Well, just to throw something here and maybe to inspire some people to share some of their sketches, here are some of mine. Don't take these to seriously because most of them were really quickly made and concentrate on the shape and curves of the car body's design rather than presenting them "shiny shiny".

As always, c+c welcome as well as your ideas, please!
Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010 - questions
smove
S3 licensed
Hello there,

my girlfriend - who's slowly getting as motor obsessed as me - and myself plan to visit the Festival of Speed this year! I'm soooooo looking forward to this, and it seems to be a thing any motor enthusiast should experience at least once in his life.
Coming from the continent, we'll combine this event with a nice 6-day-stay in London before, so I have some questions concerning the journey from London to Goodwood to all the people living in South England and everybody who's done something like that in the past:

Which way of travelling do you recommend getting us from London to Goodwood? I must say it's more important for us to save money than to be there in a short time, so maybe by bus would be the answer. What's a good point to start the trip and where should it end ideally?

Furthermore, can anyone give tips on where to stay during the nights? Is it hard to find B&B in this area and in this period of time, during the festival?

It would be great if anyone who has done a similar trip (and I'm sure there are some fellows here who did :razz could post his experiences, tips, do's and dont's etc.

I'm looking forward to your answers! Thanks in advance and cheers

You're refering to this one, don't you? Oh yes, I adore it! It's so "science-fiction"! It sooooo impressed me as a child, and it still does: Northrop XB-70 Valkyrie. Breathtaking. I believe to remember that just two of them were actually built. One of these got destroyed in a collision with another plane during a test flight, the other one got on display in a museum somewhere in the states, I guess. Don't know if it still is there ...

Quote from lizardfolk :Throw in the FZ5 as well!!! That car is so under used

Anyways it's a very interesting idea. I'm defintely willing to participate in any way I can (and hopefully a league as this is a very interesting league idea)

Thanks for the support!

I considered using the FZ50 as well, but I'm afraid a car resembling a Porsche - even if it's fully restricted - isn't really appropriate to compete with cars similar to a Fiesta, a Lupo, an Astra or even a Yaris, don't you think?

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :Of course, you need someone who know his deal, enough to push the cars near their limits.

That screams for the Stig's LFS-playing cousin! Maybe we find somebody like that in here - who wants? I'll do some further tests with the AI in the meantime ...

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :About the idea in itself : sounds nice, but I'm affraid there'll be too much difference between the cars to get them closely matched enough for each track. For example I belive that the TBOs would get in front at the longer tracks(we1 for example), while the XFG would get an advantage in the narrow and short ones(so3, fe1)

Thanks for the quick answer - shouldn't it be possible to get a homologous field of cars by letting the AI's test in very long runs and tweeking the setups until the lap time difference is marginal?

Well, then online it could probably only work if you can trust the participants, if I understood correctly? That wouldn't be the perfect case, without trying to tread on someone's toes here.
Club 102 Server concept

S3 licensed
Dear LFS fellows,

I recently had the idea of creating a new - at least for me - kind of server, or even league possibly: The "Club 102".

What the hell is the Club 102?

The Club 102 is a fictitional racing league consisting of five different cars. The initial goals were to enlarge the range of cars going at a similar speed by balancing them out and to stimulate narrow fights by using the basic cars of LFS. I know, this idea might not be the newest of course, but I just couldn't find something similar NOT using GTR cars.

My goal was to bring this to the slower - yet not less thrilling! - car classes of LFS, powering down even the XFG a bit to create a field of cars that is nearly 100 % balanced, mainly by its power-to-weight ratio, but leaving the different (dis-)advantages like kerb weight and drivetrain concepts (FWD, RWD, 4WD). Specifically, every car should gain a power-to-weight ratio of roughly 102 HP/tonne, hence the class should be called Club 102.

Why just 102 and not at least a million HP???

The target group should be mainly the semi-experienced and mid-field LFS driver, but I wouldn't exclude the pro's from driving there, of course!

One simple rule: If you don't like it, leave it! Further, I based the figure on cars that could be easily found on the real road and that could be the daily-drive of a larger amount of people here more likely than a GTR or Formula car - and I'd like to give these people the opportunity to race a car similar to their own in their favourite race-sim, head to head and in thrilling battles!

What cars should it contain?

The XFG as a light and nimble FWD car,
the XRG as a mid-sized, weight reduced and basic RWD car,
the XRT as a mid-sized, turbo-powered car (slightly heavier than the XRG),
the FXO as a mid-sized, turbo-powered FWD car and
the RB4 as a relatively heavy, front-biased 4WD car.

What about setup options?

I'd appreciate using slightly changed standard setups (i.e. "RACE_S", "Hard Track" or similar) with fixed engine restriction and mass addition/mass position as a base, just leaving final drive and tyre pressure as changeable options. The rest should not be changed from the base setup and you should not be allowed to drive on the server if you do so anyhow. Maybe there could be a script that checks the setups and downloads them automatically, if necessary? Alternatively there could be a link given where a setup package can be downloaded before connecting to the server.

Nice idea, but what now?

Since I never hosted a server, let alone a league, my main question is: Is there anybody who likes the idea that much that he'd like to

1) create the InSim/Airio/etc. commands and implement the necessary technical stuff;
2) test the base car setups with me and improve balancing the cars;
3) host the server; and last, but not least,
4) drive there?

I start by uploading my first efforts resulting in five setups and a replay of some AI's driving them.

As always, comments and critics welcome!

Quote from C L A S H :skins are great but u have to fixs one thing on rith side if i noticed good the st sine is near front wheals and on other side is near rear wheals u have to put them in same places and reupload that i can use fixed one

Have a look at Google images then showing the car from different sides and you'll notice the ST writings on the sides are exactly positioned like that.

Quote from Vykos69 :100? 200? 1000? Dunno, but I guess, i did my little bit of work on that.

Yes, you did, and I'm definitely one of these 100/200/1000! - I still remember seeing you on NBC Giga some years ago when (visual) car damage was introduced. When was that? 2006? I guess so, because this is when I bought my license, after seeing this awesome review. You must be quite famous, especially in Germany!

I for myself convinced exactly one person, though some friends of mine also like playing LFS, but didn't buy it yet.

Quote from zeugnimod :It should be:

"Nur Demo-Inhalt wird verfügbar sein."

Connected with the hiphen or what it's called. Two nouns following each other doesn't really make sense in german.

He is right. Although it's nearly too short considering it's a German sentence.

What about: "Damit wird nur noch der Inhalt der Demo-Version verfügbar sein."

Exactly 63 characters, btw.

Quote from Scawen :I don't know the reason. Are you using a wide screen mode? What is the effect of trying to use FlipCams... does anything happen at all? Is this the same for anyone who tries to use FlipCams with Z18?

Thanks for taking on this problem. - No, I don't use a wide screen mode, apart from a wide screen resolution (1280 x 720) which I haven't even changed between Z18 and the older (test) patches.

I still use FlipCams, but when I try to cycle through the views nothing happens, solely the text string appears - like it's supposed to do (see attachement). I didn't delete or modify any files or settings btw..

I'm using FlipCams and I'm afraid this practical little add-on doesn't work anymore with Z18 - is this a FlipCams or LFS related problem? Maybe because of the changes concerning multi monitor support? With Z17 it worked if I remember correctly ...

Just a quick one for all the street racers out there to make a Ford Fiesta ST out of the XFG. I know, nothing really special - but clean and simple, and I think both cars are quite similar in the way they look.

The skin comes in the four stock colours white, black, red and blue. Already uploaded to LFSworld.

Cheers!

I must admit, I'm a bit jealous of the devs because they already CAN drive the Scirocco with the approaching new tyre model - but that must be the gratification for their great efforts, I guess.

Great news indeed, can't await the patch!

TV Magnifying Glasses
smove
S3 licensed
I've found something that could be interesting for people whose monitor or TV screen is still not large enough: TV magnifying glasses!

I found a model called MaxTV, and according to the specifications the glasses work between a distance of 10 feet and infinity and can be adjusted to +/-3 dioptres each side separately. I think these glasses could enhance visual immersion in LFS and any other sim/game/whatever in a strong way, but there are doubts about its practically worrying me on the other hand:
What if you wear stronger glasses than +/-3 dioptres normally? Does the image get sharp within a shorter distance than 10 feet? - I hope these two values interfere with each other in a way that they give a perfectly sharp image if you are 3 feet near and you have -4 dioptres (like me).

So my question to you: Has anybody here tried this or a similar thing and is it any good? Here's the link.

Cheers

Well, it caught me to post some sligthly car related stuff here. I started this not too far ago, so here are some impressions from the 24h race at the Nürburgring some weeks ago, apart from the last one which was a nice found deep in the German woods.

Quote from Mp3 Astra :Yes, but if we had one set of official corners, it would make life easier.

There you have it: We need names for the corners! What about a "Scavier-S", or corners named after WR holders?

Btw., good ideas with the maps to see here, but I would completely pass corner numbers. Leave it at the splits so the maps are clear, no more is needed.
