You're really limited on a laptop, you can't upgrade the video card cause it's part of the motherboard. You can only upgrade 2 things: the CPU and the RAM. You have 3GB of RAM already, if you make it 4GB you may not notice a difference. The only upgrade worth doing is the CPU. I don't know for sure what the motherboard can and can't support, but I'm willing to bet that it can support an Intel Core 2 Duo T7800 CPU. You can find one on ebay for $250 or so. That's the only thing you can really do. But again, I'm only like 75% sure that it will work, Dells are really retarded laptops, it's hard to know what exactly they support and what they don't support.

I think he's referring to the new car selection screen, the pics seem to be worse than they were before (in patch Z), they look kinda pixelated and distorted. Even I think they look bad, I dunno why Scawen decided to change them, the old ones were fine.

That system is complete garbage, even for browsing the internet or IM. Don't touch such crappy systems. Celeron...who the hell would buy that? Celeron is garbage.

Exactly, my 4870 isn't outdated yet, it'll last me at least 1 more year, maybe more. So there's no reason to upgrade yet.

Because 5870 is twice as expensive as 4870, and we're not all rich here.

Well Windows XP only uses DirectX 9, but other than that I don't see why it would be the same as a crappy 9600gt. I suppose you could give Windows 7 a try (and let the rest of us know if it changes anything!).

You're running the latest drivers for it? And at the highest 3D quality? Do the games at least LOOK better than they did on the 9600gt? Is there less lag? I'm asking cause you didn't specify what exactly the problem is, just that there's not much improvement. Are you referring to frame rates in particular or how smooth the games run?

Scawen could you please release an updated version of the CMX viewer containing the new XR models?

Why does the XR_interior1.dds file have a picture of a license plate in it? The XR cars use the license plate picture from the licanseplates.dds file.

The 4890 should be better in most games. However, not all games are written in the same way, you have to understand that some games are written to favour Nvidia cards, and other games are written to favour ATI cards (due to business practices mostly, like ATI or Nvidia paying companies to make their games run better on their cards). Not all games are like this, but there are some out there that will run better on the Nvidia card than the ATI card, and you can't do anything about it. The 4890 is better in most, so I would conclude it's the better card.

If price is no object I would get the 5870 though, it's much much better than the 4890.

Yea I know you can't put the reverse light in the middle, but you can leave a black gap between the two red lights just to give the impression that there's something there. Check out my old ones, they're not very good but I think they look more like the real AE86 lights!

Cause you might have overclocked the SATA bus speed as well, and hard drives probably can't handle an overclocked bus.

You forgot Romania and Bulgaria...they're in the EU as well!

Takumi, those lights look really nice, but they look nothing like AE86 taillights! Space them out properly if you wanna call them AE86 lights.

Quote from AjRose :You've got to be kidding me. I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It's just common sense.

Umm, what?

Anyway, Blue is the correct one, try it yourself by winding a string tightly around a basketball...

The KVM has no idea what OS you're using, and it doesn't care. It just does the physical routing from one input to the output, there's no software involved. As long as you provide native inputs and outputs it will work (ie straight usb and vga, no usb-ps2 converters or dvi-vga converters). I used one in the past to switch between a Linux box and a Windows box, so I speak from experience.

3-4 years ago LFS was getting more updates, more content, and more attention. Now it's been the same for at least the past 2-3 years, except we got all of 1 new car (FBM), so people are getting bored of the same old thing, and are moving on to new things. This would be ok normally, but since it seems like LFS development has slowed down a lot in the past year (just my opinion), it seems like there are fewer new users than we used to get in past years. Like when patch X and Y were released I remember we got a whole bunch of new users, but nowadays there's the same old group. We need new stuff in LFS, it's the only way people will come back to it!

geeman - other games have a ton more content when they are released, don't tell me Gran Turismo has only 20-something cars and 5 track environments...

Of course they would work, Windows supports multiple monitors and video cards.

Sam you should at least edit the title of the thread, add a big [NO] in there so people don't keep asking lol.

Hey Scawen since you're doing dashboard updates anyway, any chance you could change the values on the fuel gauge from 0 and 1 to E and F? And same with the temperature gauge. Thanks for the test patches so far, hadn't had much time to play around with them, but the updated dashboards look great!

Well they would need to be connected to two different monitors. Or you can take the cable out from one and put it in the other when you want to switch lol. You should try it and let us know if it works. Windows allows you to put as many video cards in it as you want, but they won't work together so you have to make them work somehow.

lol this thread is hilarious! you can't lighten the cars in LFS! but you can get better setups to make you go faster!

Wow that's ... practical! Who owns 12 monitors and has space for all of them on their desk?!
shiny_red_cobra

Yes if you have that special Eyefinity card, it supports up to 6 monitors. I dunno if LFS would support that many monitors though.
