Quote from marsaz :that's exactly what i was saying. If someone gets through to the inside one should turn in late and get a better exit speed so there is a possibility to fight the lost position back

you guys make me laugh with your rules. There is not 1 good choice.

It all depends of the type of the corner, the length of the straight which will follow or the direction of the next corner, the eventual banking, the kerbs and runoff area, the opponent and his driving habits or even driving style, etc.

You can't just say : when someone pass you, you must do that. It's just plain stupid. We are not robots nor should we be expected to do exactly the same things/errors/tactics lap after lap, race after race.

1 thing is sure : one should not push someone out of the track, because he is faster or has a better line.

Quote from sinbad :But the debate is, and the point many of us have been making, is that if the car (black and yellow one in that case) had tried to hang on around the outside with marginal overlap (but enough to spin the other guy out), then that resulting crash would be entirely his fault. Just as it would be if instead of defending the place, the black and yellow car was trying to overtake around the outside. Sometimes someone has to lift on corner exit to avoid the contact, and invariably that responsibility lies with the one that does not have the racing line.

The racing line is a concept totally irrelevant in this case. Nobody is in the racing line when 2 drivers enter a corner side by side. And the one who get the apex doesn't get a magic ticket which give him access to the whole width of the track. He must make a sufficient overlap and complete the pass, that's all. Nobody has to lift to let him pass.

The fact that a line is faster or slower, or that a strategy to let the overtaker pass can be a better choice is also irrelevant. The overtaker can't just say he has the right to go wherever he wants only because he took the apex.

By the way, Senna just proved how bad his manner are at the CD3 server. He was saying just before the race to someone else that man should hold the inside at turn 1, that it was the safest way. I was just behind him at the start, and what do I see at turn 1 ? Senna bumping other people to make room on the inside...Yeah right.

Quote from Alan Dove :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwkQZKgqT1A

Here's an example of a 'perfect overtake'.

It is a completely out braking manoeuvre, and no contact is made. Aggressive and fair.

Now the driver who I overtook did the sensible thing on not try to hang on round the outside because my now inherited racing line dictated i was going to run out on the exit as I accelerated away.

We come to a problem when the guy being overtaken decides they want to go toe to toe on the exit, even though the overtaker is ahead.

Now he could have tried to hold on there (a he did a little), there was probably grip available, but the corner was not his and he would be putting his car in my way, not my car in his way. That is how racing should be otherwise there wouldn't be any overtaking.

There is a lot of difference between squeezing, and ramming.

nobody "owns" a corner. The other guy could have perfectly decided to stay side by side (if he had been fast enough), that wouldn't have give you the right to close the door if didn't had a sufficient overlap.

By the way, this is a bad example, the other guy was slower. A faster driver could have kept his position and beaten you in the next right hand corner.

He lost corner and lost first pozition!

Bourdais said after his first relay that the car was oversteering a lot. Probably a setup issue.

the limit is no use if fast drivers stay in the CD3 servers instead of going to the CD4.

I tried CD4 last night, I only saw 2 guys, one of them being a CD admin. An hour later I was back at CD3 where all the racing was done. :thumbsdow

Quote from mrodgers :Well, when I posted that, I admit my mind was on more normal road cars such as the GTi/GT class and the RB4/FXO/GTT (oops, sorry Hankstar, the XRT ) class. When I think about cars and think of modern cars, I think of the current Celica, Acura RS (or whatever the Integra evolved into) and stuff like that compared with a raw bones 85 VW GTi or 80's RX7 stuff.

Being from over here in the US, when I think cars, I don't think of Ferarri, Porsche, Lotus, as I think I've only ever seen maybe 2 of each my entire life.... Ferarri is a real sight as they are extremely rare to see. I've seen 1 Lamborghini (Diablo) ever. Porsche is a bit more common. In fact, I stopped at the store this morning on the way to work and saw this guy, though it is not modern....

Living in switzerland, Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus or Lamborghini are a common sight to me. I even see Michael Schumacher in his white Fiorano as the new house he is building is just 2 kilometers from where I work.

Quote from mrodgers :I'm with the rest of you guys. Modern cars suck. Give me mid-80's cars any day. Though I'd say we are driving early 90's cars in LFS. Early 90's were not to bad. The start of the computerization age, but none of this TC, anti-lock, etc crap. It won't be long before we are completely disconnected from the car and driving with fly-by-wire. That will suck. Our recently aquired forktrucks at work are all now fly-by-wire. Complete pieces of crap. Steering wheel never returns to the same spot, throttle response is non-existant, and so many safety features to get the thing moving that it takes 10 minutes just to pick something up and move it 5 feet. Have to start it with the parking brake on, or it won't move. Have to have your foot on the brake before putting in gear, or it will never move. Stuff like that will be in the cars in the future.

-1 to modern cars, fictionally simulated or real.
+1 to more vintage cars.

Though I'd also like vintage looking&handling cars too, there are still good modern cars which emphasize on driver input/output. Lotus Elise/Exige and TVRs come to my mind right now.

I'd love to see a good looking rear mid engined LFS car and a front engined one which would look as good as a modern TVR Tuscan.

I'd say no for the LX4 and yes for the LX6 but with +20-30HP for both cars

By the way 51.79 is fast to me, i am in the 53's and cannot get a clear track to get faster.

I was also in the 53's 2 days ago, unable to do a single clean lap with all the wreckers out there. But last time, my times improved as soon as I had a clear track. I think you have the same room for improvement. I'm not really a fast driver.

My problem is who do i give a license to. On CD3 there are some fast mini GTR drivers but they have little or no race craft, then there are drivers like me that have some race craft but are gang banged at every corner but still cant drive the stinking little things for toffee.

CD3 is great fun but how the hell do you guys get them round so fast.

I had a great fun last night at CD3. The races were quite clean (probably because admins were online).

I managed to win 3 races in a row although I am quite slow (I did a pb of 51.79 with the UFR), but driving consistently did the trick, so it's not always about being the fastest in a lap.

There is a strange thing when I test if I have a license on your website. I write "Tomi" at the prompt but it show me the license of tomisu. Does it means that I could enter CD2 because tomisu has a license or is the server more strict than the little app on your website ?

I like the fact that LFS has fantasy cars.

The only important point is to make them convincing. I'd like more cars, from different types but I don't care if they are real or not. Most cars in LFS looks a bit outdated though, it would be great to see both newer design and fantasy vintage looking/handling cars.

I don't really understand you all want your XRT to look like crap.

The AE86 was an error as far as design is concerned. OK it was a cheap RWD car from the 80's and thus became the #1 drift toy in japan but in LFS you are not limited by financial considerations and LFS offers nicer RWD cars. Why do you want to spoil their look ?

Quote from auch_enne :Hmm I think the problem might be that on the big grids if an incident happens, and well they do which is normal for racing, the people behind it think "hey a crash this offers opportunity to get by 5 people at once" instead of think "hey a crash maybe I should lift, maybe even brake, take a bit more care, wait for a gap so I can drive through without creating a big pileup"...

[...]

Well just my 2 cents of what I've seen on the big grid servers, yellow flags don't mean, "Floor it, you can now pass em all in one swoop." ....

greetz and enjoy the game

Well, that's what I usually do, and it worked great on CTRA New&Bronze servers.

But I was also there last night at the CD servers and lifting was not a solution because there was always someone behind you waiting for you to lift or brake and smash you.

Last night it was : YOU BRAKE AT T1, YOU DIE ! YOU LIFT ? YOU DIE ! YOU ARE ON THE OUTSIDE ? GUESS WHAT ? ----> YOU DIIIIIIIEEEE NEMESIS !!!! :hbomb:

The only solution was to start in the 3 front rows and miraculously escape the T1 mayhem. Oh yeah there was ONE race without an incident at T1. But a car landed on my roof in T2. :ambulance

Quote from bbman :As long as you are side-by-side, you have NOT overtaken, therefore you're not entitled to use the full width on corner exit!

TRUE

To ayrton senna 87 :bump: , drivers should just spectate when someone is on the inside and he probably thinks that Gilles Villeneuve and René Arnoux are the worst driver in history. OMG they give each other rooom ! :uglyhamme

I think this has a lot to do with people who aren't used to the new patch. It won't happen as much in a few weeks once everybody will be comfortable with it. I don't think there is a need for a fix.

This thread is pretty lame, immature and vengeance oriented. Are you 5 years old KamkorPL ?

Catching an unwanted slide in a race, and with a race setup, is much harder than doing a self induced drift. We all know that.

I was planning to do the Manthey skin (and other VLN/adac-24h skins, Alzen, M-Sport, Land...).

I'll probably give it a try, but after the main Manthey skin is complete.

I would suggest something else than RedBull for the sponsor because the colors wouldn't really match.

Do you want it only for the FZ5/R or a whole skinpack ?

Go Manthey ! only 3 hours to go !

GT is a good car collecting game, but as far as driving is concerned, it's crap.

LFS is a great simulator, but as far as collecting car is concerned, it's crap.

They don't share the same markets, there is no point wanting them to compete. And the result would be pretty obvious, the one who spent the highest money in marketing would win. The quality of the product has a very limited impact on the sales when it comes to attract the mass. Only the niche markets are affected by such considerations.
