Yeah, I should mention at no point did I do that with any other cars around me. The road was empty, lol. Wouldn't be stupid around other people.
My first ever, real-life LFS experience.

I just thought I'd share a neat little experience with the LFS community, as it relates directly to this game. Kind of long, and you don't have to read it, but I thought it was neat.

About a week ago, as it was getting towards the end of winter break, I was sitting around the house, bored, and ready to go back to college. My dad asked me if there was anything I wanted to do before I went back, and I came up with the idea to test drive the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. So off we went to the dealership, and we're looking at the car outside, and some sales lady comes up to us. We talk for a bit, and we make as if I am very interested in purchasing the vehicle, and long story short, it comes time for a test drive. Unfortunately all they had on the lot at the time for me to drive was basically a base-model 2.0T with no options other than an automatic transmission. I figured it's better than nothing, and the lady (who at this point I've discovered is completely clueless about the car, and just about everything in general) insists that while this car might be the base model, it "still pretty fast, and I don't think it really needs any more power." She says she's never driven the 3.8. So in the end I take it for the drive, and it wasn't all that impressive. It didn't seem all that much faster than my current car (a 1998 Subaru Outback) which is not a good thing for Hyundais RWD sports-car.

Bla, bla, bla, two days later I get a call from her saying that they just got a 3.8L Coupe, with the track package, and in manual. Basically the complete opposite end of the scale. It's impossible to price the car out any more. Hands free, nav, leather, keyless, moonroof, Brembo brakes, sport suspension, etc...

So we head back over (on my 21st birthday) to take it out for a spin. I should mention at this point that, a year ago, I would never have known how to drive stick. All the cars my family has ATM are automatic. Luckily some guys in the car club in school decided to change that, so I've had a little practice here and there - enough that I know how to drive stick, I'm just not very good at it. We get in the car and I proceed to slowly let the clutch out to see where the friction point is, and not being used to a NEW clutch in a SPORT car, I stall it, (LOL). Get it going again, and from that point I was fine. She's sitting there, impressed because I tell her I'm a noob at a manual, and basically I THRASH the car down the road. ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ANIMAL. This car is a helluva lot faster. Anyway I'm doing everything, hitting the rev limiter (for fun) and basically just beating the crap out of the car. A normal sales rep would have told me to slow down, both for the car's sake, and for safety, but she's so clueless about everything that she's just sitting there, obviously terrified, but not saying a word. I notice when I put my foot down, all sorts of rough lurching and the T/C light coming on.

Bla, bla, bla, long story short, we get back, and I tell her I'd really like to show my dad the car. Here's the fun part. She gave me the keys, and let me take the car out ON MY OWN. Now, I've heard stories where people go to that Genesis Coupe Autocross Event and even there they sometimes don't let people turn the T/C off, much less on a dealer's test drive of their only top-spec model in stock. So my dad gets in the car, and I immediately turn the traction control off. I should also mention, that until that day, I'd never driven what people would consider a proper "fast" car. I've driven all sorts of cars and trucks and busses, but I've never driven what is supposed to be a true sports car. I've also NEVER driven a RWD car, and yet here I am in my first SPORTY, RWD, MANUAL car. Get on the highway, get to the u-turn, pull off and wait for the light. I tell my dad when it turns green, I'm going to floor it as I turn back onto the highway. Next thing I know, I'm 30 degrees sideways, screeching the back tires, drifting the car back onto the two-lane highway, facing the concrete divider in the middle, and basically having the most fun I've ever had in my life. In hindsight, probably not the smartest thing I've ever done. I've drifted my Subaru in the snow, but that's not quite the same thing, lol, but I was 21 and I figured **** IT, I'm going balls to the walls. Anyway the long and short of it is I did that a few times, and beat the car to hell some more before coming back in.

Now, the way this relates to LFS, is simply that I've never driven a car in that fashion other than in this game. I've always maintained LFS (as everyone does) to be a very good representation of real life. I have to say, though, I expected the first time I ever drove a car like that, that holding a drift in real life would be ENTIRELY different. In some ways it was (like for example, in being the most exciting thing I've done in many, many years) but in terms of actually controlling the car, I didn't freak out, I just kind of held it, and I must say I did a really good job at it. I've always had a knack for anything with wheels, anyone I know will tell you that, but I must credit LFS, because I basically went into "racing mode" when that happened and I think the main reason I was perfectly calm was simply from having done that many times on my computer, lol. It may sound ridiculous, but in the end, I couldn't help smile and think, "wow, this really IS just like the game! It's EASY!"

Lol, end of pointless, non-interesting, stupid rant about my idiotic real-life risk-taking.

I think it's the smoothness that's a fig factor. Until the tracks are made rough, it won't feel right no matter what else they fix.

I immediately thought of TrackMania as well...

...and IMO, there are more important things to work on, but at the same time... well to borrow a line: "How hard can it be!?"

Quote from Bboy-MassUK :GTX295 is overkill for this game, but I plan on going TrippleHead2GO with 3 screens for Xmas, so I needed the power to keep the all important 60fps

Well, my 6800GT runs LFS on two 19" screens at 2560x1024 res with modified high-res graphics without issue, so I doubt you'd need anything near that powerful for a third screen.

Lol, some girl senior year of high school had a 90's Thunderbird V8...

...this is the same girl that asked me to ride with her and had me explain to her what the lurches were (turned out it was that phenomena called changing gears). I mean we're talking no sense of anything, completely hopeless, and scary as hell driver. First time it snowed, she high-centered the car on a little mound of grass after sliding off the road. I stopped to help her, tried to get the car off but it was useless. The neighbor ended up getting out a farm tractor and we had to work the car off the mound strategically, lol. Even on FLAT grass with 1" of snow, if you didn't have your foot on the break, if the car was in gear, it would just start spinning the back wheels. Tractor had to pull me all the way across the lawn because it had NO grip. Not the car for that girl at ALL, lol.

Read about it the other day... lag isn't as bad as you would expect, apparently:

Alright I got it working. My stupid problem was I had "using namespace std;" AFTER my function declaration, lol. Thanks for the help eveyrone!

No more questions, but is it possible to have it read numbers from an input file directly as absolute values? Like instead of 'input >> A >> B >> C' something like 'abs(input) >> A >> B >> C' That's not how you'd do it obviously, but is this possible?

So I should instead just have something in the order of:

output << IsoscOrScale(A, B, C);

which would refer to the function:

string IsoscOrScale (int A, int B, int C) {
if (A == B || B == C || A == C)
return "Isosceles ";
else
return "Scalene ";
}

Thing is, how do I employ a "string" function. It doesn't want to work when I use string - only int.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I'm just starting out with all this. for this application, I'll just make the output declaration global and we'll see if that works.
Anyone Know Basic C++?

Ok, long story short, I'm trying to do some basic C++ and I'm stuck. I'm trying to output stuff to a txt file, but the way they want us to do it we need to split everything into functions. So I have the commant to open the output stream:

ofstream output("triangle.dat");

Then further down I have a command for the program to go to a void function, and then after the main function I have the void function itself:

void IsoscOrScale (int A, int B, int C) {
if (A == B || B == C || A == C)
output << "Isosceles ";
else
output << "Scalene ";

The problem I'm having is that since this is outside of the main function, it doesn't recognize the command to output those strings. I can re-define the output stream in this void function, and then it works, but I think re-defining it starts fresh, so it erases all the other stuff in the outputted .txt file and I end up with JUST that string.

If that doesn't make sense I can elaborate more, but basically how do I get it to continue to write to the output file when it goes down to a separate function? Thanks for the help from anyone who might know.

Yeah w/e. X-Plane is leaps and bounds ahead of FSX in every department except looks.

Sound familiar?

Quote from Takumi_lfs :Why would you use a 6800GT when you got the chance to use 8600GT's in SLI?

Because the 6800GT is actually faster than the 8600GTs in some regards, or so I've heard. And since I've also heard that SLi doesn't always boost a graphics card(s) performance in every scenario, I was wondering whether it was worth the extra power-consumption, driver installation annoyances, etc if I was only going to gain 5 FPS...

This book is required for the Intro to C++ that I'm taking this semester.

Quote from niels1 :2x8600GT would defitnly beat the 6800GT. No problem. Back in the days when i had 2x6600GT in sli it was as fast as your 6800GT. Not ineverything off course but was rather close. However getting those in SLI means you need a new mobo aswell. Unless you have already a SLI mobo offcourse.

Yea I've got an SLi mobo. Maybe I'll do it then.

So, I currently have a dated 6800GT in my computer. A friend of mine was given two 8600GT cards which he doesn't need and so offered to me.

Would two 8600GT cards be better than my single 6800GT? I've heard arguments that the 6800GT is still faster than an 8600GT. Is this true? Does it hold true for an SLi configuration?

Quote from S14 DRIFT :

It's not like you're making a profit out of it or anything.

Yeah - as far as I can tell, I had to first BUY the song to use it - so they made money off of it. And then I've had lots of people ask me what song it is so THEY can buy it, so they've made even more money. It's completely absurd what they're doing.

Can't. Video goes with the music. It's on Facebook... but I guess I'll have to stop using YouTube in the future... sad.

Sounds more like your computer (more specifically, your graphics card) is overheating after a few minutes of hard work. Check the fans in your system and make sure they are working. It might be your processor too. You might want to check out your temperatures.

EDIT: Whoopse, didn't realize there was a whole page of answers. Sorry to beat a dead horse, lol.

Well, from what I understand (and I don't know too much about Apple's hardware (spec wise) their products are overpriced (kind of in the same way Sony makes nice stuff that's really overpriced.)

Yea, lol. There's a solution. Honestly, I don't see all this encryption stuff lasting very long. They're going to learn soon enough that people are always going to get around it - or fight it. I mean, look at the now DRM-Free iTunes.
