Quote from Tomba(FIN) :No, really. I like playing rfactor in single player, time attacking. After you have installed the needed mods, it's easy to just go and drive while lfs feels so boring in single player and you have to go to multiplayer just for a little fun. rFactor feels much better anyways for me.

That's a good point, actually. With rFactor I can enjoy myself for hours offline driving countless cars on countless tracks. And when I feel I want some competition I just add a bunch of AI cars. They're really not that bad and offer good fighting, I find. Nothing like the LFS AI. LFS in singleplayer is boring as hell. But like Nightfly said, LFS was never meant to be played offline.

Patch relase anyone? Well, if not at least we know the developers are still alive

Lol, I was waiting for the first guy to start the rumourmill. It clearly says the servers are being relocated. Don't get your - and everybody elses - hopes up.

nKp is a much more difficult sim than LFS, though, so be warned. It's also mainly aimed towards openwheeler drivers at the moment, with only 1 tintop being included in the full game. The demo only lets you drive the F1600. That being said, it is a very rewarding sim if you're willing to put the time in to become good at it, and visually it looks a lot better than LFS.

As for rFactor, with the right mods and tweaks I find it feels a lot better than LFS and it's a hell of a lot more fun, but you really need to know what to look for and what to edit in the different files. The default content is shite and absolutely not worth bothering with. Also, online racing tends to be a nightmare with rFactor. With the countless mods and tracks, and then even different versions of those mods and tracks floating around, you'll be hardpressed to find a populated server to race on. You really have to look at racing communities and organized racing if you want to race your favourite mods online.

As for iRacing, you can get a 1 month trial for $5 with the Radical promo. At least then you'll know for yourself if it's good or not, instead of just going by what you see and hear from other people.

EDIT: beaten by The Moose. Nothing new there...

Quote from Rudagar :I'm loving racing the Solstice round Laguna, just won my first race at my first attempt. Can we all race with each other? I think this will link to my profile http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/Profile.do is there some sort of friends list thing?

Yes, there's a friend list. In the topright you can look up a driver by name. In the list with search results, hover your mouse over the helmet in front of the driver's name and click "Add Friend". You can also choose to "study" him. Explanations on the page

The link you provided just points to each driver's profile, eg. if I click it it brings me to my profile, if someone else clicks it it will bring them to their profile

Quote from SilverArrows77 :To then move up from D to C class, you will need to do the same things, but you will need to race in elgible series, which will mean buying more content past the basic subscription content ..eg: Skippy or Late Model etc. (this is where your wallet gets thinner and thinner)

Can't you just keep racing the Solstice and Legends as D-class to get your SR up high enough to progress to C (and B etc... after that)?

I honestly don't think he's ever going to actually buy another car. I'm not even sure he really wants to. He seems to just like posting about it.

No, 'cause that's arcade nonsense

He already said he got "it sorted" so apparently it is possible. Please don't provoke him into making any more of those idiotic posts of his

Quote from Jordan2007 :Anyone know how to change view in game?

It's supposed to be a serious rasesim. I reckon you're confined to cockpitview, as it should be. Just like nKp. None of that arcade shit that LFS has.

Quote from Tomba(FIN) :I find rfactor better as a sim than lfs, depends on the mods though.

That's considered blasphemy on this forum

I agree with you, though.

As for the OP's question, I agree that you should start them off on the wheel + pedals straight away but enable driving aids. But if they really haven't the faintest clue about racing I wonder why they would be interested in learning to simrace

Quote from ClioTrophy182 :Just please dont go down the route of iRacing and charge for the cars/tracks AND a monthly subscription... its one way or the other.

Hmm, good point. Although I don't agree entirely. I wouldn't have much problems paying for additional content. You want to dive the Scirocco? No problem, cough up £10 and it's yours forever. Want to drive on Rockinham? Only £10 and you can drive on it as much as you want for as long as you want, either offline or online. I think it's only normal that you pay for additional content; the devs have put time and effort into creating it and so they should be rewarded for it. It's the way the world works.

Monthly or yearly fees, though, I do have a problem with. I just cannot come to terms with the concept and it's the reason I'll probably never try iRacing, even though I believe it's currently a magnificent sim and I am confident it will continue to improve at a rate that is infinitely faster than that of LFS' progress.

I wasn't referring to iRacing, though, so why you included that part of my post I don't know. I was just saying that if I were a potential customer now, I don't know if I would buy an S2 license. Period. That's all I said. I didn't imply that I would rather rent iRacing. Just that by today's standards LFS is... well... not as spectacular as many people on this forum make it out to be

Quote from hazaky :If the game had lots of cars, tracks and overall much realistlic features and if i had a job, no problem.

Actually, LFS currently has the most cars available if you exclude rFactor for obvious reasons. LFS has 20 cars compared to iRacing's 17 (if their website is up to date) and nKp has the least. iRacing does have the most tracks (ie. environments, so not counting different layouts).

As things stand now, though, I'm not sure if I would pay for an S2 license if I were a new potential customer. LFS is no longer the simracing pioneer it once was, and the competition is gaining rapidly or has surpassed LFS, depending on who you choose to believe.

Quote from Sticky-Micky :FXR seams to have lost its race interior (or was that a skin mod i had installed?)(...)

(...) last time i was playing this game properly i remember the new car interiors were postponed for some reason, if they have not be released yet? (...)

The FXR race interior you speak was probably a mod, yes. Maybe you should try other cars than the FXR. The XRR, for example, has a proper GTR interior and dash now, as do the XFR and UFR. The roadcars have had interior updates as well and look pretty decent.

You know what would make it even better? If people (ie. spectators) could actually "fire paintballs" at the cars driving around I realize this isn't possible to do, though.

Only on CRT monitors. Many LCD monitors can't even go above 60hz, but even so there is absolutely no "flickering" like you get with CRT monitors.

The loss of downforce should be easy enough to notice if you watch the Forces view. Just hop on a server with a few people in downforce cars and do some testing. You should see the downforce diminishing when entering a car's slipstream.

Quote from menantoll :Xenix74,

I think the title missled you. I believe he meant the races to be held over a number of months not all in one week. How much coffee and red bull would that take?

I don't know, I kind of got the idea that it would be a one week event as well.
