Thanks! Excellent work. The black background one seems to be a bit too contrasty with the lighting, but its still pretty close to what I wanted :P I'll probably end up using that one for our new website banner. Thanks again!

Quote from traxxion :That skin looks so nice, Im gonna try to give you what u need, might take some time though as I have to find out how to do that stuff... :P

Edit: YAY! I did it Thanks to Ramtech for the tips for the black rims! Preview now, 1024*768 in about an hour
Edit 2: Done the full size one. Hope you like it! Again my compliments for the great looking skin!

PS If you need a render with a black background for your website, just let me know!

Thanks, really nice work. I'm trying to see if I can borrow my uncle's copy of 3DS Max so I can do my own :P

Quote from Forbin :mrodgers, yes, but the point I was trying to make is, don't get into a situation where a little nudge could cause you to take someone else out.

Exactly, don't put yourself in that situation and it won't happen. Thats what I did in karting, never flipped or bent anything besides a tierod in 7 years. Would have been 8 years but a cry baby of a 40 year old decided to rejoin the track right infront of me instead of waiting for the pack to go by. Hit my right rear, bent my axle and cracked my disc brake. Worst part is his dad is the local kart dealer, and his brother is the race director, so he gets off. Had to bend my axle back into "RACEABLE" condition with a 2X4 for the next race, disc was still useable, but you could really feel the crack under heavy braking.

Luckly for LFS, theres not a lot of politics involved. I'll shut up now

Quote from ramtech :there, with black rims and turned wheel
message me if you want the .tif file, where u can easily remove the white background (alpha channel saved)

Would you be able to do something similar with my skin? but for the XFG? I want to use it as a background, so something along the lines of 1024x768, if possible.

Damn, those extra 50MHz make LFS run that much smoother

Quote from Ebiggs :Could you guys give me some tips on what I should do to up my fps? Starting in the rear on Blackwood with 12 cars (XR GT if it matters)I run like 10fps at 1280x768. I'd like to be at about 30fps in that situation at least. I know my computer is crap...AMD 1.2 CPU, 512MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card. I just bought the processor this month (it did have a 700Mhz. )

Are you just running default settings? If so, chances of you getting that many fps with that computer are slim to none. My second PC only gets 35ish there.

Quote from TravisS :No no, LFS is all about the "power". I know you know that a 2 GHz Athlon 64 will absolutely destroy a 3 GHz Celeron in LFS.

Yea, I was talking more GPU than CPU there

Quote from Gunn :The solution is to stop using wireless.

Correction: Stop using wireless and windows at the same time.

All my wireless problems have been because of windows. Every 60 seconds, XP likes to search for new networks, causing a major ping spike. I read up on the steampowered.com forums about how to fix it. You have to let the Wireless Zero Config. service get the initial wireless connection, then stop it. I made a few little .bat files, one to start the service, one to stop it. Pretty much problem free now, minus the random times I turn off my pc and all my wifi settings get erased.

I skimmed through all this, so if anything I say is a repeat, sorry, I'm lazy.

First off, LFS is all about them mhz. Video card memory has nothing to do with it, unless you are going from 32mb to about 128mb. Anything above 128mb on AGP is almost useless, I think the AGP bus can't use any more than 132ish mb. As for the PCI bus, It's something like 50mb. PCI-E is the future, as it's twice as fast as AGP, so it can use all of the 256mb and some. If you are only playing LFS, make sure you get a card with a high GPU speed, as that will make more of a difference than memory. The speed of the AGP slot is also important, when I had my old gateway, it only had a 2x slot. Came with a TNT2 32mb stock, but I took my Ti4200 128mb and set it up just for kicks... The 4200 actually did worse then the TNT2.

To who ever started this thread, the only way I can see you getting double the frames is if the FX5600 was on the PCI bus, and the FX5500 was on AGP. And since it's a dell, that is very well possible.

And last but not least, for my FX5700LE 256mb, my 9800pro blew up and that was the best/cheapest/best performance replacement I could find. Got it for $40 canadian .
****I would never buy this card, or any other FX series card new.****

Quote from SamH :THANK YOU!! Success! It's a pain in the bum to have to do, but it's 100% effective! I've now banished the road blocker til he gets a new IP, which is longer than I've ever been able to do it before. I owe you a pint!

Sam

Yea it's still a bit of a pain, as it's really hard to admin and race seriously. Idealy we should just have a one button ban for admins with a pop up asking for the amount of days, and if nothing is entered, it's automatically 12 hours.

If we need any more spots, I might be able to get us a 23 slot. Also, if you want to pre-test the server, just check out FusionRacing Server on Demo. It's hosted out of the UK so pings should be pretty good for all.

Quote from SamH :Another example of a ban that just won't stick. "This command needs 2 parameters".. I've put 'em in, and it's still asking.

I found that if you put the /ban infront of the name in regular text color, then match the color of the amount of time to the color of the last character in the users name, it works fine.

example: /ban defekt05 12

Hopefully next patch will take care of this and maybe have a new system for banning, maybe an extra set of buttons when an admin is logged in.

Quote from keiran :I remember hearing the stats of a Nitro 1/10th touring car R/C car and it could acclerate from 0-60 in 1second. That would be hard enough to follow with your eyes yet along while bumping into someone.

Yea, I had a hard enough time driving mine in a straight line let alone bumping another down the back straight.

Quote from tristancliffe :Now, about the bicycle. It's already been mentioned that the karts, bikes, R/C cars etc all generate low pressure regions behind them, and therefore slipstreams. It's a nature of objects travelling through fluids.

But a bicycle is powered by the legs. Legs get tired - engines don't. Any energy saved by slipstreaming will save the legs of that slipstreamer to give him a later advantage. The same occurs in NASCAR. NOT being the lead driver, I believe, can save you quite a lot of fuel being sucked along.

Now, if a bicycle tried to bumpdraft there would be a crash. But also the gain in speed isn't that much - it's more about saving energy, which is the square of speed. A kart isn't trying to save energy (except perhaps in an endurance race, like all cars), but trying to maximise it's speed. But the little gains of speed a draft are likely to have been mostly lost in the inelastic collision when two karts touch. R/C cars - I can imagine the body squashes and aborbs the energy rather than channel it purely into the velocity of the lead car.

*breathes out*

Yes, we understand the saved energy, which is why most NASCAR drivers use it. They have to run 200 laps, I run 15/20. I also understand the slipstream of a kart is very little, but when you add maritime winds to the equation, the slipstream effect only gets amplified. And even if the karts are geared differently, the Kart 2 will accerlate even faster from the draft of Kart 1. So if Kart 2 transfers that extra energy into Kart 1, then drafts him, and regains even more energy back, would you still not call that a bump draft?

Quote from NotAnIllusion :
No doubt bumpdrafting is bad & dangerous in LFS with the aero model, control methods, lag and whatnots. I did have a great race earlier though on Bl1/XFG:
The leader ([Fluid] Parise) was getting away with Dizman in 2nd and me in 3rd. Upon exiting the chicane after T1 I was right behind P2 and asked (it's bound to a key now ) if I can BD. Affirmative answer meant we both significantly gained on the leader, and in fact, Parise was so busy finding the "lol" key to comment on the BD question that he pulled the next corner wide and we both overtook him

See, no probs!

Yea, we were bump drafting too. That was some of the best racing that I ever did on demo. You guys were bump drafting trying to catch Parise, while I was driving the wheels of my XFG trying to catch you guys. Which was nearly impossible, until you started battling for position. Then it was an all out battle.
