First you have to think if the real companies that appear in adverts currently have PAID for that placement. If so they would not be happy if server admins could change them.

While the idea is fine and might give server admins revenue it raises the question of bandwidth etc. The client should also have the option to disable adverts.

Problems include objectionable material, people using stupid image sizes that effect FPS etc.

For me this should be so far down the to do stack that it will not get done. Lots of work to implement. Downloading, sizing, temp storage to not effect original adverts when on different server etc.

not -1 or +1 from me just 0 and only if client can disable like skin downloads.

TBH I would bet many would disable if they could.

Just drive in shift+F mode until you are happy with the track. Forget times and that sort of distraction and just drive.

Quote from ajp71 :What's different this time is we're not being bullshitted by opinions from 'real drivers' who've driven the sim for 5 minutes. Instead it is being used by an F1 team as a driver training (not marketing) tool if this F1 team thought rF was capable of producing a proper driver training tool they'd take the much easier option of licensing the ISI engine and avoid having to deal with an infuriating little man who has mastered race car physics but not customer service

rotf and so true.

One thing to point out. While the F1 team are using NKP with a far higher speed of physics integration, the F1 car in this version has different suspension geometry, diff, guessed downforce (Only had medium downforce data to work from) and any other bits of data changed that the team did not want to give out for the obvious reason.

So I would assume this has the character of an F1 car but does not really drive like the real one for the reasons above. The diff info alone could result in a complete change the character as F1 diffs are very complex.

The problem is the speed, coupled with lag and mixed abilities. Too many pile ups all the time

Quote from The Moose :What's causing the UI to crash for you guys then? It's perfectly stable for me.
You are using .net3.5?

It's simply not crashing on me either in the UI or in Game.

If you let me know what things in the UI are causing it to crash i'll get them added to the bugtracker.

I have had the UI fall over just clicking around the UI buttons on form etc. As I said before, it feels like Kunos uses the UI is a specific way/order when he tests and if you use it in a different way/order you get problems.

I know one bug without the need to check. On fresh install go to the driver screen and try and select settings/helmet etc before you hit create driver. Bang then CTD. A "good" developer would disable interface that can't be clicked yet in a given context. Only found as assumed driver context was ready as everything enabled.

Can't be bothered to detail the rest as that one shows Kunos can't even be bothered to think what interface elements should be disabled when they should not be selected. Just shows complete lack of testing or thought about UI.

This is what I mean by polish. Thinking what users might click when they are not meant to then stopping them from doing so. Simple thought patterns that ANY developer should have. I say this with 20 years dev experience and having to plug that sort of hole myself.

BTW: My rig has full .NET development environment fully patched as I dev for a living.

Quote from The Moose :If all people are worried about is the presentation then they can forget enjoying 1.03. I doubt very much that the UI is going to change at all. (apart from the multiplayer lobby needing some work, i see no need to change a thing)

That really wasn't/isn't the problem with nKPro....the main problems are FPS, join lag and multiplayer(for some..due to FPS)
If that is fixed then that will do for me.

If your looking for polish then you might as well just give up on it now.

Nobody means change the UI. What people mean is just fix the BUGS in it

The trouble with NKP is that it is just full of bugs that CTD. During my hour test I even needed to do a complete reboot because after one CTD while running a lap NKP refused to start again until a rebooted.

This is what people mean by polish. Does not matter WHAT the UI looks like, it just has to work. As I said in RSC, to fix the UI CTDs would take any dev with good attention to detail far less than a week. The stupid UI bugs just make NKP look sloppy

The reasons the towers came down is simple. The OUTER wall was the structural part of the building. Each floor in the WTC was hung on the outer walls.

Once the integrity of the structure was compromised and one floor fell it caused the shocking but stunning almost perfect collapse of the building. Each floor faling to the lower one causing a chain reaction.

BTW: For those without knowledge of flying big jets. It is not acctually that hard. Landing takes a bit but to keep one in the air and fly into a big object it is VERY VERY simple.

This comes from someone with 100s of hours in commercial grade ($10,000,000+) full motion 737 & 747 sims. I used to work on them and I used to find plenty of "bugs" in my software that needed lots of sim time to "test" lol

Quote from The Moose :The stutter is due to stupidly unoptimised textures that take up an unexcusable 380oddMB of video ram. (even people with high end cards have complained as well, mind you) It was made by new track makers who obviously don't have a clue.

Shame you don't have a 1.02 license, as driving this car on proper tracks is a complete blast.
It runs beautifully and is quite an insane experience around Zanvoort

The package as it stands doesn't create a good impression at all, but on good tracks with a better setup it's really good.

This stutter thing is a joke and too many have their heads in the sand. When all all GFX details are at their lowest the judder still happens.

The simple fact is this. Almost ALL that report judder only report it for ONE LAP. Let me say that again to make it clear. Judder only happens on ONE LAP.

What this ACTUALLY points out is that the problem is caused by the fact that Textures and Models are loded ON DEMAND, not before.

If the problem occured every lap you would be right, as it stands you are not. Even those with high end cards report it even with GFX settings set low.

Yes the track could have been made better BUT there is a fault in the GFX engine. If you believe otherwise perhapse you can detail why it only happens for one lap and NOT after that.

Quote from Gabkicks :hehe the textures are pretty damn bad. and it takes up alot of vram. over 300mb, which explains why it stutters on my 256mb card unless i run the textures at minimum quality.

F1 had a bad name already and this track just makes it worse lol. Terrible track that is pointless in an F1 car.

Also. What a bodge. Night time BUT done in daylight look. If its night then where are the lights that light up the track. Just looks wrong.

As for NKP 1.0.3. Well the UI still locks up and crashes and what is with the 1st lap stutters. Pull out of pits, do the tight turn onto the track and then stutter hell and BANG into the wall. After 1 lap its fine so what is the problem.

I dont think 1.0.3 will be enough to get me to part with cash yet. As always with NKP its wait and see.

Torrent here http://d2.singtelrace.com/singtelrace.zip.torrent

And the reason he was working on it is that each sim (I assume these are the demo platforms with full BRD kit etc) costs SIngtel $300000

Only thing with the solution from Maggot, it should allow you to assign the same control for paddle/seq up. I don't like the G25 shifter in seq mode so use paddles for seq. I find I put downward force on it and then it gets stuck.

Quote from The Moose :I'm still not sure what "there will be a very interesting and 'tangible' 1.0.3 proof of life. Something that you can download." is supposed to mean though.

It's obviously not the actual patch as no patch testing has taken place at all. I very much doubt that patch testing has taken place secretly in house at BRD, so what we are supposed to expect in two weeks i have no idea

Yep the real proof is when he says that if retail 1.0.3 is not out in 6 months he will give up on NKP. This shows the "news" will not be the patch so I expect some vid or similar.

I still think BRD don't really want anything to do with NKP retail TBH. I don't think NKP made big sales so more hassle then gain for them. They just wanted the tech to sell on for custom work as more cash and less hassle etc. Much better fit this way for BRD.

Only time will tell and now the clock is ticking

Quote from deggis :But I'll say this: roughly within 2 weeks (something like that) there will be a very interesting and 'tangible' 1.0.3 proof of life. Something that you can download.

One thing I can say: if 1.0.3 is not here within 6 months, I think that I will give up this project as well It simply must be out there before that.

Quote from MAGGOT :I posted this as a suggestion a few months ago, and I still think all that needs to be done is the addition of a third shift control set, so you have two more fields to fill out in the controls menu:

Paddle Shift Up
Paddle Shift Down

Sequential Shift Up
Sequential Shift Down

First Gear
Second Gear
Third Gear
Fourth Gear
Fifth Gear
Sixth Gear
Reverse

This is the best solution TBH.

Quote from Eddster :+1 Until we can get a new F1 car modelled, this would be a welcomed addition especially to those of us who cannot stand the nurtured feel of TC.

But why? The 06 version is DESIGNED to have TC. The new versions would have gone through a REDESIGN because they can't have TC. Al you are trying to do is force a setup on a car not ready for it.

Just don't drive with TC. I race the FZ5 without TC while many use it. Does not bother me.

If we got a new BF1 of the era that did not allow TC it would still not be an issue because there would be no TC to enable.

The RSC mods are very sensitive about NKP for some reason. That said, even a mod started bitching recently when a vid got posted of a full BRD rig running NKP with the hill climb car on a circuit.

It was over 8 months ago that Kunos himself posted saying that progress on 1.3 was going well and that it should be out soon. Great joke I guess and all the work on NetBike stuff is VERY bad taste.

I get the feeling that BRD are hoping that NKP retail will just die and go away so they dont have to support. They have what they wanted which is a good sim and its dev in their pocket to exploit. They already got flat spots removed because the probs it caused with THEIR hardware.

I am glad I waited until I could race tintops which means I never got ripped off like others.

-1 from me. Would cause issues until we get full course yellow and safety car. Also the push back should NOT be instant. SHould have to way for marshall to reach the car and then waitr for SAFE time to push it back.

Quote from adambrouillard :Aligning torque caused my pneumatic trail is a very real effect and I am amazed how so many people don't understand it exists. As the tire approaches it's peak slip angle the force rises and then drops and will eventually reverse itself. This force is added to mechanical trail created by caster and kingpin angle scub radius. Some street cars have so much mechanical trail that will make it very hard to feel the pneumatic trail. Power steering also deadens the feel. That is what people are talking about when they say cars have great steering feel, that you can feel the aligning torque. Most racecars run minimal caster and don't have power steering so you can feel this effect.

Just google pneumatic trail if you need more info.

As with most things LFS related it comes down to exploit setups hiding most stuff then. So many setups are far from RL setups because the the huge flexibility in the setup options.

That said, my old 1970's mini gave great feeling about the state of the car and still didnt show much feel to understeer apart from just feeling the presure build as lock is wound in and then the level off of the forces as you get into understeer. No power steer to hide anything in that car

There is also the issue that many who claim the feel is wrong always cite ISI sims which have an overblown turn off the FF in understeer no matter the setup.

Many have call for limitiations on setup option in LFS for a long time. I hope they come soon and force the community into using realistic options instead of the faster exploits that would be a nightmare IRL.

Can't believe this is still going.

What happens if a "metal" band put out a song that is softer or different to the norm? Do they become soft rock or are they metal but have done soft rock tracks? And why does any of it matter?

If you are the sort of person that worries about what category is given to the music a band puts I would have to argue that you are just a sad wanabe and not actually a music fan. You only care about the image you think that category gives you.

The ONLY thing that matters is that to your ears it is MUSIC. Life if too short to worry about pointless label calling, it means NOTHING

If this goes on, i think i will write a book: "from y18 to s2 - my time of torture"

Everyone might be using Y18 because it means their lap times are logged on LFS world for them.

Quote from Jakg :Erm, did any of you READ the first post?

This on Bump 'n Jump with tight autoX layouts that NEED the handbrake - chances are that as he pulls the handbrake the wheels lock (putting stress on the clutch as the engine still has enertia), and probably punches the throttle as he releases the handbrake.

I think.

I never have clutch temp issues on track, but on CTRA Bump 'n Jump, especially in the RB4 (thanks to the 4WD) it's very easy to do. I would post a replay if i wasn't so tired but just have a go "dicking about" with the handbrake and you'll see what I mean.

Yes but bump and jump has nothing at all to do with it. The same rules apply to clutch heat no matter the server you are on....

Clutch abuse = Clutch heat.

You would get the same effects using normal brakes if you lock up the wheels while trying to put power through them. Why should it be ANY different on any server.

On bump and jump I find the bigger problem is suspension damage.

Like any race it's a matter of making the car setup suit the track/task. For bump and jump you need to lower the gearing, softer suspension etc.
