Not yet, but I'm working on it! Yeah, there you spotted one of my inspirations ...
FXO/FXR Light Concept

Dear fellows,

finally, I finished my Light Concept for the FXO/FXR. Inspired by different car manufacturers (mostly Audi, BMW and VW) I created this to achieve a design that's modern but also emphasizes the lines and the look of the FXO/FXR, independent enough to not being a real life replica.

Attached to this post are two ZIP-files:

#1: containing fx_interior1.dds (if you are interested in the lightset only)

#2: containing fx_interior1.dds AND fx_interior2.dds (if you like my matching interior textures I made a while ago, as pictured below)

Installation: Extract the file(s) into the "LFS\data\dds" folder, but remember to backup your old files before. Enjoy!

Quote from Homeless_Drunk :Lots of car enthusiasts on this forum...and a lot of them don't have basic knowledge...makes me scratch my head.

Well, "enthusiast" doesn't automatically mean "expert".

I for example am an enthusiast for cars and in this way interested in how they look, sound and drive, but unfortunately I'm not a mechanic or mechatronic.

And that's why I was asking - thanks for all the answers so far.
What happens if you're driving down a steep road and don't change up?

I just had a discussion with a friend of mine and we couldn't come to a compromise.

The question is: What happens if you drive down a steep road in your everyday manual car - second gear engaged for example-, and don't shift up, even if revs are going up to the redline or even towards the limiter? Does the latter actually work if you don't push the accelerator and can you damage engine or transmission? Will the engine overheat?

In contrast, how does an automatic transmission handle this situation, and how does it handle a downhill drive in general? Since we all know, we should drive down a slope in the lowest gear possible to preserve the brakes from overheating - does an AT do that, and is there a kind of "gyro" checking the car's angle, possibly forcing the transmission to change gears in a different way (=later)?

To all the experts: Please discuss!

Quote from jrd.racer :That looks nice, espiecially when race prepped like this one. We need a Scirocco GTR.

I wouldn't say no to that! But first things first ...

Another one: Not exactly what you can call "cool", but definitely bold. Is there anything comparable from the US folks? I bet not.

Warning: Contains nudity! Hopefully, virtually posting women's breasts on the forum won't get me into trouble. But since the car was visible for younger visitors as well and no single parent could be seen "saving" his or her kid from this sight, I guess I'm on the safe side. If not, please delete!

Hi folks,

at the moment I'm a freetime DJ myself, meaning that it's been a while since I've been playing for a crowd in a club. So, during the last months I didn't play at all or only for myself or friends who came for a visit.

One of them asked me if I've ever tried to do a podcast, which means playing live and streaming the music to the internet.

So the question is: How do you do this? Do I need any software or account? Are there any problems? I'd really like to try this and share it with you lot. Any help would be much appreciated.

Before you ask: My preferred kind of music is breakbeat and I'm using good old vinyl instead of mp3s or CDs ... take a first listen here at the soundcloud.

I'd be really honored to play for you!

Cheers and thanks! Smile

Quote from baSh0r :Yeah i was, you could try contacting your local newspaper or anybody who is running a website and try to get an accreditation from them.

Is it this easy, actually? Even for a small one-car amateur team with a sluggish website?

Quote from Mysho :I am impressed that they allowed this, I mean, there must be kids watching etc. Nice livery.

Actually I am impressed by all photos of yours. If you have anything else to add, feel free to post it here.

Hehe, last year the "lady" wore even less, and if that wouldn't be enough, the car left some parts as well.

I will be pleased to upload some more photos. Maybe from the classics race? A lot of the cars there could be exhibits in a museum as well - driven to the limit here and there which is really impressive.

Quote from baSh0r :Great pictures! I am impressed Good job

Thanks mate. The fence isn't the photographer's best friend though, but you have to make the best of it if you're lacking an accreditation. Maybe I should start taking pictures for a team for a start.

You were also there, I guess?

Since I attended the race as a guest, here are some impressions of it for you folks.

1: The Artega GT catching a last glimpse of daylight, being prepared for its first 24h race on the Ring. The car seemed to be in road = stock condition and didn't even have a rear wing.

2: A look into one of the still empty pits on Wednesday evening, which in contrary became absolutely crowded during the weekend with up to seven cars each in it!

3: The Stuck Lamborghini Gallardo accelerating out of the formerly called "Dunlop" bend. Ferdinand "Striezel" Stuck shared the car with his two sons, officially finishing his racing career which also started here on the Nordschleife in the 1970s. But he's arguably to come back in some form of car racing at least.

4: One of the Lexus LF-A's, attending the 24h race for the third time. Its V10-engine is still unmistakingly screaming "Formula 1", unfortunatly not as loud and wicked as during the years before.

5: 1-series BMW called "Tittenschlitten", crudely translatable as "t*t ride". You catch why?

6: 1-million-and-more-worthy one-off Ferrari P4/5, built for US-billionaire James Glickenhaus and driven by former F1 stars Mika Salo and Nicola Larini. It arrived finish in quite good condition, compared to a large number of cars not entirely staying "stock" or not arriving at all. By the way the loudest car in the race. And maybe the wi(l)dest.

7: View from the tribune down to Dunlop bend during race night. Very nice place to have a barbeque or just spectate.

8: Aston Martin V12 Zagato, one of two. Impressive and raw sound included! Both finished despite having gotten some small bruises during the race.

9: The one and only Corvette of the race. Quite unspectacular in the sound department, I had wished for a bit more grunt.

10: One of the Mercedes SLS bunch braking strongly for corner number one, an extremely tight right-left combination, which means slowing the car down from at least 250 to 50 km/h. Nearly every car took another line through these bends after catching the braking point more or less exactly. The SLS-V8 in my opinion had the most "American" sound - nice!

Altogether it was a great weekend at the ring again - maybe apart from the weather (10°C and 100% humidity in June? Brrrrrrr!). It was the third 24h race as a visitor for me, and as in the years before, there is more and more to "learn": where you can find what, what you HAVE to see etc. Everybody you ask, being it team members, security or even drivers, gives you a friendly answer, if you need time and place to take a photo into one of the pits, mechanics hold back or excuse for walking through the picture, whereas in Formula 1 you are sent away or not allowed to stay there at all. This is what makes this race so special. And to see cars so widely varying race makes it even more perfect. You can HEAR which car is passing next - and if you couldn't hear it, it was probably not a Lambo or a Merc SLS or an R8 or a Porsche GT3 or a Ferrari or a Lexus LF-A or an Aston Martin. It was maybe just a Diesel VW Golf.

Quick financial side note: A weekend ticket costs you not more than EUR 59, which is a bit of a snip compared to what you effectively get: 4 days of racing (including a 3 hours classic race and the Porsche Carrera World Cup this year), entry round the entire Nordschleife and Grand Prix circuit, entry to paddock, grid (and pits if you're lucky), going down to the side rail during formation lap to cheer the passing field of nearly 200 cars, taking a used slick tire as a souvenir if you like - and that's for sure not all. So, to everybody who wasn't there before: GO THERE NEXT YEAR!

AS5Y Stage 1 (8 km hillclimbing track)
smove
S3 licensed
Hi folks,

I just worked out the great idea Flame CZE had here, I just varied the course a bit. The goal was to combine most of Aston's tricky turns with the new intersections we were given thanks to the open track configurations, which resulted in a stage or hillclimbing track.

Despite featuring several chicanes the track is fluent to drive, but technically challenging as well with a lot of narrowing turns and bad visibility in parts.

But enough with the talk - give it a try and post some times! I find it quite addicting.

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :
Honestly though, I would pay much more than £12 for it. Obviously it wouldn't have to be laser scanned or even match the S2 track quality standards...

Definitely! 12 bucks is about half of what you pay for 1 (ONE!) real lap there. So I wouldn't be picky about the price in LFS. With LFS's physics I wouldn't begin to whine until it reaches ... uhm ... let's say 50 bucks - which is still cheap, at least compared to real life!

Quote from GreyBull :
But now, why don't you devs try to to take the challenge, build a virtual track of a decent quality that could be easily compared to the Nordschleife? Why couldn't you succeed on that point, while you managed to produce very fun tracks on which drivers are still having a lot of fun 6-8 years after their creation?

Because personally I can't assure that I'd maintain the aspirations learning a track this long and demanding if there is no possibility to drive it for real one day. Now, just in case everybody wants to tell me that a racing simulation can never resemble real life - you are right about that. But it definitely helps knowing where the tricky bits are before depreciating your car, kindly helped by the guardrail.

Quote from Flame CZE :I just got an idea of creating single stages on the combined configs, for example this one (there might be better ones for sure though).

The stages idea is brilliant! - "The Need For Speed" (1995) anyone?

Anyway, I found another Aston variant. Could be a bit tricky regarding pit entry/exit, though.

I shot you doing one (THE one?) of your qualifying laps at the VLN 2010 (last race of the season).

Good luck for 2011! - Maybe I can manage a visit of your garage at the 24h hours race!
