Quote from KuHS :How InSim would send 2 or more MCI packets? Thanks for explaining.

It would send 1 MCI packet containing a compcar with the first 8 players, and then a second MCI packet with a compcar containing 1 player. You use "NumC" to determine how many are in each.

Or have I misunderstood your question?

Quote from Bob Smith :Not to mention you could use this to circumvent all your server bans.

Which could be fixed by having a record of all previous usernames. The problem then becomes one of username exhaustion. Just look at xbox live.

At the end of the day, it was clear when you signed up and it's unlikely that the developers are going to change their stance on this. The most likely resolution you'll get, if any, will be the swapping of the licence name and the racer name on the forum. And I'd go as far as saying that's unlikely in itself

It was introduced in order to reduce the weight of coinage in the system.

On that basis I've always assumed that it's due to a vast majority of things costing 20p-40p in the UK at that time

Quote from bunder9999 :a web browser is more prevalent than a office suite.

I used to use this argument when I sent my CV to non-technical companies, last time I was unemployed. It's rather sad the number of recruitment staff that will throw a MASSIVE strop if you say "my CV is over there" or "my CV is attached (as a html file)".

Makes me sad

Since you've not been very clear exactly what you want, you might want to take a look at http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... =28815&highlight=drag

If that's not what you're after can you be more specific than "traifc light system or somthign simular" [sic]? What do you want this system to be capable of doing?

Provide us with more details on "the error message".

I'm slightly confused as last time I checked sending an email isn't required to buy a LFS license...

2 lines here - 1 ADSL2+ LLU O2 (a rebranded Be There) connection and 1 VirginMedia cable line. The O2 line I use for work purposes and the VM line is used as backup, and is the primary connection for my housemates.

I cannot speak highly enough of the O2 line. On the other hand, the VM line is terrible. The VM network is consistently unstable and very obtrusively shaped. Were it not for the cost of adding an additional BT phone line I don't believe that we'd be keeping the VM connection.

Or you can enable network debugging in LFS and get it via a debug message after the player has connected. Not sure how accurate that would be though...

The LFS Programmers forum isn't suitable for general assistance because of the number of people that post there. You're more likely to get help in the Technical Assistance subforum. As such I've moved your post.

The client connect failed normally means that either you have a home router or firewall in front of your LFS server, preventing a player's connection from fully completing.

You might want to read http://en.lfsmanual.net/wiki/H ... rwarding_.2F_Home_Routers which gives an example and has a link to portforward.com, which often has step by step guides available for most home routers.

CloneZilla might be what you're after. It's an open clone of Norton/Symantec Ghost.

It's also somewhat friendlier to use than dd directly.

Quote from jwardy :im here asking for personal opinions if one of our lfs'ers actually lives there

I suspect that asking people who live in Hastings about the hotels, or other accomodation, won't get you many answers. I live in Bristol and I've lived in Bath, and honestly I couldn't tell you which place to stay at, because I've never needed to stay at one!

You're more likely to get answers from people who don't actually live near there. Have you seen the following sites?

* http://www.firstthursday.org.uk/placestostay.html

Quote from Crashgate3 :You might know RealJames if you were into the alliance politics - he was one of my drinking buddies throughout uni.

The name rings a bell, but I couldn't have told you that it was because of PA

Quote from Crashgate3 :I used to go (I went to i's 19, 20 and 21) and we'd bring PCs, set them up and invariably end up spending the weekend getting pissed-up in the campsite instead of gaming

Aye, that's basically it

Perhaps we should lobby MP and get an LFS section at i38?

Man, it's been a long time since I went to an i-event Went many many moons ago when planetarion had speed rounds - of course that didn't end well

A few others I know have gone this year, but I don't believe they're high competition for CSS - kinda seems pointless when you're entering that tbh..

I'm confused about this thread, but I've kept it out of pure interest.

Your OP starts like you're offering advice or support, and then degrades into asking opinions...? You also seem to ask others to post instructions for their home router - which already available under portforward.com for a lot of home routers (although admittedly some routers do list additional ports which modern routers shouldn't need to open).

I'm confused as to what the goal of the thread was, I guess.

To answer your question surely it's rather obvious why people pay someone else?
1. So that they don't have to maintain the server that it's hosted on, and don't spend resources (such as bandwidth, etc.)
2. Because they haven't been able to set one up at home

InSim isn't enabled by default - the only way that it starts is if you start LFS with /insim portnumber argument, or if the user manually starts InSim (/insim portnumber in chat).

Quote from Bob Smith :What do we classify medium or large vehicles as being?

A tank, bridging equipment, the batmobile or anything of equivilient size. Such as an articulate.

I don't believe that it applies to chelsea tractors or any other domestic vehicles, if I recall correctly.

Ok lets look at this logically.

The config you're pasting is for the dedi.
The screenshot shows the InSim client error and the full version of LFS.

Could you give us more information because it's all a bit unclear the moment.

* Are you running the dedi on your PC?
* Are you also running the full version of LFS on your PC?
* Are you using any InSim modifications on your full version of LFS?
* What connection details have you given the InSim client (presumably default of localhost 29999)?

Assuming yes to all these you need to:
1. Ensure that the full version of LFS and the dedi use different InSim port numbers
2. Ensure that you're telling the InSim programs to connect to the right place with the corresponding port numbers

Quote from bbman :Air has never been good in transporting data

Things like RONJA's help out over non-domestic distance, and it's not unknown for a number of ISPs to resort to free space optics over a good old fashioned cable sometimes, just because of the terrain. They're something we're considering at the moment for a company distributed between 3 offices, by 1/2 a mile or so just because leased lines are riduculously expensive in their area.

However I fear that I've become rather off-topic again

At the end of the day, best tool for the job. And sometimes that tool just happens to be a hammer if you're a server admin and you need to get rid of laggers.

2 years ago I advocated users doing what they want, and I'll stand by that. Equally tho, if you're lagging like crazy on a server I run, the odds are you won't last long. Freedoms work in both ways

My logitech set do this, it's resolvable by adding shielding to the sub and some of the satelitte speakers. Just means you need to get handy with the screwdriver.

But to be honest, if you've only just bought the speakers I'd return them. Its what I would've done if I had the sense when I got mine several years ago.

Quote from Becky Rose :LFS already has various checks in place, although the landscape always favours the hackers (there is always something they can find to cheat).

Although the major problem seems to be that the dedi doesn't perform any physics calculations to verify the client, and to my knowledge this hasn't changed recently - without this it cannot be fully authoritive over the players and their movements, only ever able to make educated guesses
