Quote from shashdev :What camera are you using? That's an incredible picture.

Well, without the camera it wouldn't be easier to take a picture.

So: It's a 4 year old Canon EOS 450D with a Sigma 17-70 mm F2.8-4.5 DC macro lens and a bit of Lightroom.

Had a little bit of spare time recently, so I worked on an adaption of what I think has been one of the coolest racing liveries in recent years. It originated on an Audi R8 LMS of the Phoenix Team during the 24 hours race at the Nürburgring in 2009.

Fits the FXR the most in my opinion with its all-wheel drive, this, unfortunately having no V10 though.

Skin already uploaded to LFSW. More coming eventually.

Cool, uncool or extremely uncool?

(And, what about the car? )

Quote from Ni-san :It's pretty rare that my HTC Hero takes decent photos.

What is THAT thing? Looks spectacular.

Anyway, this here is a longtime-exposure-Lightroom-experimental thingy from the Ring.

I only had a quick visit to the race this year, but again it was a real, real blast! It had everything from quick cars, slow cars, beautiful cars, strange cars and loud cars - on and beneath the track. Well, not just cars! The weather was fine as well (very uncommon!), as were the girls on the grid.

But not everything stood in order till the end of the race: There was a lot of carnage and everybody who has seen the last minutes of the race knows what I'm talking about.

And it's never ever to get boring, considering the extreme range of the field. A night at the ring (not the GP track actually) is mind-blowing, even being there as a spectator only. And here I refer not exclusively to the great atmosphere around the track with its barbeques, fireworks and parties, but rather to the sheer craziness of the drivers maintaining their speed even from dusk till dawn, getting not more than a glimpse of tarmac ahead of them. I'd just call them lunatic and every single one of them must have balls of steel.

To cut a long story short, like the year before I'd like to share some of the impressions with you in pictures.

Nice effort - but it seems you've used some quite familiar textures as a base for your work without doing much more than adding your logo to it, especially regarding the interior of the FXO/FXR.

You should at least give credit to the people providing these bases ...

Even a boring, diesel-powered autobahn cruiser can bring a lot of fun - simply put it to the most beautiful stretch of road money can "rent".

That's my ride for quite a while now, built in 2004 and having more than 230.000 km under its wheels ...

Nice textures, especially the lights!

This is probably the perfect place for a high-res Caterham R500 skin I made a while ago, based on the work of tom0507. Attached.

Quote from Seb66 :Thanks to scipy:

Tune to win - Carroll Smith
Drive to win - Carroll Smith

A lot of good stuff in those two I know they helped me. I'm sure he has others that would be as equally useful.

I just gobbled the pre-reads at amazon.com and am now not far away from ordering, especially the first one. Seems to be written understandably and to have quite a sense of humour ... nice!

Quote from ACCAkut :

its a good read, and gives a lot of info on how to be faster on track (lines etc) Has many diagrams and illustrations, and some pretty pics of Nissan/Nismo related race cars.
The foreword of Pedro is not worth mentioning tho.

I just came across this at amazon, looks promising ... but he didn't publish it in German, did he?

As the title says: Which books would you recommend for (becoming) setup-gurus, perfect drivers, race commentators, brand experts or - to put it simply - car-enthusiasts?

I for myself am currently reading "Porsche 917 - Archiv 1968-1975" by Walther Näher which painstakingly accurate examines the history of every single one of the famous 917s ever built. In places it's strangely dry (for example when a driver totalled a car in a practice crash and, by the way, died) but I blame this on the author being German.

What are your favourites?
