I would be happy with an another progress report. (More frequently though)
Shame that Scawen unsubscribed from this thread

I know it was wrong of my comparing a game you have to pay a monthly pay to play, and LFS which is a one-time-payment, but my aim is to show how developers communicate with their community. In AO there is one main dev, the prosject leader himself, but more than once you see the other developers taking their time to write progress reports, answering question, replying to suggestions from users and giving hints of what to come, it's so great to have that level of communication with the developers
Do you guys think this is going to change?
Quote from Nadeo4441 :Do you guys think this is going to change?

No.

And no amount of whining or politely asking for it is going to change that.

IMO.

"I hear it again and again that the reason that AO is "Still Alive" is our community and I have to agree. I can't thank you all enough for your support over the years...I can only promise you that we all respect the game and will continue to do our absolute best to continue making it better in the hopes of us all seeing another nine years together. We will get it done...we know how much it all means to you as it means that much to us."

Something like this from the LFS devs once in a while would be nice.
The devs basically stopped or reduced giving updates because any mention of some new idea would in the end lead to more whining if the idea didn't materialize or deliver in promised time like the VW... but they certainly do not have problems with ignoring* the whining right now for another reason. They probably won't change this but I think it's better to have whining about a patch that was delayed (at least it shows the game is alive) than bitching about lack of communication and going even as far as declaring the game dead.

* I mean like not allowing it to affect everything they do
At least they are not releasing 100 golden wrenches, you should see whats going down on the Team Fortress 2 forums.

If there was regular updates, expectations would be managed and there wouldn't be the disappointment, frustration and whining about slow progress of missed releases. In all fairness, the devs have never really subscribed to a frequency (weekly) that would achieve this. At best it's been months and that's just added to the problem.

Something has to change. Either there's a significant release, or the devs give some time frame. The community isn't going the wait forever, on some open ended promise of an update, that could be days months or years away, especially since it been so long since the last minor update. Else the dream of being a successfull indie developer is going evaporate, with the community.
Wrong.

They will wait and the whinge threads will carry on at there own pace unabated .

I am not in any way sticking up for the Devs but its there toy box and we will be handed out the odd plaything as they see fit.
what if they are waiting for the whining threads to stop coming, and this thread to stop being active before they release, to get us to figure out there is more to life then lfs and lerts
