Hi,

I just found a nice site containing large numbers of different 360 Degree panorama skies (and also some horizons), partly pretty spectacular, and wondered if anyone would/could manage to set them up for LFS and post some screenshots (I only hope this is possible without violation of any copyright regulation).

Maybe someone would like to give it a try?

Aaaaah, well, I nearly forgot the link: www.continuum3d.com
On the top panel there are also different categories to browse. See examples below.

Have you seen this?

The only question is if this one is modeled after the LFS car or the other way around ...

Quote from zeugnimod :Well, you do need a licence for the higher servers which are using TBO, LRF, GTR and the faster single-seaters.

You can join Race 1 (XFG/XRG) and Single Seater 1 (FBM) without a licence.

So I might try this - but how to gain the licenses you talk about? Are they depending on lap times, or laps raced, or races driven, or what?

Quote from zeugnimod :This is where you are wrong IMO.

There are drivers of all abilities at the CTRA entry servers. I can't speak of CD but I guess they have different skill levels there, too.

You actually can finish almost always in the top 5 on the CTRA tier 1 servers if you drive clean and don't have any crashes even when you are 3 or 4 seconds slower than the WR.

Could be that I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I needed a kind of license for joining a CTRA race recently ...

Ooops ... after finding my last post maybe was a bit off-topic, here comes what I originally wanted to say when entering this thread.

I see myself as an average LFS player, nothing more, nothing less. Maybe not the fastest in the world (missing records only several seconds ), nor the slowest (of which I'm sometimes not entirely sure). So I firstly guessed there are many, many, many others like me having not the time to play LFS some hours a day, but maybe several times a week - of which I sadly couldn't find more than 10 the last months regarding the servers LFS offers when choosing multiplayer: There are the what I call pros at CTRA and CD, there are the oval junkies, the cruisers, cops and robbers, and the sad rest seems to be drifters or just-starters jumping instantly into the BF1. Means: Nobody for me I'd like to compete with, though I'm (at least I think so) rather a person of the original target group of LFS than at least five of the groups altogether I just mentioned. Hm.

So my question is: Where is the average LFS player, like me??? Where are people that have a work and/or family that are not able to play 24/7 but actually want some nice, fair, average, maybe advanced racing sometimes a week? Can anybody hear me? This is a bit disillusioning I think.

Quote from seinfeld :also there is so much talent on this site, there are awesome skinners, and the high res tracks, and details, those people should be asked to help desing new tracks, and I dont even need to ask them, I know they would love to do it.

the game could improve so so much with the help of some experienced fans. it would speed up development by 300%.
Victor keeps saying we dont want more ppl, because then it wont be built the way we want it built, thats just an excuse really, because in the end he will have the final say, he will say what goes and what stays

I dont know why extra talent hasnt been recruited, the two things I could think of is they are just lazy, or its not a priority for them, and I dont mean this in a bad way, its that they are not consumed by this game, they want to keep this as a hobby not a full time job so to speak, I understand that, but as i said , ask for some volunteers that are experienced, in skinnning, maps, tracks, they can help you guys, the development can continue, you guys can keep the hours down on the development and just have the final say, compiling part to do.

Well, this is a point I really agree to. Like you said, it's the decision of the devs if some third's work will finally be integrated or not.
And why do so many people instantly hope to get rich with this? What a community of capitalists we are! Successful and officially added contributions could be rewarded with vouchers and their name standing in the credits, what I think would be enough for most of them - even more than skinners and modders and programmers currently get for their effort: nothing, nada, null.

I fail to understand why the devs don't even try to hook people that do a great job AND are respectful for the devs' work and loyal enough to be critisized and pushed in the direction the devs want it.
Or do they?

I guess nobody of the potential contributers wants to destroy LFS. Instead they'd like to make it better, bring it forward, maybe for a lower priority bring in themselves with their work.
Surely, not everybody has the qualification to contribute on the high level of LFS (in most game areas), but maybe a kind of a competition could be the solution: Give the community example tasks and the person solving the problem the fastest, the best, or even both, is the winner with the chance of a future cooperation with the LFS team! Okay, I have to admit this costs time and effort what leads to finding somebody to do - oh my god, this is a vicious circle! So I now shut up.

I'm absolutely loving this! This HAS to be implemented in LFS - it may be an option or not for those who don't like it, but I do.

Especially when driving to quickly across a hill my stomach floats some centimetres up from where it's intended to be - crazy!!! And btw, just like in real life!

Please stick on!

Quote from J.B. :Half a meter! I just tried that with my 22" and it feels like someone strapped the screen to my forehead. I feel much more comfortable at about 80-90 cm which probably explains why I think most LCDs have too high resolutions and why I hate programs that don't let me increase the font size.

Well, for normal office work I can easily push my monitor some centimetres away from me, but for LFSing it can't be near enough. The best would probably be to sit inside the screen. The big advantage of LCDs is the (nearly) complete lack of flickering compared to CRTs you even notice at 85 Hz, especially when put directly next to each other.

Hey folks,

just to inform you: I decided to buy a Samsung 226 CW - and until now I don't regret it. Right half a metre in front of me 22'' is the right size.

The 226 BW I had a problem with (which I discussed here) got returned to the manufacturer and so I decided for the CW version. This one works absolutely brilliant.

Quote from deggis :Important thing: what panel does it have? S (as Samsumg) is best, A (AU Electronics) and C (CMO) are generally certified "crap". Samsung is basicly selling different model with the same name... yes it 100% sucks.

Read this: http://www.behardware.com/arti ... s-series-the-verdict.html

I just read through the text and, especially after looking the pictures here (the lower ones) and raising the gamma curve in these pictures equally so that you can actually see the halos, I'm quite sure that my monitor is infected with defect. Firstly, the glowing still seems brighter, secondly because it is very different in position on my screen. Of course my cell phone cam had a way longer exposure time and I'll have to take my digicam for another, more exact result.

I'm not really sure about what to do now. At first I may find out if I have an A or S panel. Or I could bring it back and try to change to another one. Or maybe simply to go for a completely different monitor. Or jumping out of a window. Though - not for a presumed faulty monitor!

Quote from Bean0 :I've never noticed that with mine.
I do get a little of the blue from the LED bleeding into the lower right corner, but it's barely noticeable.

I also don't notice it on bright pictures, but whenever there's a relatively large area of black or shadows on the screen. The best example to get it to see in everyday life without putting too much effort in is when booting the PC so that the DOS prompt and Windows starting logo appears for some seconds. There it's hugely noticable ...
SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226 B - Problems with black
smove
S3 licensed
Hi there,

you guess right, according to the other topic I posted around here two days ago, I decided to finally get a monitor to test. It became a ... 22'' SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226 B.

After installing, calibrating (as good as it gets without colorimeter or something similar) and checking it works just fine for LFS (in fact, I'm really impressed!), but there seems to be one major problem:

It can't produce a homogeneous black across the screen, not even nearly. Instead there is a very noticable green(-ish) glow directly in the middle of the screen that I tried to catch using my cell phone camera - view the pictures attached. If you gather from these that this could be due to reflections: It isn't, I took the photos at night and at least one of them with all lighting switched off in my room.

So my question is: Did anybody here using this screen notice something similar? Or is it an exception only my monitor has? Maybe it's "just" a manufacturing fault - well, which just shouldn't be.

Best regards and again: Thanks in advance.

Quote from Tweaker : You need to search around online and read lots of reviews and customer comments.

So this is exactly what I did the last weeks, and I think there are just too many different screens, reviews and - not at least - very different opinions. Nevertheless many thanks for your very quick replies!

Now I feel I slightly tend towards the 24'' corner ... As for my hardware, I use a GeForce 7900 GT with 256 MB on an AMD X64 Dual (or something like that) which virtually runs on 4.2 GHz if I remember correctly. The system's now approximately 15 months old ... not the newest one, but also not crappy I think.

Another question: Until now I set my AA and AF to 8x. Could it eventually be that it's enough to go with 4x or even less on an LCD? Or doesn't it matter at all? This could save some resources maybe ... But if it looks worse than on the CRT which means AA and AF are more important on an LCD than CRT I'll quickly forget that ...

Quote from J.B. : And don't bother looking at any screens at the store. The way they are hooked up makes it impossible to judge a screen there. Best order from an online shop that won't complain if you send it back in case you don't like it.

I also thought about that .. or actually buying it at a shop to test it. So I could bring it back the next day if it doen't fit my needs. They'll HAVE to take it back since a screen is not a worn pair of socks. Yes, I think this is the best solution at all!
22 vs 24 inch - Which to choose?

Hi folks,

I finally decided to change from my ancient 19'' Highscreen CRT to a Widescreen TFT.

Now there are two questions:
1. The size
2. The panel (and its importance according to my use)

I've taken several screens into account (ascending in price):

1. 22'' SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226 B or 226 CW
2. 22'' LG ELECTRONICS Flatron L 226 WA-WN
3. 24'' SAMSUNG SyncMaster 245 B
4. 22'' EIZO FlexScan S 2201 W
5. 24'' BENQ FP 241 W
6. 24'' EIZO FlexScan S 2431

I'd primarily use the screen for LFSing, further for graphical work and of course internet and office work, which shouldn't be an issue here. So my choice is dependent of the display's speed, but I'd also be glad about at least semi-realistic colour reproduction. In this case I think the Eizo screens should be best. I use a very professional one at work and from this point of view it's stunning, though I couldn't test its speed playing a racing simulation (we use Macs at work and, on the other hand, we work at work ).
So concerning the colours I think I'm right with choosing the Benq or the bigger Eizo. But is their speed also good enough?

My next concern could be the native resolution. I'm concerned that the 1900ish one of the bigger monitors could be to heavy for my PC. Maybe not primarily for LFS, but surely for any other of the newer games ... which I seriously play not too often btw. So my next question is: How much is the frame rate dependent of the resolution? How big is the jump from 1280x1024 to 1920x1200 pixels and is it THAT big?

I recently took a look at no. 3 from my list, the bigger Samsung one, in real life, playing NFS 376 Underpower Overrated S.E. part 11 (or something like this) and I must say, it quite didn't look bad, but the viewing angle was not tooo large, and there was this odd behaviour of the screen that I still have in mind about TFTs, which I blame to v-sync problems: The upper part of the screen was sometimes one or two frames ahead of the lower one, and the picture at all was somehow not "smove" enough for my feeling. So is this due to v-sync problems or bad graphics drivers? I think yes, because especially for displaying in a shop the dealers often don't seem to set up well-running systems. I even remember having seen several screens attached to one computer, which of course made every one of them look blurry and flooded with artefacts.

Furthermore it's rumoured that the 22'' league is Formula Ford compared to the Formula 1 24'' screens, considering the built-in panels. Is that true?

So ... long post, short question: What would you recommend me to do/not do/buy/not buy??? Maybe some of you even use one ore more of the monitors above and can talk about their experience with it/them.

I thank you VERY MUCH in advance!

Cheers

Now only one small detail is missing: the characteristic triangular shape of the taillights when viewed from the side. I'm sure this would work with the skin and the car model itself because the rear lights have similar (big) dimensions like the original Camaro lights.

What do you think on this?
UF Skin Request: FHM Mini

Hi folks,

anybody seen a FHM skin for the UF which could be originally seen on a Mini? Unfortunately the search function brought me exactly 0 resluts - no, wait - results of course.

See the attachment for details. I'm sorry I couldn't find any more pictures of the livery.

If there doesn't exist a skin like that one yet: Here is the request for someone who wants to make it. Or would it be too ... uhm ... "pornographic" ... for LFS???

Cheers
