As much as I want to defeat mistatea in the championship, I think he should just receive a warning.

I voted for SO even though I'm not participating. I want to see some replays of massive carnage!

Just kidding, I just voted for SO because it's not a difficult track and I believe everyone will be more professional this time.

Quote from luftrofl :I'm sorry, what cars are you talking about?

In my experience, the least amount of rotation I've ever seen is 900 degrees in the Nissan Z32 NA.

The new 2008 s2000 CR (club racer) is 864 degrees (compared to the normal model which is 936). But yeah this is really rare. My car is ~1076. A ferrari f430 f1 is >1080.
Flipped car policy and safety car procedure

This post is a request to change the flipped car policy. I appreciate the hard work on the rally stage by the medical cars, but I don't think they should be used in the future.

In a 10 lap race, if you flip your car your race should be over. Finishing in last 2-3 laps down in the same as finishing last due to DNF. Due to LFS's bad crash physics, attempting to ram a flipped car can send that car (or the medical car) flying towards cars lapping the circuit. Also, it takes up too much time and too many laps (in such a short race) to attempt to get the car upright. Chances are the car will sustain even more damage from ramming making it undrivable anyway.

I'm not sure how all LFS leagues handle situations like this, but I just watched one of the recent replays from the IGTC series and I think they did a pretty good job handling this situation.

1) On lap 15, a car flipped in the last turn at blackwood. The flipped car did not chat when flipped.
2) The yellow flag was brought out and a message saying "Safety Car Deployed" was displayed
3) The pace car waited in a safe area by T1 for the leaders.
4) As the leaders approached, the pace car accelerated towards a safe speed
5) Although the pace car pulled out near the leaders some cars towards the back of the pack got caught up behind it and were allowed to pass.
6) The pace car maintained ~62mph and avoided using brakes at all costs. Pace car pushed in the clutch to maintain speed and coast down hills instead of braking. Braking was only used when necessary (such as T1).
7) When the pace car had lapped ~1/2 the circuit the flipped car was requested to spectate (the only chat message during this entire scenario).
8) Once the flipped car spectated, the pace car did one more lap around the circuit.
9) A red message was displayed reminding everyone that the safety car was in the next lap - and a reminder to hold a 2 car gap to avoid collisions which the drivers obeyed.
10) The pace car accelerated away towards the pits and the race leader set pace speed until the green flag was displayed. The leader held maintained the pace car speed of ~60mph.

Good thing the penalty affects round 3 since I won't be able to make that race!

I don't know what happened in the first rally race as I've wiped it from my memory (I was driving really bad.... sorry!). But I did watch the race 2 replay several times.

In defense of juuretis, his driving on the one green lap he was racing in was fairly clean and he made several good passes.

First, he was hit by TG44. Later, the LFS medical car was driving backwards on the course and hit him head on. He didn't complain about either of those incidents (I would have!). The only thing he did wrong in the race was speed through a caution area (clipping a medical car) and pass under yellow (which other people were doing as well). He asked if his race was over when he flipped the car on its side and race control said "yes". I think people saw him flipped over the entire race and assumed he was causing chaos (based on his pre-race shenanigans ) but really I don't think he did anything too bad (in that race) compared to the other incidents on the track.

TG44, you were spun on the first green lap but your car received little to no damage at that point. It was only damaged when you turned around in front of a juuretis and he hit you (although this was the one incident that was not his fault). If you turned your car around and rejoined the field you would have still had a chance to finish in the top 3. I was spun twice under green and still finished in 4th even though I lost several spots because of those incidents.

When hammond (J@tko?) flew by like 10 of us on the safety lap, I was oddly reminded of this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Zyr6VDaaWJE

I think you have a typo. According to the calendar Round 5 is the autox. Unless we're eliminating the autox and still running aston north...

Calendar:
24/2/08 R4: Aston North - FXO/RB4/XRT - 7 laps
2/3/08 R5: http://www.lfsforum.net/attachment.p...0&d=1200214 218 - MRT - 15 laps

Quote from TAYLOR-MANIA :Well if the Green Flag was displayed then I think it's more or less deemed to be okay. Technically, it's not, unless they accelerate at the same time the leader does.
I had two cars hoon past me too, the green flag was up but they was on the power earlier

Hi taylor, that would be kaluiks and I. For the record, we weren't actually "on the power earlier". In fact, both him and I bunched up behind you and were on the brakes when the green was displayed. Our cars (LX6 and RAC) simply have better acceleration than the RB4 which is why we easily passed you before the start finish line. Safety car rule #8 and rolling start rule #8 seem to conflict each other - maybe this should be clarified for future seasons.

I believe I'll be dropping out of the next 2 races due to a wedding and long business trip. Please let a reserve fill my spot for those races.

I passed two cars before the start/finish line as soon as "green flag" was displayed on the screen. One was during the first start, and the second was on the restart. I'm not sure if I should be penalized or what. I thought anything goes once "green flag" is displayed - and due to the better power to weight ratio of the RAC I accelerated much faster than the RB4's on restarts.

@mutt, sorry for my comments during the race. I was just upset because of the damage to my car that's all. I think we all need to be a bit more cautious during the SC laps - I also gave finnwest a few bumps (although I didn't ram him hard!). I tried to stay at a consistent pace but I could not do anything about people slowing in front of me.

p.s. honking horn during race should be disallowed.. it's not really appropriate IMHO

ram your current wheel is fine. Just buy S2 and save up for a better wheel later. You don't need an expensive wheel to run good times. In fact, if you use all 900 degrees or whatever the DFP has, it will be much harder to recover from spins as I said in the other thread.
Technique

RAM, just remember that while a wheel that can turn over 720 degrees is more realistic, it's not necessarily easier to drive. For instance, it will be much harder to catch a spin... drive a rallyx track, etc.
Technique

Toki, won't a wheel that turns 240 degrees only be marginally better than a wheel that turns 180? It's still not going to solve his problem. He needs a wheel that can match the degrees of rotation of the in-game car's wheel.
Technique

RAM, I'm pretty sure this is normal. The road cars in LFS turn 720 degrees. Since your wheel only turns 180 degrees, for only a few degrees that you turn your wheel, the in-game wheel turns much farther. Even with wheel turn compensation at 1 (which attempts to match your wheel to the in game wheel near the center neutral position), it will not help much because of the limited degrees of your wheel.

I think the only thing you can do is buy a wheel that can be set to match the LFS cars degrees of rotation (720 degrees, 400, 450, 520, 270 I believe).

oops.... *hides in corner* I think you're right I normally never touch those car filters.. but I guess I left them enabled by accident.. oops. It wasn't quite obvious thats what the problem was. Maybe it should reset to cars y 0 and cars n 0 every time you start the game for noobs like myself

hmmm.. I don't agree. I don't really see what gain the safety car would bring to the start of the race. If we're rolling, it's not going to make t1 any easier. Actually, we'd just be carrying more speed and a bump or two might turn into a rollover

In fact I think it would be worse for a couple of reasons.

1) We're not professionals and we seem to have a hard time keeping up with the pace car (atleast in the couple of practices races I participated in) I don't want to be an extra 20 car lengths behind the leader because the field was spread out.

2) I can see there being some incidents just in the safety lap no matter how slow we drive.. before the race even starts

I thought rolling starts were to prevent damage to transmissions?

Anyway, thats just my opinion...

Final update... I went through the entire cfg.txt file and overwrote each line with the default until it worked. It turned out to be the cars y and cars n setting (which unfortunately were at the bottom of the file!!!). I have no idea what those settings are for, how they changed or why, but that was what was preventing me from seeing all the hosts.

Here's an update on my problem.

I tried running my old installation of lfs again. Once again I could only get a few servers. I copied the cfg.txt from the new installation into the old installation directory. It now works fine. I don't understand what's wrong. The last thing I did in LFS was mess around with the custom view but that's about it.

I looked at all of the things that look like network configuration settings and there's some differences but nothing obvious (perhaps cars y and cars n ??? not sure what that's for). If the devs want me to attach both files I will do that.

hi all. I'm having a similar problem. I'm only seeing limited servers. For example, I only see 15 demo hosts (2 no replies).

I just ran LFS_S2_ALPHA_Y.exe, extracted the files to a separate directory and I see all the 157 demo hosts. Just to make sure, I refreshed the first instance and still only see 15 hosts. Note: I have the same options selected below the server list (all public, private, etc. are set to "Yes"). Can someone explain would could cause this? I don't want to have to unlock it and copy all my stuff over if I dont have to.

I've had this problem since Monday.
